Duke Nukem Forever resurfaces

3D Realms releases an in-game thumbnail of upcoming shooter on a trade site's job listings.

3D Realms this week released the first new bit of Duke Nukem Forever media in what seems like forever, as its company profile on trade site Gamasutra's JobSeeker boards features a pint-size pic of Duke himself in action.

ShackNews posted a story Thursday night about 3D Realms' newest job listings with a link to the Gamasutra page that includes the new screen. That sparked speculation about the nature of the pic in the site's comments section, which prompted 3D Realms president George Broussard to chime in with a short note simply saying, "In-game shot." Broussard confirmed for GameSpot today that he did indeed post that bit in the site's comments.

"Yes, that was me and that's an in-game, real-time shot of Duke standing in a random hallway," Broussard said. "I just stuck it on a Gamasutra ad to make it stand out from the sea of company logos and maybe act as a small teaser."

As for whether or not this marks the beginning of a marketing push for Duke Nukem Forever that would see more information unveiled in the near future, Broussard said there is nothing official yet.

"We tend to just do unconventional things in terms of PR," he said. "But we're starting to wake from our slumber and think about when and how best to show the game."

PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE WOOOOOOO, COME GET SOME, ITS TIME TO KICK ASS AND CHEW BUBBLE GUM, BUT IM ALL OUTTA GUM.

I grew up on this as well, when it first came out on computer, then the next version that was best for me was duke nukem 64 the first one.

those 2 are the originals in my view.

2d was fun but 3d was best.

Duke Nukem is one of the biggest Gaming characters in the gaming universe! im 15 and i grew up playing it! most kids my age are confused with this whole situation, but i grew up playing the old side scrolling games and im glad that they are bringing old duke back, they could fail at this game and i would just be glad that 3d realms is still alive...

There is too much money on the table spent already. This game will eventually be released. If they didn't it would be the biggest mistake in gaming history.

I grew up playing Duke Nukem 3D, when it first came out. Along with other games like Doom II, Warcraft, and many other hot titles. 3Drealms has been holding back way to long on this.

Another game that took forever to come out was Team Fortress II. I just hope they don't ruin it like they did TF2. TF2 was originally suppose to be a more "serious" game, and its nothing but a kiddy action arcade shoot'em up now.

Ahh fond memories off playing the originals. "shake it baby" ha ha. is it me though but werent they the original screen shots they released when they talked about it all those years back?! if so ten or so years and no change! still should bring some much needed fun back into games!

3d realms says that all pre-orders aren't legit, and when there is a set release date, we will know about it.

As reputable as best buy is, I doubt DNF is comming in 2008 (actually if you check the 3d realms website it says Q2 2009)

Best Buy has a pre-order for a February 29, 2008 release, too good to be true? This game has been a long time in the making and after all this time it is going to have to be damn good for it to not be a disappointment.

I wonder if they rebuilt the whole game or are using their original as a template? The original E3 2001 teaser looked *awesome* and I hope they don't sacrifice gameplay for graphics.

10-15 Years in the making now (hence the reason why the trailer looks old school...........it is! lol) .....& FINALLY it resurfaces! =D ....HOPEFULLY IT'LL BE AWESOME....& come out in the next year or 2... :S

P.S. ANYONE ELSE SEE THE IRONY(OR W/E THE APPROPRIATE WORD SHOULD BE, LOL) IN THE TITLE!?

I have to admit that I'm not much of an FPS gamer, but Duke Nukem is - and always will be - a classic. I grew up playing the side-scrolling versions and enjoyed DN 3D. I'll more than likely buy it when it's released simply due to curiosity and sentimentality.

My fingers are crossed - I hope it turns out better than expected

lolz, the trailer looks so 90's, I say that because even thou it has 21st century graphics, the ideas looks like they haven't changed from the 90's and it has that feel to it. Along with the 3D Realm logo. I hope the game has good gameplay to it.

judging by the pre-doom3 graphics of the screenshots (see other article), and the fact that every person in them is smiling as if ms america was standing in front of them naked (including the guy being eviscerated by what looks like alien tentacles) I'm gonna have to say the odds of this game being any kind of good are not low, but abysmal. if this game does turn out to be good i'll be thouroughly shocked.

This game is not going to be released until we are all grand parents! I was expecting it around 97 or 98, how stupid was I?

Why don't they just cancel it already. Everybody knows now that this is a lost cause.

Ok, seriously, when this game comes out, I'm probably going to play while listening to Chinese Democracy, which will have come out months before this does. But it'll be worth I bet. Only problem is that they're trying to make it so amazingly visual that they won't be able to keep up with the graphic upgrades. Sooner or later, they're going to run into a snag and realize that you can't make a leaf look any more realistic, nor will they be able to make a body of water anymore rippled and sparkling. When will they realize that a game can only go so far. It's probably going to be a game that only those with loads of money can play because the graphics, sounds, and size will probably cost you a new computer all together. Until then, I anticipate it's release, and I believe, it will be worth it. (Hopefully it will also come out on the 360 as well)

I remember looking at the screen shot in 1999 thinking wow this looks great, cant wait to play it. Just looked at the screenshots again (8 years later) and they look rubbish. Just shows you how games have progressed. If i had enough money i would buy 3D Reals and sack them all then get the Half-Life team to make the next Duke Nukem game. 3D Realms is a great example of MASSIVE incompetence so why should they benefit from the Duke Nukem franchise anymore? the original people who created it are probably not there anymore!

jaredcrazy3232 - they were actually using Duke Nukem Forever as like a poster boy for the brand spanking new Pentium 2 processor, if you can believe that, and yes they did use the Quake II engine before switching to Unreal.

    quote from alabaster46

"I think this is crap. 3D Realms does not care about its fans or anyone who really liked the Duke Nukem franchise. If you look at their website, they have said for 5+ years about Duke Nukem: "Release Date: When Its Done." That to me shows a great deal of disrespect to all its fanbase. Then to have the "3D Realms president George Broussard to chime in with a short note simply saying, "In-game shot." " is total nonsense. They think they can do whatever they want and they think people will be there begging for their games again. Sorry 3D Realms, Forget it."

I could not say it better myself. i think that is what all gamers think about 3D Realms at the moment.

This has to be the longest delayed game in videogame history. Wasn't one of it's release dates for the original xbox launch? Maybe even before that. All I say is this game better be that many years of a wait better than it was going to be. And they need to release it for the 360 too. I wonder what happened?

I think 3DR is going to surprise us by just releasing it. They've changed engines and started from scratch at least twice now, and they obviously won't be pressured by the fans. When It's Done, either they'll just release it in a flurry of advertising around christmas, or they'll hold off another year probably.

Jesus, it's already been since 1999? LOL
Well, in a way we should be glad it's coming this late, because the later the more realistic.
Unless WWIII is in the way again... then we have to wait until it's done and we can play Duke Nukem with sticks and stones and stuff.

Interesting, alot of people, instead of just not caring like "Dnf, nah not anymore". They scurry here to make invalidate and make rude remarks of it. Why would they waste their time reading about a game and commenting upon it if they don't care about it.
