EA conjuring new Harry Potter

Boy wizard returns with Order of the Phoenix; movie tie-in slated for July 2007 release on all three next-gen consoles, select current-gen systems.

When it comes to stirring hysteria among the younger generation, there aren't many properties more potent than the Harry Potter books by author J.K. Rowling. Electronic Arts hopes that some of that magic rubs off next year, as the company has announced the latest game based on the fledgling wizard, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Due to release in conjunction with the Warner Bros. feature film of the same name, Order of the Phoenix will be the first Harry Potter game to appear on next-generation consoles. The Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 will all be bewitched by the game, as will the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, and PC.

The news may not be a surprise to all, as EA previously announced that it was working on a Harry Potter Wii game back in July.

The game will be follow the story featured in the upcoming film and the fifth book in the Harry Potter series of novels. Wannabe wizards will be able to play as Harry, Dumbledore, and Sirius Black as they wander the halls of Hogwarts and other locales featured in the book and film.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, in development at EA UK, has not yet been rated or priced.

This is going to be the greatest game to come out on next-gen consoles. They'll be talking about this one for years after playing it.

Hopefully this one is good. I love the books, but the games just never did it for me

I'm not trying to rip off other games, but a GTA-style Harry Potter game, where you can switch between Harry, Hermione, and Ron, and spells mapped to the face buttons (like they did in Marvel Ultimate Alliance) would probably make the first decent game in the series. But, of course, I'm no game designer. I'm just using what works.

The reason not many people have anything positive to say about Harry Potter is because it's English, and to most Americans, English people are gay so Harry Potter is 'gay'.

Well I'm from England and I'm not afraid to say that, other than the most recent one, I've loved all the Potter games. I've read all the books and seen all the films (even though the films are terrible), and I can't wait for the new game.

By the way for those who were wondering, The 7th book, the film and this game all come out this July (haha come out cus they're gay SARDONISM PEOPLE!

    samples92, that's a cool idea. I need a Wii! That sounded wrong, didn't it?

I wasn't impressed with the other HP games... but I am hoping the new one for Wii will be a heck of a lot better and be worth buying. I've heard rumors that there will be a microphone and you will use the wiimote as a wand. So you'd have to say the spell and move your "wand" in the correct motion. Could be a winner.... or fail miserably! I'm hoping for a great new game!

I'm still content with all three of my last-gen consoles. But if there was one game that could make me run out & get a Wii immediately it would be a new Harry Potter game.

    "Swish and flick!"

Just as a side note have any of you heard of the new X-box? If not can you guess what it's going to be called?...the X-box....wait for it.......720!!! :O what a surprise! If that information was some how wrong don't blame me...I read it in an Xbox magazine they may change it as well....anyway happy gaming 2 days left for UK dwellers!

i never played harry potter on the consoles. i only played the pc versions. with the exception of the fourth game, they were all awesome. I personally do not see harry potter movies just to see emma watson. that is just a big plus.

Harry Potter is an awesome book series! Can't wait to see (and play) #5 Order of the Phoenix. much better than the schlock that Hollywood has been churning out the past 4-5 years!

I would get it on wii, lol. I mean think of the possibilities. But it had better not be as bad as the last one. The others were good but 4 was horrible.

I met the guy who animated a couple of Harry Potter games for EA (the lead animator). But he's working with Disney now (on chicken little, that was the last time I spoke to him)... He told me that the series might concentrate on alot of other new technology which makes it really like the films.

He was concentrating on a LOT of animation (the dragon etc) and that was his job. But he was saying that the team was creating new engines to make it more realistic.. and this was a more than a year and a half ago! So maybe EA will get the goods out and work on a great movie to game..game

But this was BEFORE the wii was even called the wii, the remote wasnt even on show then! So EA's strategy might of changed there.. as back then the NEXT GEN meant movie-like graphics...
I hope the wii remote could be used as a wand.. this would sell SO many copies for sure!

I think you naysayers need to get a life. I am 24 years old and I am going to tell you that Harry Potter is NOT just for kids. There are dark themes in the books and the last movie was even rated PG-13. So stop it with the kiddy comments!

I am highly looking forward to this game, and so are many other HP fans out there. The Goblet of Fire game was a dissappointment but from the various descriptions I've read about it this game is going to be good. I've seen screenshots already! I can't wait!

After playing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for a few minutes on the 360--- as I picked it up a week or 2 ago because it was on the Xbox 360'S BC list and super cheap--- I found myself inpressed that the game was actually a fun adventure game. Now I'm tempted to go back to get the other BC Harry Potter games.
