Wii POP revealed as Rival Swords

Prince of Persia bounds onto Wii in rehash of 2005's The Two Thrones; game uses Wii Remote and Nunchuk attachment.

Ubisoft has made no secret of its adoration for the Wii. The publisher came out strong for the console's launch, with more than half a dozen games already released for the console.

It was no surprise, then, that Ubisoft revealed it was bringing one of its most popular franchises to the Nintendo's new console. Back in August, the publisher confirmed that a Prince of Persia title was headed to the Wii, but specific details of the game were left in the darkness.

Today, Ubisoft shed light on the game and announced that Prince of Persia Rival Swords is headed to the Wii in March 2007. Gamers may recognize the title as the same as the next Prince of Persia installment on the PlayStation Portable, also due in March 2007. Like the handheld version, the Wii game will be based on 2005's Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.

In the game, the acrobatic Prince is besieged by a bit of multiple personality disorder, as the Sands of Time have produced the spirit of the Dark Prince, who slowly overtakes him. Nothing has been revealed about the Wii version other than that it will incorporate the Wii Remote and Nunchuk attachment.

For more information on what to expect from the game, read GameSpot's review of Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones or check out previous coverage of the PSP version of Rival Swords.

o well. atleast they make money, which gives them more funds to make better games in the future.

i think ubisoft just rushed its launch stuff to get a piece of the launch sales pie. if you look at red steel i think that game had tons of gameplay potential (no story potential) but was rushed to the printers to make launch. i think you give ubisoft a year or two to make this game and it will be a great game as for the prince of persia being a trilogy. get real if a franchise makes money thier not going to stop at three games. look at halo supposed to be a trilogy has halo wars. metriod a series that technically ended at metroid fusion added events between titles theres ways around strory caps they just have to be creative and most importantly keep giving the great game play

  • diobolical22

    Posted Dec 23, 2006 3:54 am PT

they can't make a new title for pop because the trilogy is finished he has destroyed the sands of time so what will we do with no sands the sands of time was made the game excellent in the first place along with the fighting the acrobatics ext ext but seriosly they can only make remakes cause there are no more sands!!!! kailena is rested no more sands!!!!Unless the make a game where you play all 3 in one but i bet thats not going on wii most porberlly on the ps3 and xbox360

Well I never played Two Thrones unfortunately, so I guess I'm lucky to get the chance when I'll get my Wii (eventually). Still, what the hell Ubisoft? You couldn't make a new POP for the Wii from the ground up? Lame.

ObiKKA; 1_ if what you said about a company making a new motion controller for all 3 consoles then nintendo will either sue, or be proud because lets face it if it wasn't for the Big "N" we would have gotten the same games with better graphics for years until we got bored from games.
2_The Wii has tecnicall capabilities completly diffrent from the others thats but because they are only twice the power of the Gc they find the cheapest and fastest way to make games is by imitating those of the xbox's. But people should take a good look at the xbox 360's launsh titles an dthe fact they were either ports or had bad graphics. because the PS3 has tecnicall acheivements that are pretty close to the xbox 360 launsh titles loked pretty sweat. Plus The Wii ha only begon. 360 owners had to wait a full year till they got games that pushed the 360's hardware. So in a year the Wii willhave much better games and Graphics. Oh and I hope that developpers stop making ports on the Wii and start using theire imagination ( i guess they got so used to only making the same games with better graphics that theire doeing the same with the Wii only with better controls and the same raphics) and not make the same mistack they did with the GC and used its full potential when it was dead.

Wow, even if it is a remake, playing wow with the wii-mote sounds fun. If they can iron-out the bad parts that pop t2t had, and make the control easy enough, then I`ll definitely buy it when I have a Wii.

Graphics haven't been an importance really. Why u think the PS2 was so popular over the Game Cube and Xbox? (and for those who forgot , the PS2 was graphically inferior to the GC and XBOX) The PS2 had a better line of games to choose from and they were fun to play. That shows that graphics are not really that important. Sure its nice if a company can make a new system with powerful graphics to make the games visually better, but the question is will they have a strong line up of games to make the console sell? I hear all u guy talk about Assasins Creed this and that that it would not make it to the Wii cuz its a next gen video game. Says who? says you? thats real funny.

Nintendo games are ALL for kids? since when has nintendo made games only for kids? Even adults like to play certain games that don't really need to be violent or gory. Thats just all talk i see from u guys.

