PS games for PSP now on PS3

Sony updates its new console's PlayStation Store with five older games that work on the company's handheld system.

Sony took its first steps into the world of retro gaming today when it updated its PlayStation 3 online storefront with downloadable versions of five original PlayStation games that can be enjoyed on the PlayStation Portable.

The first slate of PS games to arrive on the system include a sampling of Sony-published PS hits, as well as one title from third-party publisher Namco. The currently available titles are Sony's Crash Bandicoot, Cool Boarders, Syphon Filter, and Hot Shots Golf 2, as well as Namco's Tekken 2. Each game costs $5.99 and carries a disclaimer that multiplayer functions in the games won't work because the games have not been altered to support the portable system's Wi-Fi functionality.

To play the games, customers will need to first download the games to their PS3s from the PlayStation Store, then transfer them via a USB cable to a PSP with a memory card that contains enough free space. The games range in size from 157MB (Hot Shots Golf 2) to 535MB (Tekken 2). Once downloaded, each game can be copied for use on up to five different PSP systems before it locks itself.

Ctg867's got it right. Wii may be a cool system and all but the PlayStation consoles always have and always will be better. Yes, DOOM_SONYMAN, Crash is the best.

I just re-read my review for the game and I was a total amateur back then. My opinion of Crash's debut has gotten even higher since then, as I enjoy the environment of the game (particularly the following levels: Pinstripe, Lights Out, Fumbling in the Dark, Nitrus Brio, the Lab, the Great Hall, and Dr. Neo Cortex). I also like the music of those 7 levels better then the rest of the astonishing soundtrack.

Top it all off with variety, a classic story with a new twist, and great gameplay and you've got a marvelous game.

Give it a rest with the Sony hate. Really. I don't see the Wii with more then one game to play, unlike the PS3 that has at handful as of now. I don't see the Wii with VC games that bring extra content or anything, so don't knock Sony for lacking with the PSone games. I don't see any Wii/DS connectivity, so don't complain when Sony is actually trying to do something with it's handheld and it's console. Don't knock Sony when Nintendo is on the other side of the road making a mess of itself

Another PS3 only plug? This would be such an awesome idea if you could just get the games online or buy them at a store somewhere.

I think the PS3 has suprisingly been a big disappointment . I hope this does not ruin their reputation in the industry. If fans are truly going to spend $700 for this system their needs to be some sort of free download service to make up for the LACK of games they seemed to have provided at the initial release. And why not ? Since the playstation one had some of the most popular RPG games. Sony is not offering enough incentives for fans to really cough up and arm and a leg for their new system, they should really consider what fans really want in the near future, and that is probably an expansive library of games at the same time the option of playing the memorable classics!

    "Broadband internet: 50$ a month
    2Gig mem stick: 80$
    PSP 250$
    PS3 600$
    PS1 game online 5$
Pointing at nintendo and saying STUFF IT UP YOUR ARSE

    and acutally mean it

    Priceless! "

Or you could say highway ripoff, and now I am stuck with the two most lacking systems on the market, and the most likely to be future dreamcasts/game gear. But hey, your call. =P

Dark_Alex has released his new custom firmware. this means that you can play just about ANY ps1 game for FREE!! (if you have it)

not to mention there's full gba emulation through gpsp (no lag at all)

Yeh, because that's really gonna kill off the DS isn't it!?
Another wise move by Sony. Making retro PS games available, but only via PS3!? Do they really think that this is going to help sales of the PS3? Like people are going to go out and spend $600 just so they can play a 10 year old game!!

WHAT!!!!! I GOT TO PAY 599USD THEN MOVE THE DECIMAL POINT TO THE LEFT TWICE!!!!!
I might as well just buy a flip top and a battery for my psx and play it like that.
I got dark ressurection but I would love playing Star Ocean on the go.
They should have download stations where you have to buy a point card and put money on it.
    Sony's demo downloads suck also.

And what of us who have owned a PSP since April 2005 but have no plans for buying a PS3? I guess it leaves only one choice.......|-|0m3br3w.

Put simply, I'm not going to pay 600 dollars to have the middleman hardware with which to transfer a game ISO to my PSP. That's ridiculous.

If I could download them via the Sony Entertainment site to my PC then go USB transfer to the PSP - Sure, fair game and I'd be all over it. Thunder Force 5, R-Type Delta, Ray Crisis and more... WHAT?! That's what I'm talking about!

When will Sony realize that making bad decisions like Sega will hurt them?

So for just $250 (original price of PSP), and $600 for a PS3, and an hour of twiddling with cables, inputting credit card info, downloading and transferring, we can play PS1 games again?!?

    Awesome!

I wonder if Sony will buy me dinner first, and hold me afterwards.
