Mercury Meltdown gushing onto Wiis

Physics-happy puzzler sliding onto Nintendo's new console in spring 2007; game will take advantage of Wii's tilt-sensitive controller.

One series that appears to be a perfect match for the Wii's tilt-sensitive controller is the Mercury Meltdown franchise from Ignition Entertainment. However, to date, the only platforms the franchise has made it to are the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation Portable.

That's all set to change now, as Ignition has announced plans to release Mercury Meltdown Revolution for the Wii. The game is currently in development at Ignition Banbury in the UK and is slated for a spring 2007 release.

Like other Mercury Meltdown games, Revolution tasks players to control a blob of liquid mercury through mazes stocked with traps, moving platforms, and other obstacles. The game will feature more than 150 levels, full incorporation of the Wii Remote's tilt sensor, and "state-of-the-art blob physics."

Mercury Meltdown Revolution has not yet been rated or priced.

Odd... Yet should invoke the Wii's full motion sensing capacity. I would probably rent it before actually buying...

Cool... I never played the PSP or PS2 ones, I don't have the time or the cash... too many games during the holidays!

This might make a great summer game-drought killer.

I want this. I like Monkey Ball, and I've always wanted to play Mercury, but PSP doesn't have enough extra titles to warrant my money, so I never got to play it.

But now, this will do it. Yay!

Super Monkey Ball it may indeed be, but the theme and feel of the game are a good deal more pleasing to me than Sega's. If all goes well, the Wii controller should provide some excellent tilting accuracy.

    "@Willy105
Revolution? Looks like somebody didn't get the "Wii" name memo yet."

My guess is that Nintndo expect people to use "Revolution" as a suffix like people used "64" as a suffix and "Super" as a prefix in the past.

Can't really imagine "Mercuary Meltdown Wii" working but "Mercuary Meltdown Revolution" sounds fine.

Hmm... this looks like Super Monkey Ball without the monkeys -- which means it's like Super Monkey Ball but not good. Nonetheless, I thought Morrowind looked like garbage till I played through it for a while so I'll have to see how this turns out.

Actually, it'll make more sense on PS3 as a download.

The game itself is not that big, and it'll make more sense on a PS3 Sixaxis controller, because it's easier to balance than the Wiimote."

    How so?

  • silverstar1982

Yep. I think this would make for a very good DLC style game. You really don't need anything more than N64-level graphics, if that much, plus use of the wiimote(or yes, even the SixaxiS for the PS3), and this would make for far too much of a niche title to be worth pressing and trying to sell it in stores.
