Since 1995, Namco has been telling Tales. The publisher has released numerous installments, remakes, and spin-offs for the franchise, including the original Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Legendia, and more. Now it's going to add Tales of the Abyss for the PlayStation 2 to that list, as Namco Bandai today announced that development on the US version of the game is complete and it will ship to stores October 10.

While it takes a number of cues from Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss offers an entirely new story. Players assume the role of a young aristocrat who was kidnapped as a child and left with no memory of the events before the abduction. Although he has been confined to his mansion since his return for his own safety, the young man eventually finds himself transported out into the world through a strange rift. There he must overcome not only his adversaries, but also his naivete of the world outside his manor.

Tales of the Abyss has been rated T for Teen and will retail for $39.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