I don't see any of talk about why Ninja Gaiden Sigma (comin out for the PS3) is just a repeat of Ninja Gaiden Black (which was the sopposebly "complete" version of the game?

Anyway as for Ubisoft makin this game based on the two thrones. Ok, a new Prince Of Persia would be better, but for the ones who haven't played this game have a good opportunity to do so when it comes out for the Wii. stop cryin (to all u cry babies) and wait till Ubisoft make a good decision to make original titles later. The Wii is just gettin started.

    ObiKKa

Yeah I think people underestimate graphics. Everyone likes to act like graphics dont matter. "I only care about gameplay cos I'm sooooo hardcore."

Well the whole time you're playing a game you're looking at it so it's only right you should like what you see. If Wii graphics look dated now, how bad are they going to look in 3 years? In 3 years when Xbox and PS3 are really pushing their limits Wii is going to look seriously bad by comparison. Once the novelty of waving an invisble tennis racquet wears off Wii will only have its games to rely on and no offence to anyone who likes it, their game line up is less than impressive.

If you still think graphics dont matter, asks yourself why everyone wants Asassins Creed so much when we know so little about it other than the fact it looks gorgeous. Hell, the same could be said for Paris Hilton.

"next up is an ASSASSIN' S CREED port !!!!!!! yeah baby!!!!!!!!!"

No, mate, forget it. Assassin's Creed features an extensive range of AI entities that the Wii's CPU just won't be able to do. It is essentially a nest-gen game. And, look, it's coming out for the 3 platforms (PC, Xbox 360 & PS3), which is just enuogh to make loads of money for Ubisoft.

  • ObiKKa

    Posted Dec 18, 2006 9:31 pm PT

If anything, it will likely include inferior & uglier graphics.

Bathyj, yeah, I agree with you. Though, there are some upcoming exclusive adventure games for the Wii that could be good.

No matter what the controls, the Wii is the next Gamecube. Just ignore the Nintendo fangirls & "I-can't-live-without-a-Wii-or-Jap-products" Japanese fanboys, especially on the sales charts in Japan - just look at the worldwide sales without the Japan's sales, as well as the Wii's own merits compared to its competitors. You'll really see that the Xbox 360 (and the Windows Vista OS) are simply too good as gaming platforms that they're unbeatable. The PS3 will have some interesting exclusive games, but the Xbox 360 is really where the gaming's at - fast-paced & no fluff (long-winded CGI, look we have the animated movies for that! Just look at the new ones out now in the cinemas! Rock on Pixar!), pure gameplay/fun factor & good feeling, online gaming, strong games like Assassin's Creed & Bioshock, & even the Japanese RPGs to make Sony worry, lol! Then, there are the FPS & RTS games for the PC!

The competitors have now noticed the motion-sensor controllers of the Wii with its weak graphics to date by now, & they'll be copying it, no doubt! Apparently, one company called GameTrak or something is developing a motion-sensor controller that's designed to suit ALL three next-gen consoles (& perhaps the PC, as well), so that the developers wouldn't have to worry about integrating motion-sensor controls for all consoles as an option if they like. That device will be released next year. Even Microsoft is also developing their own simplified form of controller with motion-sensor feature, that certain game like the racing games can be controlled by!

In the near future, developers will be making more games for the Xbox 360 & PS3, & gradually ignoring the Wii because its graphics is only slightly overpowered over the Xbox 1, & is seriously dated for the next 5/6 years!

Additionally, the prices of the Virtual Consoles from 5 different old systems are seriously overpriced for such tiny game downloads. The price range for the PS1 game downloads from the PS3's online system is far better. Get the ROM images from the Internet for free, if you like, & play them on the PC via emulators, or on the TV with the cool GP2X handheld (www.gp2x.co.uk, or .com.au) & the TV out cable, & that can emulate far more systems than the Wii's VC can.

P.S. I'll buy a Wii, so save your time accusing me of fanboyism. Even those who don't buy it probably shouldn't be accused of being anti-Wii people!

this is a good step for Ubisoft because they're covering their behinds. it is always much easier and cheaper to port a title over to the Wii and adapt its control to its games. then once the Big N announces how many millions of Wii's they sold (which will be a ton of millions) Ubisoft will easilly ramp up production on new original titles and at the same time be really familiar with Wii hardware. next up is an ASSASSIN' S CREED port !!!!!!! yeah baby!!!!!!!!!
