TGS 06: Kaz Hirai video Q&A

EXCLUSIVE: Sony Computer Entertainment America's president lays out the US PlayStation 3 launch in detail at Japan's premier gaming event.

When it was announced that Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi would be delivering the keynote address at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, many of the Sony faithful were hopeful. Kutaragi's address would come nearly one week after Nintendo's tri-continental Wii press conferences, and many expected the executive to present a comprehensive presentation outlining the PlayStation 3 and its online capabilities.

Kaz Hirai speaks!

SCEA prez pumps up the PS3.

However, when Kutaragi took the stage at the Makuhari Messe convention center, he laid out his "big picture" vision for the PlayStation 3. He promised it will be much more than a mere gaming machine and will be able to perform many functions of the PC--shopping, banking, online security--sometime down the road. However, besides a few trailers for games such as Ridge Racer 7, Virtua Fighter 5, Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight, Final Fantasy XIII, and the mysterious Afrika, the presentation had few new revelations about the PS3's looming launch.

Luckily, GameSpot was invited to Sony's headquarters for an exclusive chat with Kaz Hirai, Sony Computer Entertainment America's garrulous president and CEO. There, he outlined Sony's preparations for the PS3's North American launch on November 17.

After reannouncing that the addition of HDMI high-definition video to the 20GB PS3 would be worldwide, Hirai delivered some not-so-welcome news. The Japanese price drop of the lower-end console--which knocked it to just 49,980 yen--won't be extended to North America, where the 20GB PS3 costs $499 and the 60GB PS3 costs $599.

Hirai also said there would be a "nice portfolio" of first- and third-party titles at launch in both Japan and North America. However, he also hinted that the 2006 PS3 titles might come in waves. "I think now," he said, "the thing for everyone from first-party to third-party to do is to take a look at their portfolio of PlayStation 3 launch titles to say, 'Which one is day one? Which one are we launching a week after the console launches, which one right before holiday? For Christmas?'"

The executive also predicted a steady flow of PS3 releases into January 2007. "One of the most important things is to make sure not only you have a great lineup of software titles on day one, but you also want to make sure the platform stays fresh by having a great software title come out week two, week three, and certainly after the holidays are over in January as well," said Hirai.

Ken Kutaragi

The "Father of PlayStation" chats briefly.

The SCEA CEO also shed some light on how users will set up their PlayStation Network Platform accounts. "From day one as you take the PlayStation 3 out of the box and you're connected to the Internet, you're able to first and foremost do the important things, like registering your ID and picking your online name," he said.

Hirai continued: "After that as you enter the online world, we're talking about the ability obviously to play online games--games with people across town, across the country, and sometimes across the world. That also means taking advantage of the rankings of the game, taking advantage of the lobbies for the game, and finding other people who want to play the same game."

Hirai also outlined how the console will be able to download nongame content. He promised that PS3 owners would have the ability to download "a variety of other content in the digital space, for example music, and/or video material--all of those things we'll make available basically free of charge to consumers," he said. However, he then said premium content will be sold via "microtransactions--so the downloading might be free, or in some cases, that will be for a fee."

Hirai went on to reemphasize that the PS3's video and audio chat capabilities would essentially be gratis. "We'd like to make sure that some of the basic community and communication functions is done for no charge at all," he promised.

Perhaps most importantly, Hirai said that, despite the fact that it was not shown off at TGS, the PlayStation Network Platform will be online from "day one" of the PS3's launch in every territory. "Most if not all of the functions I've talked about will be available day one to the consumers as they first take the PlayStation 3 out of the box."

Hirai also reiterated that Sony "is expecting" to have 400,000 PS3s in the North American market for the console's "launch time period." As for resupplying US retailers, Hirai said, "We'd like to manufacture and ship out of factories upwards of 1 million units [for North America] by the end of the calendar year." Worldwide, Sony has said it plans on manufacturing 2 to 2.4 million units, with the remainder going to Japan. (The console will not go on sale in Europe until March 2007.)

However, the executive quickly qualified his statement by saying that not every PS3 made will make it to America by the time the ball drops in Times Square. "Not all of it will be on retailer shelves; some of it will be on a boat or a plane on its way, which will make it into retailers' shelves in the New Year," he said. To prevent shortages, Sony is planning to "ramp up production as quickly as possible" and ship many PS3s via air freight.

