Burning Crusade sparks Collector's Edition

Blizzard outlines deluxe version of World of Warcraft expansion, which will include trading cards, soundtrack, art book, and more; price still unknown.

If you're one of the 7 million World of Warcraft subscribers, chances are you're probably already planning on buying the first expansion to the massively popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Featuring two new playable races and a new continent, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade goes on sale in the US in November for $39.99, and it's rated T for Teen.

However, if you've got some extra cash to shell out, developer-publisher Blizzard Entertainment today officially confirmed rumors that The Burning Crusade would be getting the Collector's Edition treatment. Besides coming in a deluxe box (pictured), the CE will have a variety of goodies for the hardcore Azeroth denizen. It will contain both CD and DVD editions of the expansion, as well as an exclusive in-game pet called the "Netherwhelp." Also included will be a soundtrack CD and a mouse pad with a map of the expansion's new continent, Outland.

The Collector's Edition will also feature a DVD with a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the expansion. The disc "will offer more than two hours worth of developer interviews and commentary on all aspects of the creation of The Burning Crusade, as well as trailers and cinematics from the game, and even footage of panel discussions from BlizzCon," according to Blizzard.

Also included in the Collector's Edition is a hardcover "coffee table book" featuring "exclusive concept art" from the expansion. The tome will be packaged with two starter packs for the forthcoming, Magic: The Gathering-esque World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. Besides the cards in the two packs, the CE will contain three "exclusive tournament-legal World of Warcraft Trading Card Game cards" unavailable elsewhere.

Though it was big on listing the contents of the Collector's Edition of The Burning Crusade, Blizzard omitted one major detail--its cost. "Further details on the contents, as well as pricing and availability info, will be announced at a later date," was all the company would say on the matter. The Collector's Edition of the original WOW cost $79.99, but it was only available in very limited quantities and has been out of print for nearly two years. Sealed copies of the original WOW: CE currently command a premium on eBay, selling for as much as $300.

The cost is $40, which isn't bad, but for the CE it may be from $70-90. I was planning on buying the CE, but I'm beginning to reconsider.

    Blood Elves FTW!!!

Wow = Tired and played out
Wow BC = More of the same, and by far one of the weakest first expansions ever for an MMO

Nah, no luck my gnome is fully geared up in ZG gear and some MC from pugs and my mage is fully geared in pvp gear. Still nothing.

I cannot understand why Blizzard would make a game so focused on raiding and have nothing for soloers. Why is it so popular?

Go gear up in ZG or UBRS, or some of those 5-man instances. I'm sure some guild will give you a shot PvtFreddy.

I have the US CE of this game but now play the EU version as I live in raining driven England. A few days ago I would love to have got both CE's of the EU versions but I have just reached my new character (undead mage) to its peak at lvl 60 and cannot for the life of me find a guild to raid with.

I find that a lot of players in WoW are so selfish when it comes to this. I have a lvl 60 rogue gnome too and he isn't guilded either cause other players say my gear is not good enough. Though I ask myself: how is it going to get good enough if I cannot get into a raid guild?

Anyway, to those that play WoW here, good luck with getting to lvl 70

Ohh this game gives me chills! But i have three problems
    1. Im not sure if i'll have enough for CE
    2. The game will probably sell out really quickly
    3. .........I would be too embarrassed to buy CE in front of everyone. It just calls out "WoW Nerd!!!!!" What shall i do? (:'-(>

WOW CE is just like any other Collector's Edition of anything. Its depends on what is in the box. Then if you really want to hold or get what its worth, you must keep it sealed for true collector value! Then at the right time sell it to someone who really wanted to get it but for one reason or another didn't or couldn't. For this to hold true Blizzard must only sell very Limited quantities. Thats the truth folks! i know, i am a avivd Collecotr of diecast and it works the same there also!

It's seems really cool actually, people have been in and out of the store I work at all day long changing their resevres to the new collectors addition. I was amazed to see how much it costs though...seventy dollars is a little much for my taste. But the diehard WoW players probably could care less if it retailed at even one-hundred dollars. It's all good.

Actually Blizzard didn't rip people off much with CE but they offer chances to those who are lucky enough to get one (or more than one) to rip off those who didn't get one but wanted one.

The package is usually worth the original price with all those contents, the original CE at price $80 and if you buy those items separately, the sum will over $80. Like the artbooks sell at $25 and the behind-scene DVD sell at $10 in stores, and the game was $50, not included other contents. But it's definitely not worth for the inflated price.
