Stray Bullet's first game chambered

Shadowbane developer's new home announces first project, an MMO based on an original IP.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Jan 12, 2007 1:53 pm PT

When a developer from the then-recently shuttered Wolfpack Studios announced the formation of Stray Bullet Games last May, he said the company's first new game would not be a sequel to Wolfpack's Shadowbane, but more likely it would be an original offering.

That has finally been confirmed, as Stray Bullet Games announced that it has begun development on a new massively multiplayer online game based on an original intellectual property. No specific platforms were announced for the game.

"With this new project, Stray Bullet is committed to creating a fully realized, ongoing online conflict that combines furious action with tactical and strategic game play," the company said. "In the game to come, characters, guilds, and global factions will engage in meaningful, exciting, and fun mass combat."

Stray Bullet has said it won't release more details on the game for a while, but it did say it would not be creating its own game engine; instead, it would rely on middleware to get the job done whenever possible. For an idea of where Stray Bullet is headed with this game, check out the conceptual art pictured above.

Not making your own engine? Sounds like you only want to go half way on it to me.

"Wasn't a big fan of ShadowBane what with all the lag and connection issues but i am always happy to see new games surfacing. I hope MMo's go out of fashion soon I want more decent single player games for my PC. With all the resoucres available they could make the most baddass Xwing vs. Tie Fighter game ever."

Frak, yes! Why isn't MMORPGs turning into a fad yet? I want absolutely quickie MMOs for cheapie fees just like how you spend your average time on singleplayer & multiplayer gaming per day. However WOW is the best thing to have happened to Vivendi, as they're extremely well supported to be able to support their own developers to have lengthy development times for their "non-MMO" (emphasis) games!

Yep, agree with you on your last sentence...

I won't even read this one. This one is too boring. Shadowbane didn't get good reviews like some other MMO games, so why should I care about this one?

Yay yet another MMO.... Seriously there are getting to be more MMO's than there are people to support each one.

The art above looks nice, that's a "ghetto" beast right there. But,a little more information would help the sales of that game later as more hype will build up,as long as it turns out good.....Gears of War lived up to all its hypeAnd what do you know,it sold over 2 million and in the long run, probably 4 million.I want to see more games do that, its good stuff.

Hype level 1 - No content. "Hey where are going to do SOMETHING!". I'm so hyped I can fly out of the window.

"kilaan" - Pretty much every game has the potential to be the best game ever, such a meaningless word potential has come to be.

Shadowbane had the potential to be one of the best MMO's ever. But due to bugs/balance issues it crashed hard.

I just hope the game brings something new to the table. MMOs are notoriously similar to each other. I can't see how these developers can expect to get new subscribers if they can't make a game that isn't exactly like WOW or every other MMO.

I don't play any and probably won't play another MMO but it seems like a lot of studios are trying to mix it up a bit. The new Conan, Age of Hyboria seems to have a large degree of innovation, for instance. I hope more companies try to be more inventive with the MMO genre.

Sweet, its Sci-Fi too judging from the concept.

Kinda looks like a twisted world of planet of the apes. Definitely going to keep tabs on this one.