Hirai also confirmed that, per the "overwhelming" request of retailers, the "bulk" of PS3s being shipped to North America would be of the 60GB variety. "Retailers think the initial consumers who buy the PlayStation 3 want to get it out of the box and onto the online environment as quickly as possible," he said. "That means they'll have a lot of fun downloading various content, so the bigger hard drive and the wireless networking lends itself to getting online very quickly."

UltFemale Gamer, the Wii has free internet access, and as you said, "the majority of ps3 does not." Technically this makes Wii the only free online system. Anyway, we have yet to see, Sony is known for not being hundred percent truthful to their claims.
Also, the 360 isnt fully backwards compatible, only about 250 games or so. BTW it's kinda hard to put a N64 slot into a DVD drive.

And didn't the Dreamcast have CD drives before PS1?

Anyway, back to the topic, Kaz Hirai loves the word "uh"... listen, he says it at least 50 times

I'll be getting a PS3 for sure because it has the games I want. I look back and watch how there are certian people who just seem to go with the fanboy flow. Right now, the nintendo people are bashing Sony because the PS3 is boasting its power. (yet there are plenty of good games for it). But nintedo people were bashing the PS1 when the N64 came out boasting power this and power that. Yet the PS1 produced plenty of good games. Then we have Microsoft people and Nintendo people bashing PS2 because the Gamecube and Xbox are stronger. Yet the PS2 produced so many good games. Now its Sony's turn to have a stronger system, and all of a sudden Xbox and Nintendo people are crying foul from the very same corner Sony was in and shouting that "its not about power or grapics, its about games!" Whats the deal? This time PS3 is gonna have, power, graphics, and games. But every system is going to be fun. Trust me, wether your sitting down with a Wii, 360, or PS3, and youre having fun, then you're really going to be to into the game to care about specs. Then we have the PC people who bash all the systems. Well I like me a good PC game every now and then on a super powerful upgradeable system, but sometimes its nice to have a game that is standard looking on every console of the same brand with the same amount of specs without worrying if you'll have to buy an upgrade for the next best title.

To each his own, but PS3 for me!

Funny how everyone is whining about the price of the PS3. As our dollar value increases, so does the costs for everything. 'Ohhh ps3 sucks cuz it's too expensive' If you don't have a job and you can't afford it, then that's your problem. But don't slash a system because of it's price. Last time i checked, the 360 and wii cost money to use the internet..whereas the majority of ps3 does not. Not only that, but to download your precious old games, costs about 24$ per 2400 points i believe. I HAVE all those old games, right now that i enjoyed..i paid money for them before. Why should i pay money again to get the same games? I'd rather spend that 24 dollars at bingo then buy games i already have again.

I'm watching nintendo fans squirm at the release of the wii...they honestly don't think it'll be that great. I'm hoping that the new games coming out for it will be good, otherwise..they might fall. sony is expensive. xbox is expensive. Most families will only be able to afford one or the other. Most young kids, will only be able to coax their parents to buy a wii cuz it's cheaper. For me, i love final fantasy, i love the rpg games on the sony..mgs, dmc..they are all returning to the system. not too mention oblivion comes out for ps3 as well. Blu-ray is an awesome peice of tech..but it's funny because HD-DVD is just a hoax. My friend's pc right now, with his 19.1" screen is the HD that they are ranting about. Now that's sad. All and all, quit cutting up the system just because it's expensive. With all the technology and new possiblities for games included in that system, you're lucky it doesn't cost 1000$! 600$ is a bonus for what that system is capable of. xbox and sony seem to be moving forward with their games...allowing longer games, more realistic gameplay and such. While i watch the Wii and nintendo seems to be grasping at straws of the past. The major bonus the wii has is being able to play all old console games. Last time i checked, the 360 and the ps3 are fully backwards compatible..allowing you to play the games you have already bought and paid for. The Wii makes u PAY again for the same games. Until my nintendo systems crap out, and i no longer can play the games i bought for, i won't even touch the Wii until i get money. I'll play other people's Wii's and such, but i won't buy one for myself. I will still with sony..since the majority of my games are ps1 and ps2.

So give it up kids. The prices will continue to increase. At least with sony, they'll have no added fees, their system already comes with everything. Or the majority anyway. The only problem i have with them, is that they stole ideas from the other consoles...however, last time i checked, all the systems have done that. Dreamcast with their cds, very similiar to the ps1 just more power...GC with their disks, only difference is they were mini...etc, etc.

