Dozens added to 360 backward-compatibility list

Microsoft today released an updated backward-compatibility list for the Xbox 360 featuring 37 more Xbox games that are now playable on the company's newest system. While all of the anticipated titles mentioned in a version of the list that leaked out earlier this week were indeed in the final update, there were also a couple of additions.

Among the more notable games on the list released today are Psychonauts, Shenmue II, Dead or Alive Ultimate, Indigo Prophecy, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Scarface, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and Ultimate Spider-Man. However, there were also a few new faces in Soul Calibur II (but only for North American 360 owners) and Conker: Live and Reloaded.

Upon finding out that Psychonauts was included in the update, the game's lead designer Tim Schafer said, "It looks official! Yeee haw!" And added: "I want to thank all the fans who mailed Microsoft on our account! It wouldn't have happened without them!"

    Sagacious_Tien I'm playing Psychonauts now - and while it is difficult (many of the powers are meant to be mapped to the black and white buttons, but they aren't on 360 controller) I'm really enjoying it. Bodes well for future platformers on 360

    Why did it take so long to get Psychonauts backwards compatible??!? That's just further proof that the gaming industry doesn't appreciate great innovative games.

    Come on MS lets see Street Fighter,Guilty Gear & Capcom vs Snk franchises & all SNK games on the backwards list.......please...otherwise I have to purchase a PS2 to get these games again.

    im really happy about the update iv been wanting to play my old conker game for a while although it does kinda suck that the magority of comments here are complaints from nerds oh well i guess microsoft cant please everybody

    Conker was the best n64 game on earth! Too bad they sort of broke it on the xbox version. Well the gameplay was the same but they kind of killed their unique multiplayer experience I loved in conkers bfd.

    The two games im looking for that they have yet to add is Mercenaries and Chronicles of Ridick: Escape from Butcher bay. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO ADD THOSE TITLES RRHHHAAAAA!!!!!

    ALSO, WHERE IS SPIDERMAN 2: THE MOVIE GAME!?!?!?!
    Ultimate Spiderman sucks compared to this game.

    I truly wonder what determines whether or not a game is made backward-compatible. Psychonauts is cool, I think i'll buy one now. A couple of the other games seem reasonable too, but most of them... What gives? There are soooo many gems back there. Though I must agree, Riddick, Stranger's Wrath, and BGandE are certainly near the top. Right now my retro-collection is divided into "Shelf Space" and "Storage" depending on its backward compatibility. With their ever-increasing success in the U.S. market, Microsoft should certainly attempt to include the xbox's entire back-log of games. Imagine if it was standard for a console to support all of its forerunner's games. That concept is what keeps tempting me to buy a Wii. The new games don't really interest me as much as the potential nostalgia of their Virtual Console service. I want my Kid Icarus, Metroid, and Legend of Zelda. 10, 15 years from now, I want to get an itch to play Halo and be able to scratch it with my Xbox 1080.

    I'm possitively giddy with glee that Buffy and Indigo Prophecy finally made the cut, but agree with everyone who pointed out that Beyond Good and Evil, Riddick and Stranger's Wrath need to be on there as well. And The Suffering: The Ties That Bind, and all the Silent Hill games, and both the Hunter: The Reckoning games, etc, etc, etc. The point is, until they get 100% backwards compatible, there are always going to be people who are annoyed, and even after that people will say they should have done it sooner. For the moment, however, they've given me back Buffy and Indigo Prophecy, and I'm happy with that. For the moment...

    All we need now are the Brothers in Arms games, X-Men Legends games, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Chronicles of Riddick, and Unreal Championship 2, then the X360 will become the best console on the market, especially with newer titles like Gears of War, Lost Planet, Viva Pinata, Assassin's Creed, and Halo 3 either on the 360 right now or coming soon.

    Sweet! Psychonauts and Shenmue II are added! Awesome! But I don't think I would want to play old games on the XB360 anyway because of not being able to use my old games saves and I wouldn't want to start over on those titles.
