Xbox Live Madden 360 tourney coming

Online branch of Madden Challenge announced; winners flown to Hawaii for finals against regional offline champs, top eight get Visa cash cards.

The Madden Challenge has long been the gaming equivalent of the Super Bowl. Sponsored by Electronic Arts, the annual tournament looks for the best Madden NFL players to compete for bragging rights, glory, and $100,000. This year the competition went international, and today, Microsoft and EA announced that the competition is going somewhere else it's never been--online.

The Xbox Live Madden NFL 07 Tournament begins October 5, with those interested in competing duking it out in online competition on their Xbox 360s over Xbox Live. After October 10, the top 512 players on the leaderboard who have registered for the tournament will head to bracket play.

The winner of the tournament will be flown to Honolulu, Hawaii, and will be placed in the finals of the Madden Challenge for a chance at $100,000. The top eight players will receive Visa cash cards, and the top 16 will receive 1,000 Xbox Live Marketplace points.

I would play in this tourny but why even bother. A majority of the top players, who think they are good suck. They just exploit the AI. Madden blows and until its completely balance and the game is on point I wont even bother playing it anymore. I'm pissed my GF bought me this garbage.

How does a discussion about the Madden Challenge turn into another fanboy flame war about Playstation vs Xbox vs Nintendo?...

well look at it like this, sonys ps2 has a clunky and rarely used (except for socom) internet user base. the psp ea supports but will do nothing with it due to the fact only a scant few own a combination of a psp and madden 07 (remember last years fiasco with buggy maddens and this years ncaa football 07?) so yeah xbox live on the 360 is a year old, and solid as can be. i dont even have a 360 yet and if i had one, i would most definitely applaud them for this. dont worry, maybe next year it will be on the ps3, and possibly the wii, ds and psp. its just about solidifying your internet base before you try something like this out

EA sucks for making the tournament XBOX-exclusive. Some guy below said that his friends are buying a 360 just to participate (yeah, like they'll really win...). So, they actually are selling systems off this con?! EA sucks for accepting a deal to make the tournament "console-exclusive (XBOX, 360). 360's looking to be a great system but to alienate more than half of your fanbase in the biggest videogame tournament in the world is dumb EA. I've been your biggest supporter, but seriously...

Top 512 on the Leaderboards? Oh well, that's what I get for eperimenting with terrible teams and letting my friends play. I'm not top 512 good anyway esspecially in this year's "Every Running Back is an All Pro" version.

    Guys -

I've seen some posts on other boards saying that the patch was delayed until November. This is not true.

We're waiting to hear when it will be accessible via XBOX Live and at the same time pushing tomake sure it gets out to you as soon as possible.

Apologies for the delay and also for the delayed messaging over the weekend. "

Not to mention the patch notes to mention fatigue being fixed for offline CPU or franchise play, only mentions it being "speed up" for online play.

    Whitey:

Sorry, misread the article. Therefore, EA being extremely short and it is still pathetic as they are a huge company as well. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for pointing it out!

Aww, sweet, I can finally compete in the Madden Challenge, even without going out of my house! I can just do it on Live. But it would probably be better if I went out of the house (offline) and do it...I just dunno at this point.

Hey EA, fix the damn fatigue bug before you have a tourney!

Makes no sense without it fixed!

(then again, there could be a fix coming to coincide with this tourney)

hey capin I don't know why you're complaining to microsoft about how many points are being given away by EA. Considering EA is giving them away not microsoft. do you understand what I'm saying? Don't blame microsoft for EA sucking...

  • DeeCrutch

How in the blue hell can they have any kind of legit tournament in a game where there's no fatigue???? WTF is EA smoking? A person could literally run Reggie Bush 55 consecutive times without him getting tired if they wanted to in the 360 version of Madden. I know this for a fact, because that happened to me in a game against my cousin a couple weeks ago. I sold my copy of Madden 360 not too long after that....