Sony will do fine, they always do. If you can't afford one now, just wait a year then. Prices always drop.

one day i will have all three systems...but not for a long time. for now, i'm sticking with sony cuz i prefer the games on that system.

If it was left to sony.. i would expect another 1983 to happen all over again. Im just glad e.t isnt out on the ps3.. and im SOO glad other consoles are competing with differences, great differences.

Im not happy paying $600 for a freakin console.. $300.. $400 with some games.. but never $600.
If i wanted a massive media buff station, i wouldnt quibble. I dont want all the 360 addons. They are there for the insane xbox fan who has an xbox 360 and happens to have a couple of hd movies in mind and a hdtv to take advantage of it.. and then that purchase of the hddvd drive is cheaper than a hddvd player.

Sony however make you pay this before you even think about playing games as standard, i feel its a wrong move. Nintendo didnt charge you vast amounts because of their piracy stopping custom optical discs for the GC. So why sony have to is beyond me.

All this to push in another disc format? im glad there is competition!

All next-gen consoles seem great and the PS3 looks like it will edge all the other systems in the war but they said they would have 2 million consoles on launch not 400 000. If they keep lying then there going to have a lot of trouble winning.

I play my gaming notebook quite a bit. I don't play my X360 very much because the games that were good were very short. And why buy the so called, Great Xbox360 titles if theyre also on the PC, like, Quake4, COD2, Oblivion, etc. I payed about $1700.00 for the honor of having a gaming notebook, And it kicks the **** out of the performance of my X360. But still, my notebook doesn't have a Blu-Ray player, cant support full 1080P for my HDTV (I dont have HDMI), and They don't make GT for the PC. With the PC you always get what you want. If the game laggs then turn down a setting, but alot of the time I wish I could turn doen settings for my X360, because it laggs, but you cant do anything about it. If the PS3 really live up to the Hype (every game will be above 60FPS) then I'm going to get one, and love it.

People spend close to $2000.00 on a cell phone every year. It has next to no fuctionality except to talk and take crappy pictures, yet they still pay for it.

You pay $600-$1500 a year on cable. $600-$2600 on a cellphone, Over $1000 on a TV, yet you **** about a $500-$600 console that wont cost you anything in the long run?

I have a 360, I will be acquiring a PS3. I don't have more money than sense. I agree that these consoles are expensive.

For me its about priorities, I can afford these treats so I buy them, I don't buy things that I cannot afford using credit ! I have a HDTV and matching Home Cinema, I live within my means, my cloth is cut accordingly. These companies are big businesses that are seeking long term large profits. The PS3 will out price some consumers budgets, as far as most kids go with working class parents, forget it. Its too damn expensive !

We live in an age where credit and reckless consumerism is rampant ! If you want something then budget for it, save a little bit by bit. Any kids with family's that can't afford this then don't be upset and don't blame your parents. Get a Wii or something else. I come from a working class background, I had lot less than other kids at school when I grew up. I'm a grown man now and I have value of money, I also have nice possessions (within my means) and I paid honestly for all of them !

The PS3 will come down in price eventually, save/and or wait if you have to. Life isn't fair in terms of materialism, but when a child grows up to be a hard working, responsible adult with an appreciation of what is really important then thats worth more than any material, man made item.

Bottom line, regardless of age there will always be some something that appeals to all of us but costs too much. In this case the item in question will eventually become more affordable, if you have to wait then accept that.

I agree with swirskytheman as far as the pricing goes, I
don't agree on his method of his delivery.

I appreciate the frustration that comes with dealing with nay-sayers, and fanboyosis, yet if you let minor squabbles
like this get to you, it'll drive ya nuts!

You won't change anyone's mind while yelling your discontent!

As far as the price again, for what you get, it's pretty good!
Blu-ray players are about $1000, and you can't play games on it as well!

I'm also a PC'er, and getting THAT level of graphics to play
on your PC would be at least $400 for the video card by itself!

$600 ain't that bad of a price, and if you wait, it's sure to go down after awhile!

Its not my fault you cant afford it and ill be damned if i wanna hear you all complain about it. Get a job and make some money and please stop complaining about the price. Or if you wanna buy another system, buy it and dont tell everyone you are getting this system because the PS3 is too expensive. Just buy it and shut up!!!!!!!

