Police make arrests in PS3 theft

Authorities reportedly believe California GameStop heist was actually an inside job; two store employees arrested.

Earlier this month, the PlayStation 3 launch was accompanied by a handful of reported robberies, with an Elk Grove, California, GameStop reportedly having four PS3 systems and several Xbox 360 systems stolen by a pair of armed men.

Now The Sacremento Bee, which originally reported the story, is saying that police believe that two of the store's employees were in on the robbery. Two 19-year-olds who were employed by the store were arrested last week on charges of suspected embezzlement, burglary, and conspiracy, according to the paper. One of them has also been charged with filing a false police report.

Police have not yet recovered the stolen systems, and it's unclear whether or not others were involved in the heist. As for what tipped police off to the scheme, one officer was quoted as saying, "Our detectives were able to gather information that wasn't consistent with a robbery...They felt there was more to the investigation than meets the eye."

That's my hometown. I used to shop at that store. Seeing the 'quality' employees they hired there, I'm not really surprised.

Sam_Lowery - Obviously the 'stick up guys' were fake and the police aren't telling us how they know so they can continue their investigation and make more arrests/recover the goods. This isn't Aruba, the cops here actually know what they're doing.

"Our detectives were able to gather information that wasn't consistent with a robbery"

...so what would a real robbery look like? I mean were the stick up guys too nice or something?

GreyWolf217, I could be wrong but as far as I know, Gamestop doesn't extend employee discounts to new consoles. that's the way it is where i work, anyway

Good luck bonding out of jail with a PS3. Now, instead of playing Resistance: Fall of Man, it's going to be hide the hot dog with Tiny, the horse-raping, backwoods giant.

This is precisely the reason you don't hire little kids to do this kind of thing. Granted, any person of any age (If they're stupid enough) might try to pull his off, but it is way more likely that little kids will actually do it. They can be tricked into it much more easily.

people need to learn that crime doesnt pay--its idiots like these that makes the government spend out 100 of millions of dollars for prisons and officers to work in a world that doesnt give a rats arse about the law..not to mention..if they didnt need to spend so much money of lawbreakers..the money could be better spent.. then people posting here that these guys were idiots..not for doing the crime..but getting caught..what is wrong with this country...its wrong you idiots..if it keeps up..companies like gamestop will need to add better security and put the cost on us consumers...helllooooooo..then guys like you all..causing problems more than its worth.. stop the crime

I say hand them over to the people that got screwed out of getting a ps3. I'm from missouri, and there was a group of people standing in line for 20+ hours up at a kansas city store. well one of the guys in line starts throwing a fit, so the store kicked the whole bunch of people out of the store. Couple hours later they find the guy behind a building; he got the #$%@ beatin' out of him.
