THQ pounding out two Warhammer 40K sequels in 2007?

Source: The finale of the expansion pack Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade.

What we heard: This week, the few hardcore PC gamers who already bought, played, and finished Dark Crusade were treated to a tantalizing teaser. When players complete their conquest of the planet Kronus in campaign mode and the credits roll, the game cuts back to an outer-space shot of the blue planet where all the action took place. Then the camera slowly pans backward to reveal another dusty-looking planet that appears to be wracked by warfare, with explosions popping up all across the surface. The slow pan continues further along to show yet another, reddish planet, where fighting also seems to be taking place. The screen goes dark and in big block letters, "2007" appears.

The postcredits sequence implies that, at the very least, an expansion to Dawn of War will be released next year, perhaps combining the series' trademark real-time strategy battles with some sort of space-exploration element. This would certainly make sense in the context of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, in which multiple warring factions are always vying for intergalactic supremacy. Some have taken that the shot shows two planets as a sign that THQ and Warhammer developer Relic are readying not just one, but a pair of expansions--or possibly even sequels--to Dawn of War.

The official story: "That's awesome that you guys finished the game! Unfortunately, we aren't currently announcing anything, as Dark Crusade just shipped...Feel free to speculate!"--THQ rep.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that THQ is readying at least one Dawn of War product. And, given that the original Dawn of War and the Winter Assault expansion have sold more than 260,000 units to date combined (according to the NPD Group), a second expansion also seems likely.

Well if they decide to expand the game then they could go and make a Dawn of War version of the recently completed Death of Medusa V worldwide campaign. I actually think they should create a brand new game set 10,000 years prior to the setting of Dawn of War: The Horus Heresy.

This would be nice. I also wonder if it is the PS3 and 360 ones that have been rumored. But after playing battle for middle earth on the 360 I hope it is not a console version. But if it is a new PC one that is great. That is a great game and the expansion makes it even better.

I'd love another hardcore Space Hulk game, akin to the original game for the 486.

I still can't see why they limited my Assault termanator, I could have beat the Tau Compant much easier if they did not, still great game and great news, now they have to created a group who does not use squads at all, maybe just big king kong-like units. And they could mount their rides, like rhions, and such.....(kindof sound like donkey kong...oh well) ...oh and put it for the Wii. I mean it would seem like a good marriage

i wonder what races they'll do this time, i seem to remember they said they wouldn't do tyranids with the current game engine. Perhaps they'll be bringing out a "dawn of war 2" so to speak, with an engine fit for a tyranid! or they'll just do something else like dark eldar....

Not that I mean to insult this game (as it looks really awesome, and has always looked awesome to me). but I'm not buying it until they put Tyranids in there. They're the only 40K race I like.

Nice. Before Dawn of War i wasn't even intrested in this because i thought it was nothing but a StarCraft clone but since then I have bought every 40k RTS game and i am loving every second of it. Glad to see that more are in the works.

oh gosh, all i can say is i'll never tire of the expansions and i'll buy every dawn of war game as long as they keep up the quality work, but i would eventually like to see a sequels with destructable enviroments and a more advanced strategic model, but i'd hate to have to settle on only four races agian, after having seven in one game its pianful to speculate, but alas it will be quite a while till we see such a thing.

tyranids would be great but since the word is that they don't want them in this game engine is a sequel out of the question.

enterprise, star craft is obviously a great attempt by blizzard to nock of Warhammer 40k, so how can this be the clone, yeah it is fiarly similar, but it is also superior in many ways, the only thing that made star craft stand out so was the fantastic single player, something these game are finally getting. i must go out and buy this this weekend, i love company of heroes but the warhammer 40k universe just briethes of innovative artistic creativity. and i just love the space marines, they are so bad @$$.

I'm guessing they are integrating the Homeworld engine into it and adding Battlefleet Gothic (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/bfg/default.htm).

How about a campaign set during the Horus Heresy? You could be Horus challenging the Emperor.

A campaign of the Horus Heresy its a must for the sequel. Imagine A game like Battlefield 2 but in the Warhammer 40000 world.

Tyranids perhaps? It would be nice to have the Tyranids and a full Inquisition side, since they can make all 3 branches of it too...

I find this rather funny Enterprise.. Because Warhammer 40k inspired Starcraft and it has been real speculation of Starcraft was originally suppose to be a Warhammer 40k but GW got cold feet and exited the scene half way into devolpment.

Ooh, I can't wait until they atleast announce it... heck, I don't even have the Dark Crusade Expansion yet, but I'm sure it will tie my RTS urges over until I get Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, or Command & Conquer 3 (when they come out).

I've spoken with an employee of the copmany and the only Warhammer 40k project they currently have in the works is for a pure sequel that is atleast 2 years away. However, this is a person from the CoH team and another team may be developing more Dawn of War expansions so...

Everyone is asking for Tyranids, I don't even know what they are yet. I only played the demo of Dark Crusade and will buy a pack with all 3 games. Although I would like to see better graphics, they will start to look dated when we get into 2007. Possibly just create a whole new game rather than another update. Would love to see explosions like the ones in Company of Heroes.

Blimey! That's a nice way to end the game! I reckon it'll be one expansion pack, where you as a race invade the other planets with Kronos as a stronghold, we could see spacecraft battles?
And Tyranids have got to be in the next game... They're the only major race that's been left out...

oh and "e1337prodigy" Tyranids are swarms of insect/lizard aliens that were originally based on the ones from the "Alien" movie.
