No 100GB hard drive for 360

Microsoft says recent references to peripheral were "misleading" and that it has no plans to bring the add-on to market.

Last week a Korean gaming site carried pictures from a presentation on Xbox 360 peripherals at Microsoft's X06 Korea event. The snapshots included art of the Xbox Live Vision camera, a 256MB memory card, the Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver that lets players use the system peripherals on a PC without cords, and an Xbox 360 hard drive with "100GB" written across the top.

The news was picked up and reported around the Web, and Microsoft today finally addressed the issue directly. A representative for the company passed on the following statement:

"The reference to a 100GB hard drive in a recent presentation in Korea has been misleading, and in fact we have no plans to bring a 100GB hard drive to the market. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused."

The representative could not explain exactly how the reference was misleading. When asked if the company had plans for a larger Xbox 360 hard drive, he did say it was "always a possibility."

"The device is modular, and there's the possibility that different hard drives will be available in the future," the representative said. "To reiterate, we have no plans to announce such an accessory in the near future."

Quote "in fact we have no plans to bring a 100GB hard drive to the market"

Does that means it will be a bigger or smaller Hard Drive then the 100 GB ?

Anyway, i too think MS should get out a bigger Hard Drive.

Its such a laugh now-days how everything is "misleading" or "taken out of context". The phrase "take out of context" is pretty much saying "Ya I said or did something stupid and don't wish to say I was wrong or apologize". Someone dropped the ball at Microsoft, my guess is that there will be a 100GB HDD in the near future and this little incident has taken some wind out of their sails.

I don't see the problem. After 6 months, my hard drive is only half full, anyway. Sure, I admit I don't actually have many games for it right now, so save game space is at a minimum, but I've played loads of demos and downloaded quite a bit of free content, and I just delete most of it when I'm done. I actually think most of the demos on Live are quite poor, anyway. Sure, they're mostly good & long enough to give you a nice feel for the game (I'm citing Just Cause and Lost Planet in particular), but most feel a little limited. Dead Rising, in particular, though a great game, didn't have that hot of a demo, in my opinion.
But that's beside the point. If I wanted to, I could put all 8Gb of music from my PC on my present HDD and still not need to delete any stuff I wanted to keep for some time - so this really shouldn't have much of an impact on anything. Obviously if you're really stuck, you can just use a third-party external HDD, but I honestly wouldn't want to spend the money when I could buy games instead.
Oh, and percuvius2, what's wrong with being poor? I can only assume that your offensive comments are designed to compensate for some deficiency in the trouser department, but I'm sure I speak for most people here when I say that I don't give a hoot about how fabulously wealthy you are. I don't judge people by how much money they have, and nor should you. I'd insult you but my post'd only get pulled and I don't want to lower myself to your level.

wow percuvius2...just wow. you're one of the worst human beings i've ever came across in my entire life.

if that's the attitude you're going to take towards the posessions you own, then you don't deserve a single one of them.

it's one thing to be proud of what you own, and enjoy the things you have, but to blatantly knock on the less fortunate like that is just plain ridiculous.

Buying every system doesn't make you a "gamer". At the moment I do own all the current consoles and handhelds but I don't see myself a gamer more than someone who may only have one or two. Some systems aren't worth buying quite frankly. How many of you so called "real gamers" bought the Neo Geo, how about the Virtual Boy, or maybe the Phantom, and I'm sure only a fraction of you bought the Dreamcast. I do understand the frustration "fan boys" can cause but why argue with them, they're just as much gamers as someone with 20 different consoles. They just have powerful feelings toward one company. That can be understandable since with the last generation of consoles the games were particularly genre biased. Sony was very RPG/action associated, Microsoft was all over the FPS scene, and Nintendo was focusing on children's games. This is not to say that these were the only good games those companies made but it seemed to be their strongest areas. So if you only like FPSs wouldn't you gravitate toward the XBOX? I play a wide variety of games and enjoy it. Let the people who like what they like be and chill out. One last note: I think everyone here is drastically overlooking the Wii as being the next King Console. Hard drive size doesn't sell consoles and neither do graphics. And I suggest putting your musicand video on your computer and stream it to your XBOX 360.

Ehh... I really don't see how this makes a huge difference for the console itself. It's been doing alright so far, and that's that. Don't know that I'll buy one, though I'd like to, but a hard drive wouldn't affect my choice all that much. Not to say I can't see where a lot of people are coming from here; I can understand the disappointment.

All of you fanboy's need to take a seat and settle down. You all call your selves gamers. If you were real gamers you would get all the systems. That way you can take advantage of each peice of hardware. Face it there will always be a game you want to play on another console at some time or another. The only way to do so is save some cash and share the gaming love. Because thats what it all boils down to is the games. A hard drive or a blueray disk means nothing if the content stored on it is not worth spitting at. Competition is the best thing for the industry. I don't want a clear cut winner. The harder each company has to work for us. (yes they are working for us. We make there checks possible) means better games in return! The last time I checked we called ourselves gamers. Not consolers!

ya, grechin, no console will have better graphics than a pc or not for very long at the least... no 100 gb hd is sad... b/c... well 100 gb would open up the possibility for real games on hd... or expansions... if the ps3 is right in using blue ray to the point that games get to 20-50 gb... then m$ may have to rethink... ah well... I don't have much love for buying expensive perpendiculars anyway

