Silver PS2 comes to US

New silver-colored PlayStation 2 now available for $129; new model will be available while supplies last.

When the PlayStation 3 was announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2005, Sony showed off the console in three different colors--silver, white, and black. But with the launch of the system a mere weeks away, early adopters will only have the black hue to take home.

For Sony fans who pimped out their living rooms in a silver motif in anticipation of getting a silver PS3, all is not lost. The company today confirmed what online retailers previously leaked--a silver-colored PlayStation 2 redesign is now available in North America.

The model, previously released in Europe and Japan, will retail for $129.99, the same price as the black model. In today's announcement, Sony indicated that the model will be available "while supplies last."

The difference between $ony and Nintendo is, Nintendo gives new colors when the system is still pretty new, not on the way out. Any time (AT ALL) that Sony used to come up with this idea should have been used to un-fudge their PS3 problems.

It looks good. PS2 is still a good deal, many games are still being made for it, like NFS Carbon. I'd get one... if I hadn't already saved up for the Wii .

If it was a hundred bucks, I'd get it.

But it's not. So I wont.

The hardware is so out dated. Give it up sony! I don't care what color you give me it in, I'm not buying a PS2 again. PS3 comes out in like one month. Jeez

The only thing sadder than when someone posts a link to a gamespot news article on a forum and someone tells them theyre late, is when Gamespot themselves are late to the news.
Gamespot has been slacking, some editors here need to be fired.

Price could be lower, but yes people do care about what games they can play on the PS2. Just got FFXII today, and Okami a couple weeks ago, with Guitar Hero II soon, and Rogue Galaxy 1.5 in the 2007 distance for the rest of the winter once I'm done with FFXII. Geez, I sound like a shill... d00d! CheCK ouT My AmaZoN LiSTMania! /vomits

Sony must be hoping to get the people that show up to retailers the day after the PS3 launches. "I'm sorry we are out of the PS3, but we do have this new silver PS2 which is $470 cheaper. How about one of them?"

That's some awesome timing on that release. This is gonna make it hard for me to decide between a PS3, 360, Wii, and silver PS2 this holiday season. What morons!

WOAH! The silver one is only NOW coming the the USA?!?

Thats crazy! Its been out over in the UK for a year or so now... Sony mustve been holding this one out, for a special christmas season release.. LOL.

I think sony should of released the ps3 in different colours for the launch window, because its a PREMIUM console designed to be in a livingroom setup to match their hdtvs and stuff.. what if someone wants an all silver setup?
That market has been left out, even though sony intend on supplying to that "people who are serious about their entertainment" market.

I want a ps3, but im waiting til christmas 07. By then, it should have a silver one out.
Or hopefully a white one so i can match it next to the wii and the 360! What im saying is, sony are intent on making the ps2 and the ps3 for the forefront of your livingroom. They should supply the colours for those livingrooms... wifes all over the country will be more accepting aswell!!

The 360 has faceplates, which is kind of a good idea with the flat design of the 360, it can stack a dvd player or home cinema decoder ontop of it. And it will basically match that way as you would only see the front (no controller shells tho )

But the ps3 has a loud and proud design, and should be avaliable in black AND silver IMO because its designed to be a singular unit, in your hdtv display.

Come on sony! release the colours! I dont want pink, or camo, i want silver and black! (and white )

Nice to see US finally getting the Silver.

I however am in Australia, and we've had them ever since the slims were released... in fact I also recall a phat silver ps2 a couple of year back too.

Anyways, I bought one of these slim PS2 only a few weeks ago (shortly after hearing the PS3 delay for Europe/Australia). And yes I have a PS3 on pre-order already, had the pre-order since June/July.

Couldn't wait much longer to get into Guitar Hero and Gran Turrissmo, so the PS2 still makes sense for someone who has to wait till March 07 for a PS3. However for it to come out in the US within a month of the PS3 launch. It makes as much sense as the PSone did a few years ago.

Funny enough even though it's an old system (now that ps3 is underway) Im sure that this thing will sell many just because of the silver color.

I think most of you guys dont give Sony credit as for as their marketing scheme goes. I mean it is kind of jacked up because i would have love to bought a sliver one at the ps2 launch but now i see why they held back.

Sony's got some smart people for marketing that's for sure.

I tossed my PS2 a while back to stock up credit for my darling 360, but now, with all of the good stuff that I've missed out on in the past months, the color change is just adding for the need to pick up another PS2. Why? I don't know. But it does. Besides, I'll most likely never be buying a PS3. So be it.

Why now? How about 6 months ago Sony. People are gearing up for the next gen consoles and the release a silver PS2. Someone needs some talking to at Sony.
