Koei delays Xbox 360, PS3 games

[UPDATE] Two titles no longer in the launch window for Sony's European console release, Xbox 360 counterparts also delayed; duo also slips in US release calendar.

Koei has announced that Fatal Inertia and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War have been delayed until summer to "ensure the highest levels of quality possible." The two games were originally slated to be released in Europe in March and in the US in April.

Fatal Inertia is the debut title for the Toronto-based studio Koei Canada, which is led by Takazumi Tomoike, creator of the Dynasty Wars series, and Koei cofounder and chief advisor Yoichi Erikawa. It is a futuristic combat racing game, featuring a new physics engine and a variety of futuristic vehicles to fly. Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War is set in medieval Europe, with players assuming the role of a mercenary leader commanding troops in real time.

Both titles were first intended to be PlayStation 3 exclusives but were recently announced as coming to Microsoft's Xbox 360 as well. A spokesperson for Koei said, "The development cycles have been extended simply because of all the things the developers want to do with the new hardware."

[UPDATE] GameSpot has learned that the Xbox 360 versions of the game have also been slightly delayed. A Koei rep told GameSpot, "The 360 versions will also be pushed back to summer, as we want to release them all at the same time."

    zoiberg54 i could not agree with you more! we all should be happy with having 3 great companys making some kick a$$ games for us to play. i shore as heck dont want to just see M$ run the show (have you seen vista? other then just the eye candy know as DX10) i dont want sony running the show whats next PS4 complete with microwave? and i shore as heck dont want nintedo running the show. as fun as mario is i also dont want to play mario spin off's for the rest of my life! with all 3 in the "game" (really no pun intended) we get a great and fair balence of new content. also one company that makes a 4 star game inspires the others to step it up a notch! they all play off one anouther. but like a wise man once said i can only show you the door your the one who has to walk through. you can continue to be blined by your own hate for one anouther or you can deicide to open your eye and see the world with out borders

    Don't be so far over to one side that you can't see over the ridge to the other.... Why does eveyone want the PS3 to fail? Even if you aren't a sony fan, what good can come of it. That goes for eveyone else who hates the box, why do you want it to fail. Is everyone jealous of the other, is that it? Because I'm sure there aren't any CEOs of CFOs or any of the upper management from either Microsoft of Sony here. Enjoy what you like and hope both systems prosper. It can only mean better games, both exclusive and non.

    Not a whole lot, besides that Blu-Ray is not a Sony exclusive format like minidisc, beta and UMD. And it seems to have a few more studios behind it that Beta, Mini, and umd. www.blu-ray.com amd www.blu-raydisc.com are the links before anyone asks. Don't just blink hate.     You are obviously missing the point, and avoiding the main reason I said that. Regardless of how Sony fans want to spin-doctor news so it doesnt appear as harsh on them, the fact remains a PS3 exclusive, has now went multi-platform, and the 360 version that was already due to release AFTER the PS3 version (Summer 07), and now is due to release alongside it (And again, you cant delay something to the time it was already due to release, but if you want to say "Well, it was delayed because they say so" then I cant argue that, as you are oblivious to the fact they are spinning it, it didnt change).

    If you call it a delay... I personally have never really thought of a date pushback from "Summer 07" to "Summer 07" exactly a delay.. While the PS3 versions that were to be released before the 360 ones, are now releasing alongside them.

    There still both delayed so i really cannot see your point if any?

    A. Linux was available on the Dreamcast too... And? It can run on nearly any decently powered device, including my old 3com Ergo Audry.

    B. Link to page saying that BluRay has been cracked? All I have seen are rumors and ponderings...

    C. If the PS3 really needed all that BluRay space, wouldnt your lowly little 20/60gb drive only hold 1 or 2 games? ;p

    Actually that's kind of weird that you'd say something like that. I actually like that Sony made the Blu Ray to stop bad people from playing illegal crap. What happens when the companies who made the movies get less and less and less money?? What happens there? They're either bought out or they go out of business right? My point exactly. I guess games will never advance into the future cause all these developing game companies are just too lazy. FYI.. HI Def takes up more space. So if game developers were creating a game with Blu Ray (which is Hi Def) then they would be taking up necessary space. If the Xbox 360 is a gaming machine, why are you able to download Hi Def videos and TV shows from Xbox live service? Why are you able to store your digital music colleciton on it? Why are you able to stick in your camera and download images?? Why are you able to watch DVDs and Hi DEF DVDs? To me it sounds more like an entertainment Hub that should go in your living room. The part where you say good luck having to rebuy your collection or whatever, who said that you had to get rid of your current DVD player? Do not try to argue with me that Xbox 360 is better because I just proved that they both do the same thing. I think Sony games will be better. I'm getting the PS3, perhaps microsoft payed the news people to trash talk or w/e. But who says I wont play 360? heck my friends have 360's but i'm getting PS3. I'll play 360 at there house and they can play PS3 at my house.

    Other people who have spoken in relation to the article: I find that delays are often a good thing; it gives the devs some more time and hopefully manages to let them get some better quality coding done. Sure, it might go the way of Superman 64, but I think a little bit of optimism might do well.

