PS3 games priced at $59.99

Sony's online store lists seven games for next-gen console at just under $60, including one first-party title.

Gamers have known about the price of the PlayStation 3 since E3 (except in Japan, where the price was recently cut), but the costs of the system's games have been up in the air. The cat may be out of the bag now, as the online Sony Style store now has listings for seven games, all priced at $59.99.

Shoppers can now preorder Ubisoft's Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Activision's Tony Hawk Project 8, Call of Duty 3, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog and Full Auto 2: Battlelines, as well as Sony Online Entertainment's Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom.

The pricing of Untold Legends may reveal what future PS3 owners feared--that first-party games would retail for the same price as third-party games. Microsoft currently prices new release first-party games for its Xbox 360 at $49.99, $10 cheaper than the $59.99 tag on third-party games. First-party Wii games have also been confirmed to sell at $49.99.

The price falls in line with what Activision CEO Robert Kotick said at a Merrill Lynch Media and Entertainment Conference earlier this month. "We have not seen a lot of consumer resistance at the higher price points, and we expect that all of our next-generation products will be launched at $60 price points," Kotick said.

Sony has not yet come forth and officially made an announcement regarding the pricing of PS3 games, first-party or otherwise. It should also be noted that while the games are priced at a Sony store, they are for preorders only and prices could change between now and the game's release. Sony had not responded to requests for confirmation as of press time.

Though the PS3 launches in the US on November 17, eager gamers may be able to get their hands on PS3 games before then. Six of the games are listed as releasing before November 17, including Untold Legend's early bird date of November 2. This isn't anything new--Xbox 360 games beat the Xbox 360 to market before its launch last year.

    well some of you meybe frogetting that ps3 has BLUERAY and thoes dics alone should cost more but they also have better stuff on it and better grapics in full 1080P i think thats woth $10 itself

    I'd like to point out to velocity99 that you get what you pay for, yeah free is nice but how stable and reliable will it be, i know plenty of people that prefer xbox live to playstation online service because its a better service, and its a better service because you pay for it. and its only $60 a YEAR or $5 a month if you can afford the console and the expensive games to go with it you can probably afford the service, for instance this website has a $5 a month membership fee and I havn't heard any one complain. so i ask what is the better value at $5 dollars a month gamespot or xbox live you decide

    Jesus christ kids. Take this into consideration: you all seem to forget that you have to PAY for xbox live. So if you buy your 360 games at the so called "cheaper price", you might be paying more in the long run. As for me, i will buy my ps3 game and enjoy FREE online play.

    Ha. Xbox 360 gamers like myself have been paying that price for games for almost a year now, not to mention select games from systems past have cost that years ago. It's only 10$ more than what you were paying for PS2 games. If you think that the price is too much, all it means is that you need to be more selective about the games you buy and not throw your money away on bad ones.

    Honestly... how can anyone bash Sony for this? Even if the price of games IS going to stay at 60$ a pop, which i doubt, Blu-Ray Discs are more expensive to make and hold 25GB of data, while regular DVDs (360, Wii discs) hold only 9GB. Now, which would you rather pay for, more data per disc on a more powerful system, or a lower-quality format DVD on a less-powerful one?

    lets see xbox360 vs. ps3 simply is going to come down to the online play since most of the recent gamers that sparked up love to talk trash to each other over the internet. if you're one of those people who like to play solo and are interested in more variety of games than the ps3 is the way to go but i have to say that if the ps3's online play improves a significant amount the x360 will not stand a chance. halo 3 is what most people are going to talke about for the 360 but if ps3 comes out with a FPS that is a really good game you wont see much out of the 360 but who knows oh and the price is just fine. it is not too expensive because yo uare getting what you paid for and with the hdtv you need it for the 360 but with the ps3 you could use a regular tube and get the same experience you would with the 360 because blu-ray has a higher def anyway but with an hdtv oh its heavenly

    Because you are paying for a Blu-ray Drive which is not necessary for gaming. If it wasn't in, you would be paying around the same price as the 360.

