£1 million worth of 360s stolen

Two truckloads of consoles hijacked as thieves stock up for Christmas.

Two consignments of Xbox 360s has been stolen in the UK this week, reports regional newspaper the Express and Star.

The first occurred after a lorry was flagged down travelling south on the A38 at Hillards Cross. The driver, who thought he was being waved down to inform him of a problem with his vehicle, pulled over. The men then threatened him and dragged him out of the cab, they then made off with the lorry and £750,000 (approx $1.5 million) worth of consoles. The driver suffered minor injuries, and the lorry was later found--empty--further down the A38.

The second theft occurred in the Hellmann Worldwide Logistics depot on the morning of November 23, when a trailer containing £250,000 ($483,000) worth of Microsoft's next-gen consoles was taken.

Staffordshire police spokesman Peter Stevens said, "We are appealing for information from anyone offered [the consoles] in suspicious circumstances, such as in a pub, at a car boot sale, or off the back of a lorry, to help us track down those responsible."

    I guess the theves are getting their Chrismas shopping done early. Next week there will be a truckload of games stolen. PS to JackDelahunt My dad is a trucker and I Have been on the road with him and just to let you know truckers are not fat lazy asses like you think they are.

    Ihardwick, check out Kotaku, YouTube or System Wars for all the PS3 complaints. You're a little behind on this one. It crashes, it gets a flashing red light (just like the 360) which means it's game over for your new console, and it also screws up massively with 1080i HDTVs.

    At 400 GBP/unit this is works out to 2,500 units. I hope they'll find the folks, but the heists sound elaborate. The thieves may actually have a few brain cells. I don't doubt Microsoft has the ability to track them if they connect to live if they're in fact tracking individual unit serial numbers during shipment.

    Davideogamer is absolutely right. We don't have any way to defend ourselves in the UK because our ridiculous government gives criminals more rights than victims.

    I would cheer the driver if he had managed to break the legs of the thieves, but it wouldn't take Tony Blair long to lock the driver up and give the thieves compensation.

    There must be some sort of insurance for mishaps like this. Every shop should have at least an insurance policy for goods stolen. I wouldn't be surprised if a big margin of those consoles will be used for various modification research

    hardwick. I sold a PS3. That's right. My friend got one too but opened it. We messed around with it. It sucks. No joke. It is has a horribly designed dashboard, and looks pregnant. I wouldn't sleep with it. The 360 on the other hand, I have slept with. She is good. Very, very good. Resistance is all right, though. But who needs that when Gears of War is so awesome? This is the part where I would name 20 games that are out now, and 40 that are on the way. But my arm hurts. Dead Rising. Fable 2. Halo 3. Nuf said.
