MTV upgrades to Gamer's Week 2.0

Cable network's second annual celebration of all things gaming is set for next week; six-day promotion leads into weekend releases of PS3, Wii.

Last November, cable network MTV ran "GameORZ Week," a weeklong stretch of game-themed programming tied to Microsoft's launch of the Xbox 360. With the PlayStation 3 and Wii launching on November 17 and November 19, respectively, MTV decided a second such week would be twice as nice.

MTV today announced the spell-checked sequel to GameORZ Week, Gamer's Week 2.0. Set to air across all of the network's properties (MTV, MTV2, mtvU, game matchmaking and chat utility Xfire, and Web sites games.mtv.com and GameTrailers), Gamer's Week 2.0 will run November 13 through November 18, with game-themed programming saturating each day.

Highlights include the premiere of Gears of War: The Race to Launch, a documentary about the final stretch of Microsoft Game Studio's Xbox 360 shooter from the Electronic Entertainment Expo to its release this week, and The Empire Arcadia, a reality series about a group of "arcade hustlers" from the South Bronx. There's also The Real Price of Virtual Gold, a documentary on gold farming in World of Warcraft featuring exclusive footage shot in China for MTV News.

Yeah, we know how well the unveiling of Xbox360 on MTV worked out. Why do they call it MTV anymore, it should be the "every crappy teenager and young adult ratings getter with 1 hour of music at the most every month." Thank god for MTV2.

It's a gaming show. It's on an international cable network. That couldn't be bad, could it?

I gave up on G4 when they completely got rid of the TechTV influence. I gave up on MTV a long time ago, when they stopped playing music. TV is best for hooking my computer/console up to.

You know FFXII just came out not too long ago, would it kill them to include a retrospect of the series? Now is the best time guys.

I had an excuse to watch it last year: I didn't have a Xbox 360 yet. This year there's no reason to watch it and I'm afraid I'll lose IQ points if I do.

Huh...MTV putting on some real gamer-conscious programming... I'm shocked. I may just have to check out the gold-farming thing...

Really, if MTV wants to panders to us gamers, they won't have to do much to be better than G4. What a lame excuse for a gamer's channel...

So their having a documentary on Gears of War which isn't on either the PS3 or Wii? Then again MTV doesn't know too much about gaming anyway.

The documentary "The Real Price of Virtual Gold" sounds very interesting, I'll definitely have to check that out.

Also it will be awesome to see the 2nd half of production in GoW: Race to Launch.

Might be cool who knows, it's interesting they're ending the day before the Wii launches though. However I suppose anyone who watches MTV on a regular basis doesn't have alot of interest in the Wii.

It ends on November 18th? The Wii comes out on the 19th. What kind of person schedualed it to miss the Wii's release date?
