Final Guitar Hero II tracklist confirmed

RedOctane names 40 songs for upcoming sequel, says there will be an additional 24 unlockable tracks.

When GameSpot went hands-on with Activision subsidiary RedOctane's PlayStation 2 encore to last year's cult hit Guitar Hero, the game's tracklist was still in flux. When the game was originally announced, RedOctane said only that it would include "more than 55" songs, but now a spokesperson for the publisher has said that the game will have 64 tracks in all, with 24 of those being unlockable bonus tracks.

A list of the game's 40 default songs started circulating on the Internet last week after a Guitar Hero II video preview on MTV.com included legible shots of the carefully guarded tracklist. RedOctane has since confirmed the accuracy of the list, which follows below, separated by difficulty level.

If you know anything about Van Halen, then you know why they don't have one of their original songs on the game. David Lee Roth will never let the rest of Van Halen use any of the songs he sang for, and for whatever reason, Sammy Hagar doesn't do it for most VH fans. Personally I think the Sammy-led VH is just as good, if not better, than most of the early VH. Let's be glad they found a way to get at least one of their songs in the game, and lets hope there is more in the bonus tracks.

whats with everyone wanting dragonforce on GH? they're ok, but still, it would be impossible to play their songs because the solos and stuff have no melody, just rampid finger tapping. BTW like the song list, FREEBIRD!!!

Play GH1 and you'll get Jimmi and Cream, but Zeppelin and Metallica wouldn't give up their rights to the music, and neither would Jethro Tull - the devs kept on that one until the last minute. Pink Floyd would've been nice, though.

not too concerned with the convo below at a glance, but its definaitly nice too see that the gaming community at large (for the most part) appreciates GOOD ole' fashion rock and bastard roll

yeah shame about the lack of floyd, zeppelin, maiden, jimmi, jethro tull, 'tallica, cream..... and... well the list goes on and on, but i deffinaitly appreciate the list they pulled togather.... looking forward too seeing more from those guys.

everyone needs to stop fussing over iron maiden and ac/dc and metallica
and led zep. red octane said that the bonus unlockable songs are gonna be by more well known artists and that the music community was much more generous this time around regarding the bonus songs.

    There's still hope!

The lineup seems really decent, especially better than the first game with the exception of Avenged Sevenfold's NEW stuff.

Although...I don't know why, whenever I imagined this game, I thought of Children of Bodom--they should strongly consider that band for GHIII.

I wish The Offspring was in it. "The Kids Aren't Alright" would have been a kickarse song to play in GH2.

    Maybe next time then.

I hope the unlockable songs are crap like in GH1. There were maybe 3 decent songs in all of them, and at least 10 complete and utter waste of my time songs. In the After Hours movie, he made it sound like they were going to be real songs, not weird junk.

Guitar Hero 2 is rated T for teen which means there will be no bands that apeal to actual rock/metal fans. well, most of us anyway.

    the bands that are missing, and the ones that should have been in the first game are;

    KORN
    METALLICA
    COLD
    MUDVAYNE
    CHILDREN OF BODOM
    DISTURBED
    GODSMACK
    SLAYER
    LINKIN PARK
    TRIVIUM
    DIMMU BORGIR
    GOD FORBID
    SYSTEM OF A DOWN
    BREAKING BENJIMEN
    RAMMSTEIN
    .........
the list goes on and on, but they are never gonna put these bands in because then it would be rated M.... but thats exactly what we want from a game of this nature, not some stupid teenager paradise of boy bands and soft rock......

OK I'm going to admit that being quite young, I haven't heard of many of these bands and i enjoy punk, alternative, bit of metal and emo music. This is simply my personal taste, and everyone is entitled to their own music tastes so no slagging off please.

Would have loved to have seen a My Chemical Romance - Thank You For The Venom, Green Day - Basket Case, and Bullet for my Valentine - Hand of Blood/4 Words (To Choke Upon) or actually anything from Bullet would have been mad.

But it's a pretty good tracklist. I haven't heard of most of those bands though lol. Rapt to see The Living End and Wolfmother on there! SUPPORT AUSSIE TALENT!

Doesn't everyone know they tried to get all those bands you are complaining about like metallica, zeppelin ac/da ect. but couldn't becuase they either asked for to much money to have there song up there(metallica) or wouldn't give up the rights to their songs (zeppelin) so if you want to complain, try going to their messages boards.

What's up with the Van Halen version of You Really Got Me? Van Halen's got great tunes of their own. I'd love to see Hot For Teacher on this, and then have the original version of You Really Got Me. The Kinks are awesome.
