Age of Conan dawning on 360

Funcom to bring sword-and-sorcery PC MMORPG to Microsoft's console next year.

The world of Conan the Cimmerian, the fantasy barbarian of legend created by Robert E. Howard, portrayed in films by Arnold Schwarzenegger and re-created in several games, is returning to consoles. Funcom today announced that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has been approved for the Xbox 360 by Microsoft.

While this is good news for 360 fans who yearn to crush their enemies, see them driven before them, and hear the lamentations of their women, it isn't especially surprising. In April, rumors first began circulating that the developers had been working on a version of the game for Microsoft's next-gen console. Those rumors were further fueled in July, when Funcom announced a publishing deal for the PC version of the game with Eidos that also noted that the companies wanted to bring the game to the console market.

No release date was named for the Xbox 360 edition of the game, but a Funcom representative said it will definitely be after the PC version launches (currently expected between March and May of next year). And while the representative said Funcom has been pleased with its partnership with Eidos so far, the publisher has not been signed yet to handle Age of Conan for the Xbox 360. Funcom said it would have more information about the game, including "potential console-specific features," at a later date.

Combining action RPG elements with the MMORPG genre, Age of Conan was named GameSpot's Best Massively Multiplayer Game of E3 2006, beating out competition including EA Mythic's Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade. Is there a monthly fee or is Xbox Live Gold and the increased price of the game enough to satisfy their greed? JahRoc876

"If you look the trailer closely, there is a Games for Windows logo. Microsoft is backing this game in some way. Do you think they would let the game slip to ps3? Btw, I don't mind if the game came to PS3 or whatever. But, your comment is very inaccurate."

As a point of clarification the "Games for Windows" endorsement just means that the game meets certain specifications/guidlines that were created by Microsoft to encourage PC gaming and establish industry standards. All PC games will most likely begin to have this endorsement, but it does not indicate involvement from MS in development or publishing. I'm surprised GS hasn't done an article on this yet.

... Anyone actually serious about playing Conan? Personally, I would have liked it if they would just fix their current MMO before making a new one... Could have snatched that updated engine for Anarchy Online instead - would have made better use of it IMO. At least that game COULD compete... I mean... What chance does conan have against Warhammer or WoW? Not that AO is anywhere neer those games but [insert witty reason here ]. At least it feels like it will boil down to those two games (when it comes to player population). Hmm... Meh. Multiplatform... Think I'll pass for now, and I'll save my excitement for later.

Could be interesting. Tough luck not having to pay a subscription fee though, it would be nice if they made it cheaper for xbox360 users however. Some sort of partnership deal between the two companies?

Let's hope there are no subscription prices since we already have to pay for XBL while Sony and Nintendo users (both inferior) don't have to pay any service fees.

This news doesn't come as a surprise, they were even demoing the game at E3 with emphasis on using a 360 controller. This is pretty exciting nonetheless, I'll probably be playing it on PC until the 360 version is out. IMO this is gonna be the next biggest MMO next to WoW.
