PS3 line hit by drive-by BB shooting

Kentucky TV station says four people hit by pellets; no serious injures reported.

Those who camp out for system launches know ahead of time that they'll have to endure a number of hardships to walk away with a new game console on day one, but being shot probably isn't among them.

A drive-by BB gun shooting hit four people at a Best Buy store in Lexington, Kentucky, last night according to reports from the local CBS affiliate, WKYT. Three of the people hit were camped out in line to buy a PlayStation 3 when it goes on sale Friday morning, while the fourth was a WKYT reporter covering the line for a story.

Two of those hit reportedly packed up and left the line, saying "a PlayStation 3 simply isn't worth it." The third customer remained in line, telling WKYT "I'd do it again, even if I get shot again."

A representative with the Lexington Police Department told GameSpot the shooting happened about 8 p.m., with nobody requiring medical attention, and none of the people hit by the BBs filing a police report. While the police are keeping an eye on the line, he said there have been no more incidents at the Best Buy, and no reports of lines from any other retailers in the area.

    typical fan boy statement with no understanding or grasp of what is really going to happen. Hate to break this to you, but with 5 times as many consoles available @ launch, compared to the ps3, the Wii is going to sell out just a fast. Nintendo (and 3rd parties) have been release games that are worth playing on all of nintendo's system for some time now and true gamers(not that ones that just believe marketing ads) have known this for some time. If you want a butt load of crummy games, pick up a ps3. their launch titles stink. That and with ever 1 good game they have comes 10 bad games. Sweet just what i want to blow 50 dollars on... oh wait...60dolalrs ... a crappy game. NO thanks. I'll take innovation and gameplay over hype and smoke and mirrors any deay of the century

    LOL, so the method really worked? Note to myself: next time I want to buy a console on launch day, do a night drive-by with some pellet guns and come back and stand in line 5 minutes later. I would surely be the 5th in line, if not the 1st.

    Personally, if I were cramped up in that line I'd welcome the excitement. I'd be yelling at them to come back and shoot me some more to break up the monotany.

    The chances of a BB shot being lethal are lower than the chances of dying from an illness caught waiting in line for a PS3.

    If you could die from being shot by a BB 1 in 1000 times I'd have been dead 100 times over by the time I was 12.

    People just like to blow stupid little pranks out of preportion by saying that it could have been lethal. The car ride there could have been lethal. Much higher chance. I'd be more afraid if they were throwing kittens at me.

    Wow, glad I decided to avoid buying a PS3. That Best Buy is like 3 miles from here. An employee told me they were only getting like 30 anyways.

    lol i'm a best buy employee at that store and i heard nothing about it...but apparently a rapist was caught in our store earlier that day....all kinds of crazy stuff going down that i didnt see...of course i'm too busy telling customers that we're technically sold out of PS3's due to campers

    Jeez, that's just wrong. Why even do anything like that? The weather is already kicking a lot of their asses, and then there's the disappointment for a lot of them when they realize they stood in line for hours and days and can't get a system. I think they've suffered enough without getting shot at...

    that's really sad. the best buy that i work at just paid to have a police officer stay overnight with the campers tonight to make sure they're ok. and no it's not really funny people, someone could have been seriously hurt.
