Star Trek: Legacy warps two weeks back

Going where no man has gone before will have to wait an extra fortnight, as Bethesda pushes back PC, 360 game to November 21.
By Tim Surette, GameSpot
Posted Oct 25, 2006 2:46 pm PT

Gaming fans of Star Trek have no doubt been waiting for Star Trek: Legacy, the next-gen game from Bethesda Softworks (Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion). In the space combat sim, players will commandeer a vessel through several eras of Trek, from the Star Trek prequel Enterprise to Star Trek: Voyager. The game will also feature the voice-acting skills of several of the series' legendary captains, including William Shatner as James T. Kirk and Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard.

Unfortunately for fans, it appears as though the game has hit a small bump in its time-space continuum. Online retailers have the game listed as releasing on November 21, two weeks later than Bethesda's previous November 7 shipping date. GameSpot contacted Bethesda Softworks and received an "affirmative" on the game's new ship date.

As for the reason for the delay, Bethesda's Star Trek message board might have the answer. A forum moderator who goes by the handle "RMoore" claims to have contacted Bethesda, who cited quality assurance as reasons for the delay.

Star Trek: Legacy has not yet been rated and will retail for $59.99 on the Xbox 360 and $39.99 on the PC. For more info, head over to GameSpot's previous coverage.

Even Worse News!!!!! It has been delayed even further. It was supposed to come out on 12/5/2006 and now has been delayed tentatively to 12/12/06. That makes for a grand total of 4 weeks of delays. I'm seriously worried. I love Star Trek and have been craving for a new game. Hopefully, this is just Bethesda being meticulous like they were on Elder Scrolls IV. Keep ur fingers crossed!!!

OMG.. i just read on the official forum that,at least, the German release will be published by UBI
And we all know how stable UBI games are on release date.. i don't want to wait for months before a decent patch gets released.

Think i'll just cancel my preorder and see what happens when the game hits the shelves and the 1st reviews are published

It has been in development for years and really this is just not tolerable. They should be slapped for being **** about Gears of War. Gears of War will do better, but running away from it with their heads up their asses is just not the way to take defeat. People if not more would get both since it is like...holy crap 2 awesome looking games to play! Just gotta play GOW first!

I just dont think they should have delayed this. Just...dissapointing. I'm gonna get this becuase the screens are very impressive now the phasers seem perfect now, but it still pains me that I have to wait becuase they are made of chicken ****

They could atleast send us a nice long battle vid.

I'll pick this one up. I'm thinking I will wait to hear which platform it controls better before I order it. My gut tells me PC of course but who knows with the interfaces they are designing these days.

Well if pushing the game back means I don't have to deal with the crap I'm hearing about SW Forces of Cor, ect then I'm all for it. I've been waiting for SFCIII to make the next step into z-axis and timeline progression.

I really hope it's worth the wait.

20$ difference between 360 and PC. Interesting...

And about the game... it will probably be good (we are talking about Bethesda here).

Another fatal flaw is that the Wii will have a huge amount of attention, why should people think about Legacy when something as great as the Wii is out just a couple days after that? *shakes head* A pity, I was so going to get the game, and I can say I WAS one of the biggest supporters. Well no longer need to come here since I'm not getting it, I would rather play COD3, Gears of War, and the freakin Wii!!!

Boooooooo! Hey, I'm from Philly...its what we do.

I guess the delay is ok though. I'd rather have the game released late than have it show up on-time with bugs (ya hear that EA?)

Should be a good game although that $60 price tag for the 360 still irritates me.

BNOv5:
"its more for the 360 cuz PC owners pay more...duh"
.
.
Huh?!? What kind of warped logic is that? Are you referring to the PC hardware usually costing more than a console system? If so I don't think that is the case at all for the difference. These developers and publishers don't give a rats behind if you spent $6000 or $500 on your rig, they just want your money. The most likely reason that the 360 version costs so damn much more is that Microsoft requires their piece of the action for allowing this game on their system and so as usual the cost is passed along to the consumers. If I am wrong then someone please correct me.

Yes, its the same RMoore that does Battlestar Galactica and all the others, if you watch the end of it on free to air tv he comes up. He got the job as a forum moderator from Bethesda.

And Legacy actually has its rating, its rated E10+.

Sorry, I just meant in the actual new blurb. It seems like DS9 is the forgotten series when it comes to anyone not "into" Trek.

RMoore's avatar certainly looks like Ronald D. Moore. It probably is him. I can't imagine an official forum moderator pathetic enough to impersonate a Star Trek producer. I can't check his forum history though without registering. Maybe someone else who cares enough can do it.

RMoore, eh... Anyone want to lay odds for or against this guy being Ronald D. Moore, writer for TNG and DS9, and current Exec. Producer and Story Editor for Battlestar Galactica?

Yeah, I've seen that Star Trek Movie and a few others, they're really good. Anyway, I hope this delay will increase the quality of the game.

I can't wait to play this game, but I'm actually glad that it got bumped back a couple of weeks just so I can get some time to really dig into GeOW, CoD3, Viva P, & FEAR.

Star Trek Legacy is made by Bethesda; the same group of developers that released Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the Xbox 360 and the PC nearly a year ago!

I CANNOT WAIT for Star Trek: Legacy to be released on the Xbox 360!

This is a COOOOOOL game that is going to AWESOME on the Xbox 360. You will need a REALLY expensive and powerful PC in order to have graphics similar to the Xbox 360. I think that is reason why the Xbox 360 version of the game is more expensive. One thing is for sure: I am going to be the FIRST person in line for this Xbox 360 game!
