Haze release date gets fuzzy

Ubisoft confirms that Free Radical's next first-person shooter has been pushed back past March.

While one might think a new first-person shooter from a development team with TimeSplitters and the Nintendo 64 GoldenEye 007 would have high visibility, there's an appropriately impenetrable fog surrounding the development of Free Radical's Haze. Little has been heard of the Ubisoft-published shooter after it was introduced at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo with an early 2007 expected release date.

Ubisoft today gave an update on the game in its quarterly financial filing, but the news won't be welcome to those who had been eagerly anticipating Haze. The publisher announced that the shooter has slipped out of the original release window and into its next fiscal year (April 1, 2007-March 31, 2008).

Set in the not-too-distant future, the game puts players in the boots of a soldier in a well-funded privatized army run by the Mantel Corporation. Haze opens with players sent to put down a rebel faction in a South American country, but Ubisoft says "things quickly begin to look a little strange."

The're probably having trouble getting it to work on the PS3 correctly. Or maybe they're hesitating on even releasing it on the PS3 exclusively, since they won't get any money out of it. I don't blame them, why put a game out on the system with about half the global sales of the 360.

I imagine they are pushing it back because it sucks compared to the current first person shooters and they are redoing some things. It's going to be tough for them to even come close to COD4 as far as playability and intuitive controls. If it were just "bugs" they were concerned about they would have released it last year. Whenever you get a release date pushed back it means there is some quality control happening.

Man every time the release date gets near they push the game back!! Sick and tired of the delay. Though honestly if its being delayed to remove the bug that causes the unexplained freezing in recent Ubisoft games then I can understand. Assassin's Creed wasn't the only game of Ubisoft's to freeze for no reason this year.

ahh at least it not as bad as square-enix have been in the past. only 1 year delay FF12 was delayed for god knows how long i can wait for what looks to be an brilliant game.

So this will push GT5 back to the 2011-2012 timeframe

If it were not for the delays we would have no GAME news to talk about.

After a few more delays the storyline will go from being "set in the not too distant furture" to being set in the "present"

Looks great, love the trailer. Nails the feel-good company propoganda advert for Mantel. Still not sure whats going to happen, but despite this i know i wants to play it. Free Radical have never dissappointed me in the past. Bring it on!!

Timesplitters was the most fun i had with a video game for some years, looking forwards to this.

Some of you do not seem to understand...that fiscal comment was just stating that the game is under development still since it is already being filed for the next fiscal year...so we may even see the game by early summer, there is just no data, and we just know that the game is being worked on still...

...Reading up on developer interviews, the team seemed to have trouble deciding the story and the cool little gimmicks for the game design, so I think that is why we get the HUSH HUSH attitude...

Ubisoft isn't developing Ghost Recon....Red Storm is. Ubisoft is just publishing it. And calling Tom Clancy games pointless, have you played Rainbow Six Vegas? Finally, Crysis is only on PC, so that wouldn't affect console sales whatsoever.My guess is that Free Radical just doesn't want to rush it until the game is where they want it to be. The trailer for it was pretty impressive, so I'm all for them releasing it when it's finished.

i don't mined if they take there time then them rushing and making a piece of crap for us to buy and be disapointed in it. Maybe they will add multi core functionality and direct 10 capabilities. Maybe they are will to throw more oney at this seeing as it could be a great idea. who knows whats going on in there heads.
