Delay for US Wii Play

Nintendo pushes minigame pack back to mid-February from previous date of mid-January.

With its motion-sensing technology, the Wii Remote is a perfect match for titles packed with minigames. Wii Sports, Rayman Raving Rabbids, and Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz are already out for the Wii, and WarioWare Smooth Moves is due out in a few weeks.

Another collection of minigames, Wii Play, is apparently giving itself a little breathing room from the crowded genre. On the Nintendo press site, Wii Play is listed as releasing on February 12, 2007. The game was previously listed as releasing on January 15--the same day WarioWare hits shelves.

Though the game is already available in Japan and Europe, Nintendo hasn't given any reason for pushing the game back in North America. One theory deals with the Wii Remote that is bundled with it. Hardware shortages aren't just limited to the Wii console; they're also happening for accessories such as extra Wii Remotes.

Good idea on Nintendo's part, especially packaging this game with a Wii-mote. For an extra 10 bucks get a bunch of mini games, and since there's no damn Wii-Motes in town, i'm already a sucker for it.

Speaking of shortages, I think Nintendo is missing out on a lot of potential revenue. Despite all their talk before November 19th, the Wii is no easier to find than the PS3 this season. (In fact, the PS3 is easier to find right now. I found three stores in my area with them last night.)

It's bad enough that there are three (four if you need a GameCube controller) different types of controllers that have to be purchased separately to play the entire range of games available on the Wii, but then to not have them on the shelves is almost criminal. The system is marketed as being good for family and friends to play together, but that's not possible if you can't find the controllers.

Microsoft and Sony might not have done their console launches any better, but at least you could find the controllers when you wanted one.

PS -- And the DS selling out this season? Who saw that coming?

"Free Controller"? More like "buy a controller, get a game free". Or at a low extra cost .

Regarding people (like myself) holding out on getting a 4th controller until this game comes out, and those who say not to wait - it seems to me that we're going to be waiting that long for a controller as it is. Those things are hard to acquire!

Who wants to bet the game comes out in the US for 19.99 without the controller? Fellow North Americans, listen to our friends, they say it's a crap game, and I believe em. Just go buy a Wiimote at Bestbuy. Somehow this is like waiting to buy a PC until the newest version of MS Hearts comes out with it. Bah! Move on.

I'm really just more excited about getting the extra controller than actually getting the game. But the good thing is that one of my friends has 2 controller, another has one, and I have one, meaning that we can play 4 player games.

I wanted Wii Play, guess I'll have to wait although Wario Ware is coming. And this shortage of Wii remotes is really annoying here in Puerto Rico were I live, I've went to a few stores and they are sold out of wii remotes and I want to play MULTY.

Wii sports was bundled with the console in Europe, Wii play is ok, $4 extra for the game compared to the price of just a controller
