UK Game Charts: September 24-30

EA's FIFA 07 hits the top spot in its first week of release; Kingdom Hearts II, Company of Heroes also enter the top 10.
By Guy Cocker, GameSpot UK
Posted Oct 3, 2006 9:01 am PT

It's no secret that the UK is mad for football, but it appears as though UK gamers are equally mad for football games. The latest digital version of "The Beautiful Game" from Electronic Arts, FIFA 07, easily took the number one position in the all-formats game chart. Perhaps even more impressive was that Chart-Track reported that the game is the seventh-fastest-selling all-formats game on record. The vast majority of sales came from the PlayStation 2 version, which claimed 84 percent of the game's total sales despite FIFA 07 being available on seven platforms.

The last week of September was also good for other publishers, with Square Enix and THQ both claiming new entries in the all-formats top 10. Square's Kingdom Hearts II hit the number five position, outselling the original Kingdom Hearts' first-week sales by a factor of five. THQ's well-reviewed PC game Company of Heroes also made a strong first-week showing at number seven.

Despite these three new entries, many existing games managed to maintain their grip on the chart. Just Cause and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 held on to positions two and three, respectively. LMA Manager 2007 lost two places last week and dropped from four to six.

Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy occupied the previous week's number one slot but dropped to number four last week, while Cars and Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training also tumbled down a few notches. Outside of the top 10, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition arrived at number 32 thanks to its PS2 release, while 42 All-Time Classics on the Nintendo DS entered at number 36.

This week sees the long-delayed release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence in the UK, alongside the Official Nintendo DS Internet Browser and ArchLord for the PC. Check back next week to see if they can make a dent on the charts and to see whether FIFA 07 can maintain pole position.

Company of Heroes 7th? Hmmm, I thought it would have been higher, but I guess the high system demand and general lack of availability cause it to be on such a low place. Also, it looks like sport sgames and action/adventure games are high on the list this time.

People need to read before posting because it clearly states in the article that it is an all format chart and it has been that way for the UK chart for as long as i can remember.
Im surprised the likes of dead rising and saints row have dropped of so quickly but maybe its showing that the 360 hasnt sold that well or the fact that maybe most 360 owners bought the games in the first 2 weeks.

Who cares if the games are multi-plats?! In fact it only proves how strongly UK gamers still support the PS2 despite there are consoles around... May be you missed this part-

"FIFA 07, easily took the number one position in the all-formats game chart. Perhaps even more impressive was that Chart-Track reported that the game is the seventh-fastest-selling all-formats game on record. The vast majority of sales came from the PlayStation 2 version, which claimed 84 percent of the game's total sales despite FIFA 07 being available on seven platforms. "

This is a sign that PS3 will do great in the UK despite the late release, because - 1) not many people have bought the 360 yet, 2) virtually everyone I know has a PS2, 3) people here earn and spend more, 4) lots of casuals and tech-savvy consumers.. oh I can go on and on and on.

[1]P2L5NM, it clearly states what platform it's talking about. that's why madden had 6 or 7 spots when it was released. they do platforms seperatly.[/i]

Wrong. UK charts = Multiformat. Do you see the same game twice? No.

'The latest digital version of "The Beautiful Game" from Electronic Arts, FIFA 07, easily took the number one position in the all-formats game chart'

it's a multiformat chart, just the PS2 version sold more so they put PS2 on the chart.

'OWNED!!!'... as you would say

there wouldn't be half as many different games on the top ten if it counted each format seperately... there'd probably be at least three FIFA 07s for various formats on there and probably the same for Just Cause, Tiger Woods and maybe Lego Star Wars. Those four games would probably take up 9 of the spots (with Kingdom Hearts at number 3) if every version of each game was charted seperately

Umm although games are multiplatform each version on different consoles counts as a different game for chart purposes. That's why you will sometimes see the same game in the charts multiple. You only see the PS2 version FIFA07 in the top ten cos the PS2 version sold 84% of all FIFA07 sales.

People need to realise it's a MULTIFORMAT. So FIFA, godfather cars and Lego star wars are there because it's total sales combined. KH II would probably be MUCH higher on that list if it were a single platform chart.

Errrm. Unless I'm mistaken, most of the titles are multi-platform and not PS2 specific, the platform probably states the default system which is PS2 I think. Cept KHII of course.
