Godzilla stomps onto Wii, handhelds

Infamous Japanese cautionary tale of man's quest for power will be Unleashed later this year.

Atari has unveiled plans to resurrect the mother of all monsters for a game coming to the Wii, DS, and PlayStation Portable this fall. Godzilla: Unleashed will put gamers in control of the gigantic green symbol of man's hubris, as well as a host of other famous giants, in a struggle to become crowned King of the Monsters.

The game is described as a "fighting game on a giant scale," and players will be set loose on the world's major cities to tear them apart by clawing, kicking, stomping, blasting, and throwing things. Godzilla: Unleashed will have a nonlinear storyline that will be influenced by the choices the player makes during battles.

This won't be Atari's first rumble with the Godzilla franchise. Previously the publisher released Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee and Godzilla: Save the Earth for consoles and Godzilla: Domination! for the Game Boy Advance.

I hated Godzilla:destroy all monsters melee at first, i came back to it a year later tho and really got to grips with the fighting an combo system and it IS actually quite good compared to other 4player melee games(it isn't smash bros. but hey we all know that is the best party fighter in existance). If your a fan of Godzilla you'll probably end up picking this new one up anyways, however tbh i didn't think there were many godzilla fans around anymore? It'll be more of a niche game like 50% of the awesome games that came out on GC.

I need a non-fighting genre Godzilla game and soon dammit. I want something other than fighting games. I want my big green monster in a genre I actually play, dang it.

They said some cool stuff about it on IGN, like how, thanks to the Wii's unique controll, you'll be able to move, attack, and charge special attacks all at the same time and stuff like that. It sounds really cool, but we'll have to wait and see how well it's implemented.

Hmmm... how do you make this into a good Wii game? I LOVE the Godzilla movies, but I'm not sure how this will translate... its somewhat sad that the best Godzilla game ever made was the original Godzilla game made for the Nintendo System.. Hmm.. maybe I should play that again tonight.. what do you all think?

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee on the Cube was ok, but we are just going to have to see how this new Godzilla game turns out.

Godzilla maybe cool, but what we need are giant robot cars like megas xlr taking two or three monsters at a time, now that will be awsome

Hey the Godzilla Games on the Xbox got good reviews and were a blast to play on XBL, and were also fun for one on one or 4 way battles to the death. Nothing like being able to pick up a hole sky scraper and then chuck it at your enemies in a tag team battle for some moster size artillery.

Yeah it sounds a lot like Rampage, or Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. Hopefully it'll be more like the second on. I don't know what happened to the Rampage franchise, their games were so awesome back in the day.

how about a 3d action game based on Godzilla ..kinda like mercenaries but adding in giant monsters to try to destroy the city...and you as a gamer can choose to be Godzilla or the army that tries to save the city... control ground , air , and sea vehicles for the army, with the ability to set traps, electrical, or holes to fill with poisonous gas, etc,etc,.... and different monsters with upgrades on the other side.... there could be ground missions, maybe to save people trapped throughout the city , you need to get to before Godzilla crushes them..... ... and online ..wow!!!..this could be wild.... have 16 army against 1 or 2 monsters on the other side.... oh well... i can dream.
