Aussie PS3 launch lineup firms

More than 15 titles expected for PS3's March launch down under.

Australians still haven't been told exactly when in March the PlayStation 3 is set to launch, but at least local gamers are beginning to get a firm idea of exactly what games can be expected. Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has now confirmed that five of its games will be there from the PS3's first day of sale, bringing the expected number of launch games to 17.

In a statement, the company confirmed that Formula One Championship Edition, MotorStorm, Genji: Days of the Blade, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Ridge Racer 7 would all be PS3 launch titles in Australia. No further details--such as a more specific launch date for the new console--were mentioned.

The Sony games join an expanding list of expected launch titles from other publishers, including Virtua Fighter 5 from Sega and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 from Ubisoft. The current list of Australian PS3 launch games--gathered from each publisher's latest release schedules--is provided below.

Activision

Sony sure is good at ANNOUNCING things. Delivering is another matter. Remember they announced 23 titles for the U.S. launch including Motorstorm, Oblivion, Splinter Cell, and Sonic and those still aren't out yet. Instead we got 13 titles for the U.S. all but Resistance were pure cr*p. Oh, if you thought the PS3 had issues with handling different display resolutions before, wait until you see how it butchers PAL.

Who cares if a lot of the games a multiplatform. In case you didn't realise alot of people in OZ dont have a x360. That means there are plenty of games here for launch. I have a X360 and I'm still getting 5. If I didn't you could probably add another 5 titles to that. Can anyone tell me a console that launched with ten good games? Not to pick on the Wii but it will take 2 years for it to have that many good games. Dont flame me, its just my opinion. By all means, prove me wrong Nintendo, I'd love some more good games to play on my Zeldabox.

    Boring.
Where are the games that aren't multi console.
I know some are just on PS3 but thats not enough for me to cough out $1200 without a game.
The only two that look good to me (VF5 and Oblivion) are both on 360.
Where are the RPG's. Only one?

    1. Where's EA's material?

    2. About only eight of those games are any good. Not too shabby as far as launch lineups go, though.

I own a 360 but am getting a PS3 as well. Nice to see there is a variation at launch. Someone made a stupid comment saying there should be at least 40 games available at launch due to the amount of time its taken. Who the hell would buy 40 at once. Motorstorm, F1, Resistance, these are pretty impressive launch games compared to when i got my 360. er......call of duty 2...and a 3 month wait for GRAW. All console releases are the same you just have to take an unbiased view.

Not a bad lineup thanks to the additions of VF5, and a select number of Ubi Soft titles. Of course, Resistance isn't too shabby either.

If Namco manages to get T5 DR ready for the PAL PS store, you can add another great title.

4 months post launch and only 15 games? Sounds kinda weak... The Japanese/American launch (Nov. '06) should've had about 30+ games, considering the PS3 was originally scheduled to launch in March '06. And it should be going to Australia with about 40-50 games. And all you're giving me is 15? Boooh!!!

to be fair, thats a decent launch. three tom clancy games, oblivion, resistance, ridge racer and virtua fighter 5's console debut. now all i want added is heavenly sword...

Amazing, 15 whole titles 4 of which won't actually release, and the majority of the rest are already out on the 360. Congratulations on that Sony i'm sure people will fork over eight hundred bux to play World Snooker Championship 2007, your domination is virtually assured. Aussies don't forget to pick up your High-definition cables because along with fun or any outstanding SCE games its not included with the system either. Note to Sony for the future, one of the best things to have to ensure your system is bought by people is to have GAMES for it. Throwing in a five dollar HDMI cable couldn't hurt either, because the retail markup on an HDMI cable is criminal. I know i'll end up owning a PS3 eventually but if right now i can get most of the games for less money whats the point of being in a hurry.

Doolum : Oblivion,a launch title.PS3 will sell like hotcakes You make it seem as if Oblivion is anew game. it's been out on teh Xbox 360 and PC for almost a year now. Don't see how this will help the PS3 plus most of those games are no good or already been out on the xbox for a long time.

So an operating system cost $750 and people are complaining about PS3? Suddenly I feel better about the $1500 I'll be spending it March. I know DX10 will be very pretty but once I have PS3Wii360 I'll have all the games available to me I need. I would like Crysis though.

  • ObiKKa

    Posted Jan 22, 2007 6:44 am PT

vandlr "Let's see if the ps3 is gonna sell like hotcakes down under."

No, it won't sell like "hotcakes", coz it's AU $1000 compared to $600 for the Xbox 360. Plus Windows Vista will be released to the public this month, and it includes DirectX 10 functionality. Now, I know, I know, it won't exactly sell like hotcakes to the gamers at the very start, coz Crysis, and Hellgate: London will supposedly be coming out in the 2nd half of this year. I dunno if Supreme Commander will take advantage of some optional DX10 graphics. But those new graphics card like the 8800GTX & GTS are incredibly hot, and massively helps in the ability to utilise much higher levels of anti-aliasing & anisotropic filtering & other such pretty eye-candy filters at very smooth framerate. But, of course, the radical design of these new cards can only help when you use the DX 10 graphics. But if PC gaming enthusiasts likes the Vista OS early enough rather than wait for evaluating, & have the money to spend on then they'll buy it. Moreover, the Ultimate version, the top of the range of Vista OS choices, costs about $750, more or less

Im not sure what the launch games are for Europe as i have lost interest in keeping upto date but i would guess they are aboutthe same and to be honest if they are then there are only 3 games i want they are motorstorm, F1 and resistance but i can easily live without them so it looks like there is no need to get one at launch.

500 bucks for games that i already played on my 360 ?????? not a chance.......................Formula One and Motorstorm are not a sufficient reson to change my mind (specially considering that Forza Motorsport 2 is on its way to the 360) and screw Resistance..........(i play Gears of War)
    No offense to anyone

makes the 360 launch look amazing, that was kinda lackluster too . Only games worth a look there are MotorStorm and maybe Resistance, but the Playstation controller sucks with First Person Shooters. The rest either suck or are on the Xbox 360 already.

    Just get a 360 instead.