    QUOTE from tharealdeal20xx
--"We can argue the pricing till we are blue in the face but it boils down to this... It does not cost the company that much money to make these machines, they sell high we buy they get rich and we get 10 years of enjoyment and do it all over again when a new system comes out?"--

Not true. Nintendo is the only system that is making money immediately upon launch of their new system. The components that comprise these systems are more expensive at launch because they're new and innovative. Over the years, the price for these components drops, as production is made more efficient by Sony and Microsoft, as well as the companies that provide them with parts. They sell these products at an initial loss to gain a foothold in the market, usually turning a profit after a year or two. It takes longer still for them to receive a significant profit.

I think it's great they are only selling the 60 gig high end version that will sway people away from trying to buy more than one and profit off of the second at ebay, not everyone has 600 bucks a pop to just throw down hoping it's going to make them a 400 dollar profit.

First and formost, I hear a lot of crap about the 600 dollar price point. but lets break it down, the ps3 is a vaul. I recently bought an xbox 360, and i plan on buying a ps3 when it comes out. I bought the top end 360 which goes for 400 bucks, i then had to buy i wireless game adapter wich goes for a 100 bucks. so that brings teh total up to 500 buck, secondly is the fact that you have to buy recharable battery packs for teh 360 at a cost of 20 bucks a pop. so lets just say that the total cost of my 360 for less then what i would get stock with the 600 dollar ps3 is 520 out the door. Now the ps3 has a 600 dollar price tag, but lets break it down again. 60gig hd, (360 only come with one that has 12gigs free out of the box) built in wi fi, a bluetooth controler that is recharable, and an optical drive that can play blu ray hd movies, so for 80 bucks more then i paid for MY 360 system i get 48 more gigs and a next gen optical drive. Sounds like a deal to me, consider the chepest blu ray player is a GRAND.

I dont like the sound of "air freight" being used to transport heavy ps3 consoles.
It will cost sony ALOT more than sending via ship. And can you imagine if the weather got so bad over christmas, that the air freights were snowed in the airports?

Crossing via ship is the best means for heavy cargo in adverse weather. Not aircraft. And christmas by no means has the most predictable "nice" weather. Check out Cast Away lol

seriously though.. that statement about "launch time period" not launch day doesnt sound too promising.
If nintendo can get a launch looking right, im sure sony can. Not sure why everythings gone the way it has.

Paragraphs 12 & 13, Ok, so now its 400k for the "launch time period" not launch day but "launch time period" plus another million by Dec. 31st, but not really because they will be on planes and ships and being dogsledded over the north pole and Santa will be bringing some over by reindeer and the Keebler elves will be warehousing some in that big 'ol tree they all live in, Plus magical faries in Happyland are lending a hand in the production and as we all know Happyland infrastructure makes getting them here a challenge sometimes. Why is itso hard for these guys to admit that they just dont know how many will be in north america by "launch window". Even though i know the smart money will hold out for a year or more to get a price drop, better quality systems and more software, the gamer in me wants to sell the dog, skip a mortgage payment and camp out overnight at BB to get one on day one. It's going to look so cool sitting there next to the Wii and the 360.

SO.. anyways.. enough with the whole "aahh! grimbee thinks not!" and "grimbee thinks UmonDaisuke is a fanboy".

    Getting back on topic..

"Hirai also confirmed that, per the "overwhelming" request of retailers, the "bulk" of PS3s being shipped to North America would be of the 60GB variety."

If i was getting a ps3 on launch, i would be well peeved. Because it eliminated the choice of your budget. I mean, what if you were all out for sony, and only had enough moola for the second rate console? Its going to be tough finding one. I think sony should offer 50 50 of the consoles, and then find out which one sells the most. Instead of making the most expensive one, the norm.

Its kinda like if the 360 released far more premiums than core systems. Its leaving out a large portion of the audience who would buy a 360.

I am getting a ps3, but not until next christmas, because i think that the games MAY proove the ps3's price by then, and also whether i would benefit from the $100 extra version or not.
As a ps3 fan, its a hard time of year because of the shortage. And i think there will be far more on ebay rather than in peoples homes.

If i was an american.. i would get a ps3 for $600.. sell it in the UK for £800.. considering there IS NO UK LAUNCH TIL MARCH.. and and then i would of completely doubled my money.
I just think the launch isnt enough for the sony fans around the world.. and i dont think there is a large enough market for a $600 console. The 400,000 will sell out.
But once the year creeps on, and the wii games become more fruitful.. and the 360 gets more and more games.. i think that $600 is going to be FAR too much for the ps3 to take over the ps2's track record.

