Wii Play confirmed for North America

Reggie lets it slip; minigame collection and Wiimote bundle will get US release sometime next year.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amie revealed that the heretofore Euro- and Japan-only bundle Wii Play will, in fact, get a North American release. Speaking with GameSpot staffers in New York today, Fils-Amie said the decision had been made to bring the nine-game collection and controller pack to US gamers sometime next year. The title brings a collection of entry-level titles to the mass-market console--included in the mix are table tennis, hockey, fishing, and billiards games. No price was mentioned.

ok what kind of game is it?"

    ...

"included in the mix are table tennis, hockey, fishing, and billiards games."

So it's basically Wii Sports 2 with different games, sounds like a nice addition to me.

Saturnrise is being a little silly methinks.

I consider myself a Hardcore gamer, yes i do play those types of games, but do you know what else i play? EVERYTHING. Every damn game i can get my hands on, RPGs, Fighters, Platformers, Family games, IMPORT games i cant even read. etcetcetc.

    Me hardcore, you, demographic.

I love how Gamespoters take news about a set of mini-games that pack in with a controller and turn it into a thing of grandure that disapoints. People, it is a PACK-IN with a controller! What do you people want? Remember, there are other games to get. They aren't trying to sell the system with this, just give a little added value to the cointroller purchase. Calm down.

yes, it must feel a lot worse to pay thru the nose for a 360 only to have Table-Tennis launched by Take2 as some kind of killer-app. Glad i never spent ££ on that piece of junk. by the way, Gears of War on its way to PC. wow all those 360 "exclusives" are available for download!

I agree how could anybody call himself hard core and play only a few games

saturnsrise if you want to be hardcore then you need to appecciate any type of game wether its an indie platformer or a marketing machine as Halo. I f you only like FPS or action game games then you are just a demographic (15 - 20)

Wasn't it the president of Nintendo that earlier this year said if the Wii doesn't sell as well as the Gamecube it will be a total failure? I'm sorry, but if Nintendo expects to succeed in the console wars, they're going to have to do a little more than release table tennis, fishing, hockey, and pool. I used to be the biggest supporter of Nintendo, but this proves that they have completely lost touch with the hard-core gamer. Real gamers play Gears of War, Halo, Resistance: Fall of Man, COD, etc., not ridiculous table top games. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, you're saying that hardcore gamers only play one type of game, that being FPSs. Man, it must suck to be a hardcore gamer to not be able to play other types of games. I'm glad I'm a casual gamer so that I can play whatever type of game I want to. I can play Halo and table tennis.

it's sad when people think fps are what hardcore gamers want, although i must admit gears of war is incredible. Don't care too much about halo, cod, or resistance though

That was the first thing that came to my mind, too, CheddarLimbo. But in the end, I think I can wait until Wii Play's release to nab that second remote. By the time the bundle hits the US, I'm hoping my friends will have jumped on board the Wii wagon and bring their own controllers for gathering. (An even more likely situation for me considering tax time's coming up.)

  • CheddarLimbo

    Posted Nov 19, 2006 11:41 am PT

This looks interesting, but it presents a problem - I don't think I'll ever need more that 2 remotes. But I don't want to wait until this thing comes out to get the second one. WiiPlay doesn't seem like it's all that complicated. How is it that this isn't ready for distribution at launch in America.

Frustrating. Maybe WiiPlay will be available by itself, for a discount.

This is exciting news for me. For those worried that the games will be similar to Wii Sports, have no fear, they are all different. In fact, Wii Play has some nifty games like a 3D Duck Hunt remake (the final level with the UFO's is pretty sweet), a game where bubbles with a silhouette of your Mii fall from the top and you have to choose the correct out of 3 positions as well as twisting your wrist to match up the silhouette and pop the bubble, and a game where you ride a bull around a race track while running over scarecrows and leaping over hurdles. Definitely a great addition of games for the Mii chars...

laoldr, that's my point. Consider this what if the day after they went on sale (the wii only it's in white iteration), they say oh by the way next week we are launching 12 new colors that will be available immediately. It's like companies in general hold back now or don't have there ducks in a row until it's just 1 minute to late (the largest amount of sales happens directly at launch) then they spring something on you. ie..

360 Marketplace gets launched with games, but there's content already available to pay for. - why not include it in the game and develop content a little down the road and at least make it look like it wasn't supposed to be part of the original game.

The Live Vision launched stating you could download Totemball, but then you get your live vision and wait weeks to get totemball because it's not really there and ready for download.

The Wii remote... hey we just launched it and all of our faithful fans went out and supported us by buying multiple remotes. OK now... We are giving away a game with it very soon if you buy another one.

2 days before launch Nintendo pulls it's Web Browser, News Channel and Weather Channel until later. In all of these instances it's shear incompetence by the companies to not have this stuff worked out in advance. In all instances it's the consumer that is left standing there saying.... but but I thought....you said.....Oh fine I'll buy more or wait it out. This a trend now that really needs to be stopped as it's only getting worse.