    It's very simple...brand new just-released PS2 games cost $50, PS3 games will be only $10 more, for twice the graphics and much higher capabilities. After the games get old enough their prices will start going down just like Greatest Hits and every other game on PS2. Oh and finally, the Xbox 360 will not stand up to the PS3, since PS3 will own. It's a simple logic, why do you think it's more expensive? You get what you pay for, and it is predicted to be of higher performance anyway, and personally I think Nintendo should retire from the business lol.

    IMO i think that the prices arnt that bad. $60 for a game isnt that bad, considering the technology and hard work that goes into them. secondly if u believe the game is worth it then why care, i mean for the most part i have never regretted any game i ought with my own money, now if someone else bought it then they should care, but if u buy it and u want ot then who care what it costs. For instance MGS4 when it comes out, i will pay anything for that game, and i mean that im a die hard fan and it will be what i consider the game to change what game is and will be. again this is my opinion, and i dont really care for prices its just money.

    No, you don't. But you won't see how good the graphics really are on a normal TV, either. And certain genres (FPS primarily) playing at a higher resolution confers an advantage, provided the frame-rate is high/smooth.

    Anyhow - not surprised by the prices, glad they're not higher (BR discs are more expensive to make than regular DVDs). I think they can get away with a little bit higher for certain non-collectors' AAA games (maybe $65 for MGS, FFXIII, etc), but that's it (too much will bring up a backlash).

    yo cromwargod,when u say they look the same graphics,thats on 720p which is just standard tvs.when u will really see the big difference is when you get to see the graphics in 1080p,which is full high definition

    If you check price on EBgames.com, 59$ for PS3 games and 59$ for x360 games.
    By the way, I'm so happy to live in QC. The price will be only 69$CAD.

    Ithort third party was people that made mods and conversions of games and released them free. if im right i thinks i smell some more of the ass licking from gamespot lol. and $60 thats £32 o luk thats cheaper then the current 360 first party o and its $59.99 for first party, me thinks cod 3 is first party so for release you looking at £30-40 for a game thats not that bad, take a look at some 360 games next time you go hmv or game, some r still selling for £50, for the US that would be $95, see how much we are getting riped off.

    *wipes sweat off forehead* Man, I though they would be $80 or somethin'. I'm willing to pay $10 more dollars if they keep makeing games that look as good as Assassin's Creed. Are you guys aware that the PS3 games look the same as on the 360?? Read the COD3 article when they compared the 2 versions. Is the PS3 still worht $200 more than the 360?? Not to me...

    Expensive, but still good, coz you have to think about what game you buy and not do "buying sprees". And I know that the game price is going to drop in the future - hey it's a fkin RELEASE DATE price.

    normal blue-ray player cost 1000+ so PS3 as blue-ray player alone is good deal for me. able to play the game just a plus, and i dont think i will buy that many game. for all those years i own my PS2 i play DVD more then game and most likely i would do the same with PS3

    as most ppl say disc only can play in one machine but not the other; i dont think sony able to do that. in order to do so they either have a blue-ray writer which write down PS3 ownership on the disc itself . or they create a database tracking every blue-ray and PS3

    I know Sony has to make their money back on the units, but it's kind of a bummer that the cost of games goes up as a result. $39.99 sure was a great price point during this last era. I hope they don't stay that expensive once they start making some money back. The prohibitive cost of everything related to the PS3 makes me not want to buy one, even though it'd be great to have one!

    There's some good lookin stuff on the PS3, but I'm going to have to wait until the console comes down to the $300 range and load up on the inevitable greatest hit games for (hopefully) $40. The cost of gaming on any platform is our of control; a wii with 2 games (not including wii sports) and three more complete contolers is gonna be over $550 with tax. Let's not get on the PS3/XB360. I dropped over $700 on XB360 launch day... I shudder to think what a complete PS3 hook-up is gonna cost.

    Not a hope in hell that will happen. Production costs will drop and the manufacturers will net more profit. The consumer won't benefit.
