Burning Crusade mini-site opens

Blizzard launches interactive Web site for World of Warcraft expansion with game information, screenshots, movies, minigames galore.

World of Warcraft fans (all 8 million of them) are chomping at the bit to start exploring the new Burning Crusade expansion pack. The add-on may not be out until January 16, but Blizzard Entertainment is giving gamers a chance to tour the new realm now.

The developer announced today that it has launched a Flash-enabled Burning Crusade mini-site. Visitors will be treated to videos, screenshots, and information on the game.

The site also features some interactive minigames, such as a WOW-themed version of the card game Memory and a click-and-drag game of archery. Gamers who complete the games under certain conditions will unlock other portions of the site and earn "secret rewards."

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade is rated T for Teen and will retail for $39.99. For more on the game, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

I just hope this is a very good expansion, or there will be some head turning on why it took so long to release one for this game with 8 million subscribers. I mean you can easily justify bringing on a whole new team of designers with the kinds of profit this game is making for Blizzard, even after the publisher gets their greedy paws in to the revenue.

Now that's an innovative idea. Has somebody else done that before?

I highly doubt it.. 8 million people pay $15 a month for this..must be good huh? and please dont get me going about the 360's big 512 mb of system ram and 20 gig hard drive-LOL"

"This Pc game alone will will be sold out nation wide what console game can claim that?"

-Well... lets see. Theres guitar hero, Halo, Halo 2, Final fantasy (I dont care if its a port. Its still a console game mr 5-year-old.), guitar hero 2... etc. so many.

"None of the console games have more than 10 hrs reply value to them"

    - Ah god man. You really want me to type out all th...

Fine, ill do as many as i can.

Bully, GTA, Guitar hero, Amplitude (I've played this for more than 3 months in total), Guitar hero 2, halo 2, gitaroo-man, ........almost every console game is getting replay value thorugh online mode, therefor, pretty much any game has fairly good replay value.

"if you had to pay $15 bucks a month to play stupid Halo would you? I highly doubt it.. 8 million people pay $15 a month for this..must be good huh?"

Yes, warcraft is a good game.... an amazing game infact. but thats no reason to go dissing console games... ****

As for the money. People pay for XBox live... ummm... yeah... what do you think that is?

"and please dont get me going about the 360's big 512 mb of system ram and 20 gig hard drive-LOL"

K, first of all, i totaly agree with you there... the 360 sucks balls. worst console to ever hit the market.

However, the ps3 has 60GB of HDD. I dont really know the RAM, cause i dont really care. All i carea bout are that the games are fun, and most have some innovation rather than just blowing people up in a first-person view.

(BTW, if u wanna make it so we cant tell that your some 11-12 year old kid, try not using the word "N00b", or starting sentences off with the word "And".

    G'Day.

digitalheadbutt, I agree that what Okassar said is not true but I don't see anything that PC can do better other than graphics (and sound but who really cares). The fact of the matter is that PC's are not dedicated gaming machine's, console's are. If you don't like shooters and MMORPG's then there is really NOTHING for you to play on the PC. Another thing is there is way too much that goes on with PC gaming, with console games if you have a 360 game it will work in your 360 but with PC games, you won't always be able to play games, which is lame. You end up spending more than the people who buy consoles in the long run. Also for a lot of people, even one's with good PC's they run like crap, so really there a lot of problems with the PC as a gaming format. Honestly I would rather watch a DVD on my standalone DVD player than my PC (I'm making an analogy) because not only is it quicker and easier, the whole experience is better because I'm using a device that is tailored for watching DVD's that's it's main (and almost only) purpose, I don't have to go and buy anything extra to get the same experience. I feel the same way about videogames, I would rather relax and play a game with a controller (which I don't care what people say are much better and easier to use than a device that's made FOR TYPING) and a much larger TV, instead of hunched over a monitor and getting pissed when the game starts to get all glitchy and slow down (my experience with some PC games). That being said I do think WoW is actually a good game (I've played it and I'm glad I got bored soon and stopped, it's not my thing but I know I'd be addicted regardless of that fact, if I kept playing), and I'm not saying that PC games suck or anything, but the next-gen of consoles has shown much more good things to me than the PC, hell the 360 and PS3 may as well be PC's (and when Linux comes out for the latter, it pretty much will be). PC's are old news, people want smaller portable things with less cords and junk to plug in, and they want things all condensed into one item that you can take places.

okassar is just misinformed...well, at least that's as nice as I can put it, regardless of the fact that he has ignored the rts category or sims or I dunno all mmorpgs that my friends is an ignorant person. Oh, I love consoles, but please don't compare graphics and microprocessor power, its not even funny.

    Posted Jan 12, 2007 2:39 pm GMT

only 40 dollars? thats a good price tag. I think they could have even put it at 60$s and it would still sell as well

The Xbox 360 and the PC are both great platforms. Theres no need to be myopic and choose one over the other or engage in childish flame wars. That said, I am simply not interested in The Burning Crusade. Blizzard has become to big for its own good and the product will now suffer. This is why many integral employees have left to form their own studio. Becuase Blizzard is too big, theres too much money at stake now and its going to be run like EA or SOE.

    To Okassar:

I can understand not liking WoW but to make a broad statement like "The PC has nothing good to offer..." is ignorant. The 360 is a badass platform but there are some experiences that even Next Gen Consoles don't deliver; one day they will and when they do I will be playing them on my PC and my 360 or PS3. Until I can get a game experience like Company of Heroes or Medival II: Total War i will continue my patronage for the PC. Besides I like Oblivion better on the PC and no console can run Crysis yet. I am sure Crytek will get around to making a less featured version for consoles but I like building up a new machine that runs all the new features. The big strength and the big weakness of the PC platform is the customizabilty. It's fun to trick out a new system, especially if you have deep pockets.

To all World of Warcraft lovers-The freakin' game is not going to get a new coat!Get a 360,pick up Oblivion,Final Fantasy 11,Saint's Row,Dead Rising,Rainbow Six Vegas, and Gears of War.Then wait for Halo 3 ,Assassin's Creed,Blue dragon, and other good games. The PC has nothing good to offer, even though WoW owned when it first came out.But we are in a new-gen now and it's at the same level,if you seriously want to stick to the PC,get the new Guild Wars or something.

Blizzard ripped off Bowman... which I'm ok with, game companies rip off others all the time. But they also made it suck! Wow.. Bowman is so much more well done then that game... the screen doesn't scroll at all, the target is RIGHT in front of you... and you can't shoot unless you click on your arrow tip, which often causes my mouse cursor to go outside the game window when trying to shoot.

Come on now, a game company really should do better then this. I expect this from some company like Pepsi or Burger King... but you, Blizzard??
