Dead Rising hits milestone, exec hints at sequel(s)
Capcom ships 1 million copies of its zombie-slaying action game worldwide; company exec says series can be used "for years to come."
Like the undead meatbags that mysteriously take over the town of Willamette in Capcom's action-oriented survival horror game, Dead Rising has swarmed stores across the globe. Capcom today revealed that it shipped more than 1 million copies of the game worldwide through 2006.
The Xbox 360-exclusive title, which won GameSpot's Best Action Adventure Game award for 2006, was released in August in North America and took just two weeks to ship 500,000 units. In breaking 1 million copies shipped, Dead Rising became Capcom's 41st game to eclipse the 1 million mark, claims the company.
The success of the game may be enough for Capcom to roll out a sequel or two. Mark Beaumont, executive vice president of Capcom, hinted that the dead may rise again. "Bringing out Dead Rising has allowed us to establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come," he told GamesIndustry.biz.
When asked about the possibility of a sequel, representatives from Capcom told GameSpot, "We have not made any announcements on another title."
