GameStop.com selling Zelda only with Wii bundle

$695 console package includes Twilight Princess and five more games; bundle also includes 1GB SD card, additional Wiimote, product replacement plan, and mag subscription.

Earlier this week, GameStop and its subsidiary EB Games announced their online Wii preorder program. The console would only be available beginning Thursday night as part of an expensive bundle--around $699--the details of which were not made public. Given the fact the Wii costs only $249.99 on its own, many potential buyers balked at forking out close to $449 for an unknown assortment of "games and accessories."

Now, GameStop.com has revealed the contents of its Wii preorder bundle, which has a final price tag of $694.88 before tax and shipping. Besides the $250 console package--the Wiimote, Nunchuk controller, power and AV cords, sensor bar, stands, and the game Wii Sports--the bundle will contain six games: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Red Steel, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, and Madden NFL 2007.

Normally, each Wii game costs $49.99--meaning that the value of the console and six games is roughly $549.93. However, the bundle's inclusion of Twilight Princess could be an irresistible draw for those who have not yet preordered the game. According to a GameStop.com rep, the online store has "sold out of their allocation of Twilight Princess," and is no longer selling it a la carte. The rep could only speak for GameStop.com and EBgames.com, and said that gamers should contact their local retail GameStop and EB outlets to see if they had any preorder allocations of Twilight Princess remaining.

Besides the sextet of games, the GameStop Wii bundle will also include an extra Wiimote controller ($39.99) and 1.0GB Wii Memory SD Card ($59.99). The addition of the duo brings the bundle's value to $649.91--$44.97 less than its pre-tax-and-shipping price tag.

What do purchasers get for that extra cost? Two items--a 12-month product replacement plan and a 12-month "gift" subscription to Game Informer magazine. GameStop.com sells the latter for $19.98, leaving the cost of the 12-month product replacement plan--which is normally optional--at $24.99.

While the Wii bundles can be preordered on Thursday, November 9, they will not ship until Sunday, November 19.

Do you guys not get this!? The value is no different than if you get this separately! It's not as big of a deal as most are making this out to be. You may be getting shorted a handful of change if anything. Also, if there are games you don't want, just take 'em back to your local gamestop or EB games while they are still shrink-wrapped and get your money back. (That's what I'm doing...)

Hey Noelrock, not to be a jerk, but you can still by the 250 dollar version of the wii and then just buy all the other games seperate. They did the same thing with the x-box 360.

This is another fantastic example of corporate America's faith in the stupidity of the general populace. Let's force crap on consumers they neither need nor want and make them pay a ridiculous amount for a ridiculous bundle!

What's the point of Nintendo's plan of making this the cheapest console if Gamestop is just gonna jack up the price? PS3 would be a better buy compared to this bundle...

this is not gonna sell well. alot of ppl are most likely not gonna like all the games in the bundle, which right ther is a waste of at least $100 and u probably wont need the product replacement plan. if the systems dont work like the 360s thers probably jus gonn be recall and giv evry1 a new system. i would never spend money on this bundle

thats a load of crap you dont have to wait in line that line. those guys are overkilling it. our best buy is getting plenty here in town, my bro works there, he said something like 400, though i doubt its that much the rush wont be near as bad as for ps3 or even 360.

It has 512 Megabytes of memory already built-in, but for downloading games, and keeping large quantites of memory, you need and SD memory unit.

What the hell is Wallmart... sounds like Big W.
Yeah it's not so big in Australia it kind of sucks compared to Target and Kmart (I'm just talking about Australia.)
Right now i could go to Kmart and get a pre-order because not much people bother and they can't be bothered lining up.

I dont have anything BUT an EB/GS in my area. There's a Rhino, but it's an hour away in the best traffic. I wouldn't even be buying the darn console at EB if I didn't already have some credit there from somehing else, but I think it'll be WalMart that I buy all my accessories at.

Ewww. Charging more for the bundle than what the entire bundle is worth? That totally defeats the purpose of bundling in the first place.

Anyone with a shred of decency, grab your $250 Wii instead and buy what you want separately.

Funny that I've already got Red Stell and Twilight Princess reserved for Wii already lol...
Now I've got to raise some more money in case i want to go out and buy The Oane Chapara vorteX And the Chikuyuu Boeigun(earth defense force)
I would say, have patience for something that you really want.
It will make it less stressful and more enjoyable when the times comes.

I don't much care that you worked for a gamestop in the past, I work for EB now. There are games that are extremely difficult to get your hands on, and if people didn't choose to guarantee themselves a copy for the outragously high price of 5 dollars, then that's their problem. I would never tell someone that if they don't preorder a game, that they have no chance of getting it, but they are infact better off just putting the 5 dollars down. It gets them a copy and gets the store more copies to sell overall. Our store is small, and we had about 70+ preorders for Gears of War, and that game was pretty much unattainable for a couple days after launch. For as long as I've bought games I've pre ordered the games I wanted just because I could, it's a nice service, and I'm not saying this to make any game store look good.

This is the worst bundle ever invented. Atleast, since it's the only way to get the system from them it is. If they offered a normal non-bundled system that would be okay.

But basically, everyone who can't get a PS3 who was going to get a Wii instead, is now looking at the ability to pay the same amount to GameStop for a cheaper console. But everyone who wanted a Wii because they couldn't afford a PS3 are completely left out. It may be smart from a buisness standpoint, but it's a dirty mean and stupid thing to do to your gamer customers.

I honestly hope nobody is excited about this...some bundle, buy a Wii, get a new controller, Zelda and 5 other games you don't want (plus other "bonus" crap you don't want anyway) all for the low low price of: more than you would pay for them each separately. Nice EB. Really nice.
