Shivering Isles confirmed for 360

Bethesda Softworks' first full expansion to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion set to arrive on the Xbox Live Marketplace; PC version to be sold in stores.

Earlier this month, British PC mags broke the news on The Shivering Isles, Bethesda Softworks' first full expansion to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. However, being PC magazines, they didn't mention whether or not the add-on would be coming to the Xbox 360.

Nervous Xbox 360-owning Oblivion fans can rest a little easier, as Bethesda today confirmed that the game would be arriving this spring for both the PC and Xbox 360. The expansion will contain more than 30 hours of new gameplay with branching quest storylines, and the landscape itself will change according to the decisions players make during their adventures. There will also be new creatures, dungeons, and quests.

The PC edition of The Shivering Isles will only be available at retail outlets (copublished by Bethesda and Take-Two Interactive), while Xbox 360 owners will only be able to download it directly from Xbox Live Marketplace. Bethesda has yet to announce in which form the expansion would be made available to PlayStation 3 owners, if at all.

    ? can u get 1 month of xbl just 2 download shivering isles and after that month not renew ur subscription but still play the expansion?

    I agree with superspartan777... How are we, the ones without Live supposed to play the awesome expansion. I still hold out a sliver of hope for a disc release....

    It would be great if Bethesda could put Shivering Isles on Xbox Live Marketplace AND a retail disc for 360. Besides, I don't have Xbox Live or a high-end PC. So, how am I supposed to play the darn thing, huh?

    I personally can't wait for this expansion. I've finally completed all quests on the original, plus the Wizard's Tower and Thieves Den since they were free downloads on the OXM Feb. issue. I can't wait to download Kinghts of the Nine.

    Oh come on... I cant go to XBOX live market place because i moved to CHINA , I CANT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING FROM XBOX LIVE MARKET PLACE OR PLAY ON XBOX LIVE.... I'll be missing this wonderful game... I hate China...

    february issue of official Xbox mag states that the expansion will be available for retail on 360 as well as downloadable on xbox live . Makes sense since its big enough (25-30hrs) to sell as an expansion pack on the store selves. Plus they make more $$$ selling it in stores and on xbox marketplace

    Wtf? i thought shivering isles was coming to retail to and now i found out its not!!? thats retarded because you guys already have knights of the nine available via the xbox live marketplace, so why are you doing the samething with shivering isles!? You guys are making a bad decision this time.

    Chef_Bretz: I definitely agree with you. I myself has Xbox Live, so for me there's no problem. But I know alot of friends that doesn't have it and they will not be able to get the expansion. I feel sorry for all who will not be able to get it. It is so wrong. Please Bethesda, release the expansion for X360 via retail too.

    Why the hell can't they release these add-ons/expansions via retail for Xbox owners? Not everyone has the Internet connected to their Xboxs and will mis out again for this expansion/add-on. I feel sorry for 'em!

    I bet to see the new expansion to come disc via you having a membership to Xbox Magazine. They put the first to downloads on disc ( Wizards Tower, Theives New Quest). So expect to get Knights of Nine and this one someday. I hope so atleast. I don't have Live, and can't get it where I live so I pray they do. Life without Oblivion, it would be painful. I have a bad addiction, and yet my shrink thinks that it has to do with this game. So I killed her and ate her. YUMMY!, Psyke..... Anyways please put it on disc too... Good work Bethesda.

    Interesting distribution scheme...it'll be even more interesting to see if the online / retail choice has any effect on the resulting sales of the expansion (PC compared to XBOX 360).

    I hope it lasts longer and has more content than Oblivion... Oblivion was great, don't get me wrong, but it never quite felt like you could do as much in it as you could in Morrowind.

    Finally! I know its been a long time since you guys heard from me but i think this game might blow Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion out of the water. I know its just an on going of Oblivion, but i think this one might beat it down and lead it again to Best RPG of the Year!! This game has always hit the top and i am hoping to be apart of it one day. It would be cool to be a game tester for them one day or a writer.

    With games like Oblivion, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Enchanted Arms, Phantasy Star Universe, and so many others, the Xbox 360 is really gaining a reputation for being a great system if you like Role Playing Games.

    We all know how great Oblivion is, but Mass Effect looks like it will be absolutely amazing when it is released this year, and the same can be said for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey!

    Can't wait for it!!! My 48lvl char needs more adventures. i hope there will be more powerfull armor and weapon!!!! And if not better then with the same rates but with better appearence )))

    What would be the difference? You'd have to store the info on your HD almost like an MMO expansion anyways. If they sold it in retail, the disc would collect dust on your shelf (buy, install, done) vs. selling it on marketplace and saving production costs on manufacturing unnecessary discs. Get deleted from your HD? Re-download for free since XBL stores memory of purchased items. Sounds like a solid plan to me.

    And to the guy who feels ripped off because he can't cheat on the X360 version with "ZOMG! NEED MODZ!", you're why baby Jesus cries. Play the game for what it is, not for what some basement dwellers want to maniuplate it to be.

    It won't have achievements because Oblivion itself utilized the 1000 pts max allowed for games in general.

    Why would Bethesda release "user mods" on the marketplace? No console game has really yet to release a ton of user mods for players to download so I don't see that happening soon or Bethesda even allowing it. Especially the fact Bethesda couldn't profit from user creations via the marketplace without arranging profit sharing with the user that made them.

    IF you people without lIve can wait. They said that there is a Game of the year addition in the works with every download and the expansion included on the disc. Though they did say that it would still be awhile. I believe that they will make one more expansion and they'll put that on the disc as well.

    TryMe01, it's about time a publisher is able to release an expansion to a game that is still in gamer's machines. Are you still on the horse armor d/l? C'mon, it was like, what, $5 to download? Were you traumatized by this micro-transaction or just don't have anything to complain about so this is what you could remember? Some people actually enjoyed this game enough to buy everything...add-ons are just that; add-ons. Buy it or don't, anyone who enjoyed this game WILL be buying this add-on one way or another.
