Blue Byte set on Settlers VI

German developer working on next installment of long-running strategy series for a 2007 release on the PC.

Ubisoft's Germany-based studio Blue Byte is already at work on The Settlers II: The Next Generation, a 10th Anniversary remake of the PC strategy classic, but it's already looking to its next project, a full-fledged sequel to the series. Ubisoft today announced that Blue Byte is working on The Settlers VI (working title) for the PC, with a projected release sometime in 2007.

The publisher has set the bar high for its studio, promising "the best The Settlers game yet," "a perfect mix of favorite elements alongside new developments," and "the best graphics seen in a strategy game to date." Among the team attempting to back up those claims are developers with experience on The Settlers III, The Settlers IV: Heritage of Kings, and the Settlers II: The Next Generation.

Little is known about the sixth installment of the series, but players will once again create cities and watch them bustle with the activities of their inhabitants, and the game will include a story-based campaign mode. Those eager to learn more about the game may have to be a little patient. Extra details on the "new and enhanced" gameplay features will be revealed next year, Ubisoft said.

    I'm basicly saying what everyone els has said I was like OMG cool settlers 5 and i played it and it felt like ages of empires nothing to do with settles i've got settlers 3 and 4 which are basicly the same game and even thought e graphics were pretty crap they were the meanest ever so I hope this gameplay is like 2 3 and 4 but better graphics

    WHAT the HELL was with the 5th? (why would they obliterate the good name of settlers, why they couldn't call it something ells? it was nothing close to the previous settlers games)
    well 6th looks like the original settlers from the trailer... well it better be because i am looking forward of buying this one... i love this game, it has awesome graphics, you cant really control a lot of things, the game play is addicted, easy playing, very appealing, i love the way the people of your town are moving around, it is one of the best strategy games ever made... there is no way you can explain that game you just need to try it… even my friend who hates strategy games, settlers is one of his favorite games...

    Something like Settlers III with graphic design a la Settler 2 (NG) (not too comic-like) would be nice. Comic just looks silly in 3D. Settlers V was a total disappointment for me who has been playing Settlers since part 1 - if I want a game called WarCraft, I play WarCraft and not Settlers. I hope, the guys at BlueByte read this. *still trying to forget the painful part 4*

    Anno 1701, Caesar 4, Settlers 6 - what could a girl like me want more? - Maybe a new and real and good "Planer"-part. And just a bit of X-Com?

    Hope also it is like previous settlers as wel set 5 was way outta wack. I agree it is somewhat milked out but try to do a set4 lan co-op game desync al over the place so ill go for a "true" settlers game with functioning lan !

    I must agree with you. Settlers V was crap. But "a perfect mix of favorite elements alongside new developments," and "the best graphics seen in a strategy game to date." sounds good, doesn't it?

    I'd rather it was a city-building game rather than a war game. How about making it really really detailed and having tons of different types of buildings, and upgrades, and have generation cities where your population grows and expands and stuff...

    I hope its not going to be the same crap as Heritage of Kings ( that game doesnt deserve the name Settlers, it has NOTHING to with Settlers)
    Screw the "new and enhanced" gameplay!
    Go back to the Settlers2 basics, or Settlers3 atleast, but erase that shamefull number 4 from history books...