Well, sorry about all you console dudes, but shooters, strategy games, role playing games, & sometimes even fighting games are alot more fun to me on the PC, they just plain rock! Even the old games like Fallout, fallout 2, Half life 1, & Total ahnialation (or however you spell it) are outstanding put fallout up against fight night round three and well, I enjoy fallout ten times more. I mean, also, the PC isn't crushing itself over this whole "CONSOLE WAR!!" Because it comes out on top of each one, I still remember when the PS2 came out and it was "The end" for PC games, because the PS2 had such "Better graphics" well, look at the comparison now, games like cysis and Fear or even Battle field 1942 look better than most of, if not all of the PS2 Games on the market, and same goes for Xbox! Now just wait, and see the same thing happening to These "Next Generation Consoles".

just because your a PS3 fanboy i doesnt mean we have to hear about it

i agree real gamers get all the systems
i want all three systems to do good so they have to work harder on the games.
then the system with the better games will come out on top

My HD is empty. I have no music on it because I use Windows Media Connect. I tend to delete a lot of demos because I get OXM issues every month.

Why the Hell would you need something bigger then . . say . . 80?

And people, the 360 is not a PC, so don't talk about the size of a computer's HD because it's not the same thing.

  • DatDude08

Hate to burst your bubble Kane04, but its rumored that GTA lV may be exclusive to 360 . They will eventually have to release a bigger HDD, but right now its ok. And most people dont need/want HD-DVD player so why would MS raise the price for something not really needed. Oh, and name one game that needs more than the 9 gigs of space that a dvd can hold. I dont care if I have to change a disk, since I can get off my couch.

    Posted Oct 25, 2006 1:07 pm PT

Kane04: Such a fanboy you are. I agree that the hardrive is too small, but i guess they will release some larger sooner or later.

Why should they do a controll with tilt function. Sony already stolen the ideas and put them in a control, without DualShock. That's lame!

Even with blue-ray, GTA IV won't be bigger on PS3! That's the most stupid statement this year. As you might remember Rockstar is developing the game on both consoles at the same time, and I doubt thta they'll put two teams to make the same game. Why would there be more cars? Developers complained when Sony had to make the console slower, just so it wouldn't be to expensive. In the end, it's not a lot better than X360.

If you buy the expensive X360 you won't have to pay more than about 5000$ which is far from 6800$ for a PS3. And by the way. The next-gen is already here, with Xbox 360 and a lot of great exclusivce titles!

I agree with you Nosferatu220, 120 should be min. i dont know why they dont come out with all kinds of harddrives - 60, 80, 120, 200. the more you want the more you pay.

  • Nosferatu220

    Posted Oct 25, 2006 12:14 pm PT

20g is nothing. hell, 60g is nothing. You can't even find 80g pc harddrives in stores anymore. The 360 needs atleast 120g standard in both versions.

the hell with this S--T i was gonna buy a 360, but NO ANY MORE
first they launch the damn thing in november 2005, cool...
but now they are selling HD-DVD player separately, they say they are not gonna launch a 100gb but i don't think so, sooner or later they NEED to launch one bigger and the rumors that they were very impressed by the wii/ps3 motion sensor controller and probably gonna make a new one (remember Controller S?)

i had enough 360 remembers me LEGO game, they sell you the console them a lot of other stuff to keep her on the race for nex-gen

what does 360 HAVE of next gen any way? the HD-DVD IS JUST FOR MOVIES, and the 9gb DVD is too weak (people say "you can compress data" yeah but you can only fit 13gb on a 9gb DVD, and thats WEAK) Blu-Ry is the future look at all the support he has, be biggest movie makers are with Sony and is Blu-Ray. can you imagine GTA IV on a DVD?????? i bet the 360 is gonna have less cars and a smaller city...

PS3 is looking better and better and while some say is to expensive i had make some calculations and buy every thing for the 360 so i can have the fully loaded sys is gonna cost more than the 60gb version of PS3

i guess this is the strategy of MS, they all ways made fouls of us (just look at windows) they sell every thing apart so it look cheaper, put it all together and will have the most expensive console.

guess i made the right decision when i didn't buy one in the rush, now i can see the truth. i'm gonna wait till march and buy a PlayStation 3, THE REAL NEX-GEN

Meh, the 20GB is fine sure you only really get 13GB but 7GB is for game saves and updates.

If you want a large harddrive for your 360 you can. Just buy a second hard drive or look around. xbox-scene has a link some where to a place that sells 70GB hard drives that plug in through the USB.

i think a 60 gigg or 80 would do the trick... price shouldnt be to bad..
it sux they haven't annouced anything & suggest it won't be anytime soon...
but it's kind of hard to believe they won't have to release something larger.. soon... if live arcade & demos , etc ,continue to be so successfull people will need more space.... & that means a larger drive...

Haha, during X06, I had only 64 Megabytes of space on my Hardrive. I went into shock or something after I saw that. And only 12 gigs of the 20 are available for us, so basically to us it;s a 12 gig hardrive.

have you forgotten that the ps3 will have linux on it so it will be like a pc in a way so a bigger hard drive will be usefull.
GrimBee Quote: Its not like you are gonna NEED all that space on there, because you CAN stream content off of a pc. Unlike a ps3.\
Yes is probably can if you set it up computers can stream to each other can they not(linux).
