Jump! Ultimate Stars details dished

Famitsu reveals that the forthcoming DS game will incorporate 300 characters from 40 Shonen Jump properties.

Famitsu.com, the online extension of Japan's biggest gaming magazine, today provided a peek at Jump! Ultimate Stars, the fighting game for the Nintendo DS based on the wildly popular weekly Shonen Jump! comic digest.

Famitsu reveals that Jump! Ultimate Stars will draw on 40 Shonen Jump! series, both past and currently running, and will feature a mind-boggling 300 characters. The properties incorporated into the game range from internationally famous action series such as Dragonball Z and One Piece to comedy titles like Kochikame and Dr. Slump.

Players will be able to connect with the Wi-Fi feature for head-to-head matchups. According to Famitsu, the game will feature signature moves for each character, items, and complex stages, which sometimes include areas that can be reached only by breaking down walls.

Jump! Ultimate Stars will be released on November 23 in Japan and is being developed for Nintendo by Ganbarion Co. Ltd.

    BLuFAlc0n, that's one reason why it's better.
but a PSP is a fair superior system to the DS.
DS features: pictochat*, game sharing*, online*. * - must be like 200 feet away (that's nothing)
PSP features: internet, video, picture, music, local or internet online, ablilty to connect to the PS3 system and play PS1 games.

This game is one reason WHY THE DS are better than PSP's!! The ultimate FIGHTING GAME! This game is the best game for the DS! and SSBB for Wii!

Keep dreaming risi37, Nintendo publishes this game so there is no way in hell it can go to PSP and it's almost impossible to release an english version because the animes' license belong to different developers. Like Dragonball belongs to Atari and One Piece to Bandai.

I think it would be cool if they had like a Japanese to English setting. seeing how many U.S. people imported it.

For PSP? Heh, stop dreaming, Nintendo rules and will keep ruling with games like these .

This won't be coming to the US unfortunately, because I would buy it in an instant if it had and English edition.

"300 characters?! Geez. On the DS? One has to wonder how simplified the fighting would be. Too bad this doesn't seem like a US possibility...of course I don't play fighting games on portables anyway."

They made about 100 work on the first Jump! game, so why not. And no the fighting wasn't simplified.

  • Gribb85

    Posted Sep 29, 2006 6:46 am PT

Sorry guys but it won't come to the US merely because they don't believe there is a market for it and getting trademark permissions would be a nightmare. But for just over £20 you could import it using ebay. I did that with the last superstars and didn't regret it, is a nice little portable smash brothers clone, and for anime fans its perfect.

    Definatly recommended

OMFG this is the best news for me like all year! Shoneen Jump is the best thing to ever have been created!

  • glitchgeeman

    Posted Sep 28, 2006 7:34 pm PT

OMFG, that's a lot of characters. Also, there's probably a higher chance of being ran over by a truck tomorrow than there is of this game ever coming to America. The licensing would be crazy. Imagine trying to get the rights to each and every Shonen Jump character EVER. That would be pure insanity.

It would be awesome if Famitsu made it import friendly and included an English language option. Pretty rare in most games, but they could totally drive sales that way.

Edit: Hmm...actually I guess they would be making it export friendly if they did that. Hehe

I just want to know how well the WiFi will work here in the states. Hopefully, enough people will import to ease that pain. And I'd rather be a "japanophile" than a "Maddenophile". (You know, the people that buy Madden every single year sight unseen.)

DX DANGET! I want that game so friggen badly my eyes are bleeding. but because of all the companys that own the english versions of the animes it would get stuck in legal limbo if they tried

woot! i'm a japanophile =P. anyway, defintely looking foward for the import. the only reason i like jumpsuperstars is because it reminds me soo much of ssb. and it has anime characters, cool

Heh ya 300 characters, with the vast majority being support only just like the original. Well as far as ds games go, this is the one I have been looking forward to the most. I hope they update current running character's move sets.
