Star Wars gets bundled

LucasArts to sell five of its biggest sci-fi hits from the last five years in one PC package; Galaxies trial also included.

As highly regarded as the Indiana Jones and Monkey Island franchises might be, the name of LucasArts has become synonymous with Star Wars. The game publisher is packaging some of the reasons for that together in a five-game bundle of Star Wars PC releases from the last five years, it announced today.

Star Wars: The Best of PC will include multiple takes on the sci-fi franchise, including Star Wars: Empire at War (real-time strategy), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (role-playing game), Star Wars Republic Commando (squad-based tactical shooter) Star Wars: Battlefront (team-based shooter), and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (traditional first-person shooter). LucasArts is also including a 14-day trial of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars Galaxies in the package.

Star Wars: The Best of PC will be available this holiday season for $39.99. All of the games in the package are rated T for Teen.

I remember seeing this at Best Buy one time and thinking, "This would've been a great bundle if not for one thing...I bought all of the games on the day they came out." Great bundle though, all of the games are great.

The greatest game deal I've ever seen, aside from the Barbie Horses and Neopets game boy advance bundle at Best Buy for $9.99.

Overall, JK2 is the best game in the pack. I've always wanted to play it. Battlefront's alright, kotor's great, empire at war is pretty good, and republic commando is sweet. But JK2 still rocks. Oh yeah, in the bundle, I got a free frisbee for my dog in the form of the Galaxies trial.

    Some deal, eh?

I played KotOR on my Xbox and a demo of Battlefront, but I don't own either. I was out looking for EaW when I ran into this fine collection. Needless to say I bought the collection instead. I'm happy to replay KotOR and try EaW and the rest. This SW fan has just picked up his best Christmas gift of the season. I will, however, ignore the 14 day trial.

i bought it at bestbuy during the black friday madness. Believe it or not, I don't own any of these games, but I heard good things about KOTOR and I tried the demo for Empires at War and it was decent. I already have Battlefront II for PC (which no one plays, wonder why LucasArts put I instead of II in the bundle...). And I'm not touching Galaxies within a mile radius.

SW: Empire at War -- Worth it...
SW: Knights of the Old Republic -- Well worth it...
SW: Republic Commando -- Not so much...
Star Wars: Battlefront -- Not so much...
JK II: Outcast -- Well worth it...
SW: Galaxies -- Not even worth installing.

Strange that KOTOR II wasn't added... The KOTOR series and the Jedi Knight series are really the only redeeming games in a long string of bad Star Wars games. Empire at War isn't too bad, but it's sad when an new and improved RTS can't break the Starcraft Barrier.

Don't even waste your time with Galaxies though. Great concept, piss poor execution.

Wow, 5 games for the price of one... well, maybe two, since they're kind of old and cheaper now. I don't have any of these games! I have demos for EaW and JK: JO, and I've played battlefront, but I don't actually own any of them.

Anybody wanting to buy bundle has probably bought them in the past or at least played them already. This is an inventory control tactic for the older games and marketing strategy for the failing SWG.
Hopefully they will come out with some winners in calendar year 07

Why do people think you can't play TIE Fighter on XP? With XP's backwards compatibility mode and software like DOSBox, you can play pretty much any game. All you have to do is try (or at the very least look on Google).

Tie Fighter and X-Wing are the best Star Wars games ever!!!

They need to re-release these games for Windows XP systems!
But i will only play Tie-Fighter if they include the original Tie-Fighter soundtrack!

p.s. X-wing vs Tie-Fighter and X-Wing Alliance (mediocre effects and full of mistakes) were both horrible...a sad ending to a great series.

I own all but 1 (Star Wars Battlefront). This is an amazing deal for anyone that has not picked up some of these games. I am curious though, why bundle all of these games together? Did they not sell well at retail? Or are they trying to get more cash for game development?

This is quite a good pack, because all of these games are pretty decent, marking (arguably) a return to form after a long period of sub-par SW games. However, I shan't buy it, as I've already got KOTOR and Jedi Knight.

But I agree with AngryNarn - we need a proper update of X-Wing/TIE Fighter. Maybe X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter 2?

Looks like a good deal if you haven't played many of those. I'm a little disappointed that LucasArts has yet to release a WIndows XP friendly version of Tie Fighter though.

eternal_dragon0: There's a sequel for Republic Commando? Haven't heard of.

I just hope these will be on DVD-ROMs. CD-ROMs is really a bad idea for softwares over 700MB. North America is the only place where some softwares over 700MB are still on multiple CD-ROMs while the rest of the world has definitely opted for DVD-ROM.

What's the point of giving you a load of outdated games? Even if it's for 10 bucks, it's still just a bunch of games that'll collect dust. Out of the 5, only EAW is worth playing, since KOTOR and Republic Commando already has sequels out which have better graphics and specs. I'd rather they'd bundled EAW and the expansion for 40 bucks.

i really feel sorry for LucasArts and hope they will start making some good games again. star wars 2007 im looking at you.

i was volunteering at the ADAPT 2006 conference in montreal canada where all the movie and some game buffs were there (syd mead, Scott Robertson, Lucasarts/ILM)

they showed off SW 2007 technology and it was really impressive

they also showed indiana jones in action which was cool too but the bugs were still very obvious.
