Warriors headed for PSP

Rockstar announces portable version of movie-based PS2 and Xbox brawler to hit stores later this year.

With its wildly controversial PlayStation 2 game Bully arriving in stores this week, Rockstar Games has pulled the wraps off its next project: a PlayStation Portable edition of the company's mildly controversial PS2 and Xbox brawler The Warriors.

Named one of the 10 most violent games of 2005 by the Family Media Guide, The Warriors expanded on the story of the 1979 film of the same name. In the movie, the members of a street gang framed for murder must traverse New York City at night to return to the safety of their home turf. The game filled in gaps in the movie's plot and encompassed a wealth of backstory that movie audiences didn't get to see.

It's not quite clear to what extent the PSP edition of the Warriors will mirror either the film or last year's console games. Other film-to-game adaptations like Electronic Arts' The Godfather and Vivendi's Scarface have been significantly altered on their way to Sony's portable.

Rockstar founder Sam Houser said in a statement that the company was "looking forward to setting the definitive bar for the brawler genre" on the PSP, but that was quickly followed by Rockstar Leeds president Gordon Hall's comment that "the PSP system allows us to deliver the experience in an entirely different way..."

Whatever form The Warriors on the PSP takes, gamers can expect it on North American and European shelves by the end of the year. For more on last year's Warriors game, check out the full review.

We all know R* Can make great PSP games, and The Warriors should be no exeption. This should be bundled with a UMD of the Movie. Great Movie, Great game, the only pairing in existance.

I loved the warriors, i never bought the ps2 one, mainly because i was buying games for pc and 360, i wish i would hve, but oh well

I did however just buy the DVD a couple weeks ago, i always liked that movie, its a shame they never made a sequal, or tried a remake

    Anyway, hope this is good

This game should be good... IF they change the game from the original on the PS2. That game was good, but if I want to play it again, I'll just pop is in my PS2 and play it on the big screen rather than the PSP.

i think rockstar should make all psp games then at least there shouldnt be much loading (excluding DUB)

and no DS could not handle a game like this chances are even if they got it running on the DS it would instantly catch fire band goto hell due to the fact its not owerful enough

I hope they re-make the Warriors, it was talked about a few years ago, but I haven't heard much recently. I love that movie, I think I will dress up as one of those baseball dudes for Halloween this year.

Some of you need to reread the article again. No where in it does it say this game will be a port of the PS2 version. All of you DS owners shouldn't jump to conclusions before you know the facts. Having said that it could be a straight up port with tweaked controls but for now nobody outside of Rockstar knows.

PSP...Come Out and playay. Freakin Warriors is awesome. After the game, i went to see what it was all about. Except for the noticeable age of the movie its freakin awesome. It really made me appreciate what an awesome job Rockstar did in turning it into a game

I don't understand why they would port the game instead of coming up with a different one. Hopefully it the port will be different enough from the console version to keep people interested.

    Bully on psp? Hmm....

Genuis, in fact gagan, there might be a strong possibility and theres nothing to stop it, not even Jack Thompson. i doubt many kids have a psp, so it has no problem with being published.

Furbyballistik i know it sounds good but how you going to play with one analog and the loads times were crazy on the ps2 and this is a port so you know what it most likely will suck.just like gta you cant play these games on the psp cause they were made for ps2 witch has 2 analogs if you played gta you know when they shooting at you from behind you cant look back and shoot you have to actully walk foward and then back around just to be able to see them to shoot them and to me thats wack
