DDR 360 does a 180

Next-gen rug-cutting, roof-raising will have to wait until next year as Konami has Dance Dance Revolution Universe slated for "early 2007."

Originally scheduled for release this fall, the Dance Dance Revolution series debut on the Xbox 360 was pushed back into a holiday 2006-early 2007 release. Now it's solidly in the 2007 camp, as a Konami representative told GameSpot today the game definitely won't be out this year. The reason given for the delay was that the process of complying with Microsoft's protocols for third-party peripherals was proving more time consuming than originally expected.

DDR Universe will feature enhanced versions of the series' familiar edit, workout, quest, and party modes, as well as the new "how to play," trial, and supereasy modes, each of which is designed to make the fast-and-furious rhythm action more accessible for first timers. The game will also introduce the new relay mode, which invites groups of players to tag team the dance mat for some extended marathon dance sessions.

Like the DDR Ultramix games for the original Xbox, DDR Universe will feature Xbox Live support for online competitions and 360-exclusive downloadable song packs. Konami's representative told GameSpot that DDR Universe's dance pads will be wired but would not rule out the possibility of future DDR games on the Xbox 360 featuring wireless mats.

Dance Dance Revolution Universe is currently set for release in "early 2007." For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I love DDR :p I have all 4 for the original xbox and yes...i look dorky, and yes...girls do laugh...BUT girls LOVE to play it too...as long as you look like a dork first, they won't be as embarassed.

I can't wait until Universe comes out. It is about time that they get a DDR out for the 360.

Sociologist, chill. No one likes anal internet personalities. Anyone can be a jerk on the internet. The majority of us find the adimittedly cheesy titles a welcome relief from a world that takes itself all too seriously.

It just isn't DDR when you play it at home on a soft dance mat XD
Maybe if I get rich I'll get an arcade in my HOUSE O_o

i never have liked playing DDR on a Dance mat, just never feels right and thus i must waste way too much money down at the arcade.

Brendan, or whoever comes up with these titles for news stories... you just need to STOP while you are ahead. Your titles are not clever, and are completely sophomoric and the mark of an amateur, (did you not take any journalism classes in college ffs?). Reading your titles and journalistic style (or lack thereof) reminds me of watching Bob Saget's lame lines of America's funniest home videos from back in the day. Please just say "DDR 360 delayed" instead of making yourself look like a fool. That is all... thanks.

This is good news, more time for me to save money on a dance pad and the game itself, plus I will be too busy playing Gears of War.

All I care is if my current dance mats (which already have USB connectors, by the way) will work with this game. The same goes for any DDR games that come out for the PS3 and Wii.

well... they did actually post this a while ago ... so I'm not all that surprised. As others have said, as long as it's a solid mat that stays put I'll be ok. Want to make me really happy? Allow my PS2 -> USB converter to work so that I can use legacy mats. Nice extra: wireless mats! Hope Kaonomi is listening

ratlhead_basic said, "If the pads are going to be wired, come out with adapter to make existing Xbox pads compatible. Ridiculous that I"m going to have to rebuy the pads I already have on top of the game purchase. Greedy corporate America at its best."

All Xbox 360 controllers (including steering wheels, arcade sticks, etc.) must have a security chip which identifies the type of device for the Xbox 360. Without this chip, the Xbox 360 will not accept input from the device. This is the primary reason there is no "adapter" for expensive Xbox controllers (e.g. the Steel Battalion 40-button, two-joystick, 3-footpad monster) and there definitely won't be an adapter for your current Xbox dance pads. If you want to play DDR on an Xbox 360, you're going to have to buy a new pad.

Actually Generic_Dude, I had two wireless pads, and they only took two AAs and lasted a long time, as long as wireless controllers take. And I'd imagine it would be no more on a wireless guitar, all the batteries do is send a beam to the receiver, it doesnt matter how many buttons there are, just how much energy is needed, which nowadays is getting less and less.

Im glad theyre taking time off for the 360 debut, they need to come out socking people in the mouth with it. That...and I can actually get it (hoping for a 360 for Christmas)!!!

Has everything about it that says "get it right" and there are a lot of legal types involved. I for one would welcome DDR 360 - variety is what makes a console strong. The games ARE fun - just not for everybody.
