Sims 2 Pets brings Hilary Duff home

Teenaged singer/actress gets digital makeover as playable character in next Sims installment; Duff's pooch also included in game that hits stores later this month.

The Sims 2 Pets has really been packing in the star power. So far, the game is getting musical contributions from teen pop duo AJ & Aly, sexed-up girl group Pussycat Dolls, alterna-rockers The Flaming Lips, nerdcore group Hot Chip, and others.

Now the game is moving beyond just the audio stylings of well-known musical artists. Electronic Arts today announced that actress-turned-pop singer Hilary Duff will be featured as a playable character in The Sims 2 Pets. In keeping with the theme of the game, Duff's real-life Chihuahua, Lola, will also be included in the Pets.

Duff and Lola will "appear in different scenes on each of the [game's] platforms" and will be fully interactive. Players will be able to dress up Duff and maker her do their bidding or have their own created Sims characters mingle with her.

The Sims 2 Pets will be released on the PC, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Nintendo DS on October 17. PSP and Game Boy Advance versions will ship later this year. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

Holy crap what's next Lindsay Lohan in a Grand Theft Auto game? Oh wait she's doing that in real life lol. (Well not STEALING cars, but I hope you get the idea). (To evry1snice) I'm a guy who plays the Sims (well Bustin Out at least), and I look at it as an "Interactive Sitcom".

Did anyone really think adding Hilary Duff to the game was going to make people want to buy the expansion? It's not really a selling point. I'll buy the expansion EVENTHOUGH she is in it - not because. As others have pointed out, however, it might be fun to kill her. I will definitely set her sim on fire. I'll leave her dog alone, though, it would be wrong to harm him/her because of their idiot owner.

Huh? Hilary Duff??? No! Nuh uh!!! But still, I'm gonna get the expansion pack! PLEASE!!! ADD SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU MAKE ANOTHER EXPANSION PACK!!!

Even Jessica Simpson is better than Hilary Duff! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I'd do the same as everyone else is doing. Mwaahaahaahaa!!!

I don't care if she's in it or not. I hate her... but that's not going to stop me from buying the expansion. You people need to grow up. D: The point of the game is pets. Hence the name. Just kill the Hilary sim off once you get the chance, and then she won't appear anymore. Funny how the world works huh? -__-

Plus, i'm pretty sure that most girls hate her. I hate her, and every girl I know does. Only girls under the age of 12 will be excited about this(And all you guys that think she's hot I guess... ).
But I cannot speak for all the girls out there.

and now we all have a new sim to kill, ressurect, kill again in a new simish fashion, ressurect, kill again, rinse, and repeat.

she better be a rich sim. that way I am going to make a sim partner to marry her, kill her.... and her litttle dog too... and run away with his mistress with the money.

. . .Why does EA have to own Maxis? WHY?!
And Johnclee, I see where you're coming from, this isn't going to ruin the game. However, added with your suggestions, it will. Can you imagine the vast majority of Restauraunts in The Sims becoming real life restauraunts? More...ugh...(I'm sorry, the idea of celebrities in The Sims makes me feel uncomfortable). BUT UGH! Don't you just get the distinct feeling that they're selling out?! The Sims is supposed to be a made up, silly world, with made up, silly people, and made up, silly things. Shoving real-life ANYTHING into it results in awkwardness. That's why there was so much controversy over the appearance of real songs. EA sees this as an opportunity for...whatever the heck they think the braindead consumer wants. At the same time, a great game is being filled with marketing ploys. Can you honestly bring your Sim to an all-but real life Killers concert, where they might not even sing in simlish, and enjoy yourself?

this will be great... and to those who doesnt understand gaming market its a excellent deal. i dont have to post the details cause it will take an entire forum for the explanation... i can only say that EAgames got the best deal for the game. I just Hope that in the next SIM generation there will be much more and all the items in the previous game can be used also.

You know they refuse to put an A-list celeb due to cost. It's not like they would fork over the mula for the likes of Beyonce, Britney Spears, or Halle Berry. These stars would demand an outrageous fee for their likeness and names mass produced in a top selling PC game. So in the end, we all have to settle for a lesser known personality, besides you do remember that EA put Avril Lavigne in the Sims 1. Anyway it doesn't detract from my obsession with Earth's greatest game. Say, aren't we really getting this EP for the Pets?

Sure seems these comments are from 14 year old boys. Clearly, you guys don't see how this is big news. You mock it as if this will kill the game. The Sims have sold more units than most other games you think are big hits like Resident Evil, Sonic, or even Battlefield. And it's because over half the audience that buys that game is female. So go ahead and make it feel like you are still that pasty kid who lives at home with your parents. Odd that it comes from the same people who complain that gaming isn't taken serious enough as an entertainment medium. So instead of mocking this idea, how about suggesting to EA what you'd like to see in the game? My ideas:
A live concert by The Killers in the game
A WWE match with the wrestlers
    Hooters restaurant chain

Well what about male gamer?! For me, im not happy until Arnold Schwarzenegger gets his own game, and you can like start of as a puny little austrian, and then work your way up to be the most impressive man in history... driving over people in the hummer.. benchpressing people and then slamming them into the ground of california whilst calling them "girly men"...

then becoming president and making an army of machines which will cause a massive nuclear war.. and to commemorate him, the machines make a couple of models in his image

    AWESOME right? lol

Well, this strategy is at least a good way to get teenage girls into gaming. But still with the teeny-pop culture crap! I mean, what abotu the dave grohl lovers?! What about the girls who would die for my chemical romance (i would just let them die tho haha).
I think girls want more than just "hillary duff" in games... Why not brad pitt?

And what about the gay/lesbian community?! Ah the gaming industry is so sexist!!! (lol)

It was recently reported that a larger and larger demographic of gamers is female - their most popular franchise? The Sims!

This is probably what EA considers "good business," but I have to interject here that The Sims' popularity among females has nothing to do with anything "girly" - it is the difference in gameplay mechanics. Females like games that involve communication and social interaction. Putting a pink bow on a game (essentially what they have done here with Duff) will - at best - make no real difference in adoption, and at worst it will actually alienate the females they already have playing the game by patronizing them so transparently.

I for one won't touch this with a ten-foot pole.

"Players will be able to dress up Duff and maker her do their bidding or have their own created Sims characters mingle with her."

Is it just me or does this sentence sound...sexual?
Well regardless, I'll definitely be acquiring this expansion.

Just one more kind of celebrity endorsement. Video games are the "newest media", and Duff just wants to get in on the action. She's just looking to get paid.