    Wow, every thread that has both systems does end up in a damn console debate. Im glad many companies have not sold out to either side though some have. In any case that sucks for the delays, pushed back to summer thats a wait. Im looking forward to bladestorm: 100yr war. also keep these games in mind they seem very very promising:

    Sols bro but i only started posting yesterday cos im sick of some people being so blind to change and the possibility of sony getting it wrong (n64, 3do dre amcast). I dont want those that haven't yet made up their mind not making an informed chance as there is to much money at stake this time. Got a 360 and soon gonna buy a wii and ive gotto say that i think that this is the best choice if you cant afford to have it all. Even if you can afford it i personally can't see the pointg in ps3 unless you want a cheap blu ray player (im not that bothered happy with my dvds on my external hardrive.)

    look I WAS PRO SONY as PS and PS2 were great, but they got to cocky and arrogant and ended up making critical mistakes. they tried to push technology but took it in the WRONG DIRECTION and have ended up in 3d0 country. BLUE RAY IS NOT A GOOD GAMING MEDIA. it means that games run at a slower frame rate (fact), slower loading times (fact), and due to sony spending so much money investing in it they have had to DOWNGRADE THE REST OF THE SYSTEM. The smaller amount of memory compared to the 360 means that the enviroments produced are not gonna be as immmersive.     The proof is in the pudding the games that are out on both formats look better on 360 RUN FASTER has a BRILLIANT ONLINE NETWORK to play against friends and strangers, is SUPERIOR IN THE GRAPHICS DEPARTMENT and to make matters worse IS CHEAPER. Face it SONY ARE PLAYING CATCH UP LIKE MS LAST WAR and even ff and mgs are not going to be enough WITH 360 PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES WITH THEIR 2007 LINE UP.     You are actually right there... Considering the architecture of the system, the memory, and the fact the Cell was orig a GPU, not a CPU, and Sony decided to make it their "nextgen" CPU...

    No, considering the 360 "delay" was a play on words to help PS3 owners feel a bit better. The game was already scheduled for Summer 07, and they just delayed it to "Summer 07"... Yeah...

    I just can't wait till the PS3 starts out-performing the 360 and starts actually getting going...then what are all these early-bird sony bashers going to talk about??? I'm sure they will find something but "Hollywood_RFC_" with your Halo avatar let's be "real" you are a MS fanboy and of course there's PS3's sitting on shelves in towns in the middle of no where where no one wants to drive to get it or even knows its there...at least where I live (Washington state) there is absolutely no PS3 in site in the populated nucleus I would have to drive for 6 hours to pick up a PS3...so it's still pretty vacant system..and it was the same thing with the 360 those things sat on shelves right after X-mas as well I know this because I work at a retail store that sells electronics...the 360 was almost in this exact sammmme position with a crappy launch lineup and non-interest....took them about 8 months to get it going as well I expect it to take that for the PS3 to get some solid titles going but March looks to be a good month for the system.

    LOL Daniel665 will you stop posting that annoying link of some so called game dev with his opinion...NO ONE really knows what the cell chip and the processors will be able to do and accomplish as it is now with all this games they of course are not utilizing them to even half their potential yet the freaking PS3 has been out for less then 2 months how bout we stop these stupid fanboy wars...enjoy what's out there right now ....honestly I wouldn't buy a 360 right now because I cannot stand FPS games on a console I'll take my pc mouse and keyboard for those genre of games...the PS3 has a lot of exclusives coming out in the next 2 years that will amaze people and this debate of "OH NO THE SYSTEM IS GOING TO FAIL" will end both systems will release great titles in the future...Sony's online is still being tweaked and will get a lot better once it is smoothed out.

    We gotta remember that no one was even expecting Sony to go with their word of a Nov. release but they finally kept to their word there system is innovative and something totally new to technology so it needs some time to work its way in and it will....I forsee Blu-Ray beating out HD-DVD in the format wars..I read a interesting article the other day forget from where but a lot of big motion picture companies have already started backing Blu-Ray (Remember Sony makes pictures too) so they might have the upper hand here in the format war as well as having PS3's in households....it also stated that all the previous format wars have been heavily decided by the pornography industry which made me laugh but it is true goes back to VHS vs. Beta and the biggest porn dvd company has already stated to release blu-ray format first and then decide if they want to release a HD-DVD format of their films later. I'm just saying Sony is not dead its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo early for the console..remember the 360 was terrible paper weight at launch as well...took it a year to get going all it takes is a hot title which was GoW for them...the hot title for Sony will of course most likely be Metal Gear Solid which will be out the end of this year...so it's about the same time frame of the systems growing up...anyways i'm done just wish people would just play some games and shutup.

    Battle of the fan boys. Guys lets be realistic. First, Intel_s, the 360 is doing better than the PS3, i've read tons of reports. In Japan, where the system is most popular, there are PS3s sitting on the shelves already. That tells you right there that the PS3 isn't doing better. Second, the reason the Xbox was destroyed by the PS2 was because the PS2 got a head start. The Xbox was a better built system, Sony simply had the jump that generation. Now, Microsoft has the jump with the 360, and Sony took to long to make the "more powerful system." Again lets be realistic.

    It was only 'slightly' delayed for X360, but significantly delayed for PS3, because originally they were going to release on PS3 first, then 360 later. Now Koei wants them both releasing at the same time.

    Soon enough GS and other news sources will report that the 360 version sold better than the PS3 version, and that will be reason enough to say that the 360 versions are superior, and the japanese audience is bigger on 360 than PS3.

    Bladestorm is looking awfully close to that craptacular Ninetynine Nights game, or Dynasty Warrior XVII.

    Anyway, if they're delaying a game to "ensure the highest levels of quality possible," I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. This is, after all, a company that puts out the same game every 6 months. (Looking forward to SW2: Empires in March. lol)

    Bladestorm is probably going to be Samurai Warriors 3. i.e: Dynasty Warriors with lame characters and a bad story. I'm pretty sure that's all they make at Koei. Was anyone really planning on buying these?

    I loved it. The graphics looked very good. The game exprience was much more fun on co-op. The game was pretty awsome.

    im british and my mates have all bought 360's along with me this christmas as it has more going for it and better games coming out for it. ps3 will have a few really good titles but ff and mgs not worth buying the console. your mate made the right choice. developers are also making the same choice
