GRAW 2 revealed, Assassin's, BIA delayed

Ubisoft's first-quarter revenues do more than reveal finances; new Ghost Recon announced, Wii support to 14 games by March '07.

Though company revenue announcements are often filled with fiscal-year projections, operating-income costs, and other financial mumbo jumbo, Ubisoft's first-semester report today gave news--both good and bad--that related to games.

Today's report wasn't just good for investors (Ubisoft was up 13 percent for the first half of its current fiscal year), it was also good for fans of the Ghost Recon series. The company announced Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, which is scheduled for release in the company's fourth quarter (January-March 2007).

No details on the game, including its platforms or plot, have yet been released. The sequel's timing is a bit surprising, as the original wasn't released too long ago. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter--which according to Ubisoft has sold more than 2.4 million copies across all platforms--was released in March 2006.

GRAW 2 isn't the only thing Ubi is prepping for gamers' springtime. Also coming by the end of March 2007 will be seven more Wii games from the publisher, including "one nonannounced new brand." With the seven previously announced Wii launch games from the company, Ubisoft expects to have 14 Wii titles in stores before April 2007.

Of course, with all this good news came a smidgen of bad tidings. With GRAW 2 sliding into Q1 2007, two games were pushed back. In a statement, the company said, "[The launch of GRAW 2] will take the place of Assassin's Creed and Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway, which will now strengthen fiscal year 2007-08," which runs from April 2007 through March 2008.

That info implies that the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed was planned for an early 2007 release, even though it was always tagged with a "TBA" release date. Hell's Highway was expected to be released in the first quarter of 2007. Both games are in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Sucks BIA was delayed. The first two were truely great games that we're actually able to bring something new to the WWII FPS sub genre. PSP version sucked though. Kinda sad, I was looking forward to that.

Anyway, GRAW 2 is a big surprise, though since it just came out, it's looking to be pretty good. And not a huge surprise, to me anyway, that Assassins Creed got pushed back. I expect a holiday '07 release. Sound fair eh?

Who really gives a damn about crappy third party Wii games though right?

    Exactly my point/

Guys, they're not saying it's going to take another year. For those of you who aren't out there in the corporate world, they're saying it will be released in their next [fiscal] year, which runs from this coming April through the following March. We probably actually are looking at closer to 6 months from now (just an estimate). From a business standpoint, they most likely wouldn't wait until the end of the next fiscal year to release bread and butter title like these. Their business forecasts would be all wonky and their investors would get nervous.

STOPHELTJE: "What company-tactics run behind the decision to delay 2 good games and bring on forward GRAW2 on an early stage (taken in consideration the company is making profits..)?" well, since the original GRAW was a sucsess and is said by many to be the first «true» next-gen game to come out on the 360, i think UBISOFT is deffinetly thinking in terms of profitability, when it chooses to delay two new good games in favor of a «follow-up». Because of GRAW reputation, they think that GRAW2 has every chance to perform well (in sailes), and they can achieve this at a low developpement cost (since the first game was great, one of the best games on the 360, they surely wont be starting this one from scratch.......). Plus, we must not forget what happened with GRAW during its develepoment stage....... few months befor its release, the game didn't look prepared, and featured bad critics....... however, in a short period of time, the game was released and showed its credits! So, maybe we shouldn't interpret GRAW2 fast release as a bad thing...(judging from the past experience). Now, when speaking in terms of the game value....... i m quite sure that GRAW2 wont be as great as GRAW was....... (its first weakness is its lack of originality!!) unless it compensates by fixing the aspects where GRAW didn't work that well ( i personaly think this will be a little unlikely, since GRAW didn't show many weaknesses!). By this i mean that gamers would probably be better served if 2, i mean ...1 original game was released instead of a «follow-up»............. but UBISOFT is determined to make the most out of its GRAW investment !!! Unfortunately, developers primery gaol ain't to deliver us outstanding games........ but to make profits!! ............... MONEY TALKS........ lol

Hmm strange, profit went up 13% (apr-sep 2006) but they still have to delay the outcome for 2 big games. I think it's time to invest Ubisoft! In menpower that is! So delays will not be the future policy. Not only gives it the company a bad name, it will also drop turn-over! (also on longer terms!) Strange thing is though that Ubisoft prefers a secondary release (maybe an addon as statted before) of GRAW (which was released 9th march 2006). Now what tactics could be behind this? I surely think they have taken this problem in consideration, but I think this decision is made on short-terms instead of long-term (cause they sure as hell ain't making fans happy about it (see all the comments listed below.. and in future above ^^)) Could be interesting to discuss this. So feel free to answer the next question: "What company-tactics run behind the decision to delay 2 good games and bring on forward GRAW2 on an early stage (taken in consideration the company is making profits..)?"

GRAW 2 so soon? that must mean it'll probably be more like an expansion than a totally new game. Sucks about Assassin's Creed but more time means more polish. Not a fan of the first BIA so could care less about the sequel.

I just can't believe BIA III won't be release soon. Brothers in Arms 3 and Assassin's Creed was the game I liked the most during the E3 of 2006. Now, I'm sure as hell there will be another E3 before these games come out.

I loved the GRAW , I'm happy that they made a sequel & It's coming to us quick - only hope is that it has a very good multi ( all that good graphics is a waste on campaign as the multi was disappointing ) , but I'm also saddened by the push back of assasins creed - it was looking very good indeed.

    nooooo.

BIA was first announced to be out this fall. I already got pissed when it was pushed to march, and now im even more pissed! I guess I should just start expecting all UBI games to be delayed, sometimes more than once.

I could care less about GRAW 2. I would think most people would e happy bout GRAW 2, but I am not. Way to soon for it to come out...

I bet GRAW 2 is on Wii only, cause xbox 360, PC and PS3 owners are getting rainbow six. a little like what they did with Assasincs Creed and Prince Of Persia. Ubi notices tht old franchices will fell the same on the PS3 and xbbox 360 so theire making new franchises on them BIA 3 and Rainbow are only to end the franchise or theire goeing to be very differnt from the old ones (in my opinion). As for Wii the games will be completly different on it so they don't have to worry about the gameplay feeling repetetive. ~:::
By the way a freind of mine talked to somebody that works in ubisoft in canada, and the ubi worker (hm, nice name) said that the Wii will never be succesful, in us. can. and maybe not even eur.!!!!!!!!!!!! Makes you wonder deosen't it ? why all the support for somethig they don't beleive in ? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