I think the ps3 is ideal for what it does, its evenly priced for what it does too (hd movies etc). I just dont think its a good strategy on sonys part. Releasing a primarily media playing console and forcing people to pay over the odds for it isnt going to go down so well.
If people dont think this, then im happy for ya. Its just my point of view.. i HOPE that people can understand this now LOL

Umondaisuke.. dont even TRY to challenge the mighty GrimBee..

"For a $600 console, i would expect more excitement from an obviously underpowered and cheaper wii console."

That is what i said. Did i say anything about if the ps3 was $300, i wouldnt get it?
    Heck no.
I said, and stated TWICE, that for $600.. for games which TO ME arent as exciting as say some other games on offer, and cheaper.. its quite a hard sell.

I said nothing about any disstaste for those titles. I just said for $600 they dont SEEM to be ENOUGH. Because comparing screens and videos of say resitance fall of man, to gears of war. sonic the hedgehog.. to sonic the hedgehog..
The 360 seems to be offering a very graphically similar experience to the DOUBLE price ps3.

And i refer to the $600 because that is the one which will be avaliable the most.
Try and at LEAST point your fanboyish comments towards someone less intelligent that you. You are basically saying to me "You're merely stating an opinion based on preference that you think that there are games of better quality on the other two consoles. "

What.. am i threatening to you perhaps... so threatening that my mere point of view could greatly change an industry?
I was telling you MY point of view, then you say yours.. then have a go at me for havign a point of view..
Everyone has a personal preferrence.. otherwise known as "point of view".. "choice".....

I like to voice my "opinions" on what others have to say. Its quite simple really.
But like, add this to your post?? what is this a GrimBee bashing contest?

"Based on your rant that reveals your distaste for the games themselves,"

My excat words were "For a $600 console, its not as impressive as i thought. Im not saying the games are crap. Im just saying $600 is a lot to chew for a couple of games"

Oh yeah, if you cryptically encode those letters, you may find the words "i hate metal gear solid and virtua fighter 5" in there somewhere..

Oh wait, you cant? Thats because you are a fanboy with nothing left to do but insult me by saying things i didnt even say!!

My POINT of this is - I think for $600, its expensive. And for the games coming out on launch for it, i thought $600 meant BETTER games.. or MORE choice.. So far im unimpressed with the CHOICE of games. And for $600 i would like to have plenty of games in their multitude.
But it seems, that i can get a 360, for less.. and have a very similar gaming experience.

Not one time did i bash the ps3.. im actually GETTING a ps3 at some point. FANBOY! And basically, my thoughts are about the launch, and the upcoming year.

With regards to the ps2.. the ps3 isnt going the ps2's direction. Its quite clear. And i would expect the choice of games from the ps2 to the ps3 to be quite different aswell.
Considering the market for a $600 is small ANYWAYS. And typically the average console which will be sold IS the $600 version.

Take your biased "i hate grimbee, i love sony" comments to another place. I was NOT referring to people who had preferrences. If i was, it was unintentional.. and its basically hard NOT to say something against someones preferences.
Try moaning at the other 50 odd people, or yourself even, about having a preference. See how they respond.
This entire section is about posting our THOUGHTS. So i posted my THOUGHTS. Did i say anyone was wrong? did i say the ps3 is crap? not at all, but you think i did.

Any fanboy just has a point of view, and says to someone about having a point of view.. to not have one.. and then skip off and feel like they have won something.

My point of view, whether this clashes against your personal preferences is another thing.. is that I THINK THE PS3 IS OVERPRICED FOR A GAMES CONSOLE, AND THE CHOICE OF GAMES ISNT AS GOOD AS I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE FOR A $600 CONSOLE.

Not once did i say i didnt like the games, not once did i state that If the ps3 was $300 i still wouldnt buy it... when the heck did i say that columbo?

"Still doesn't make the PS3 inferior simply because you think so"

Did i ever say it was inferior? geez man, try and get at least SOME evidence on me.. I said it was overpriced and i THOUGHT it offered more than what ive seen so far.
And why the heck are you commenting about me posting thoughts about thoughts? Its what these comments are for. I think the ps3 is far too overpriced for a number of reasons. You like to point out things against me.. yet you slate ME for doing that against other peoples points of views!
Absolutely makes no sense why you would do that. If you are so concerned about the ps3.. dont post about what i say. If you feel you have some proof or thoughts that might change the way i think, post away, i may see the light..

Take this for a last example "You're merely stating an opinion based on preference that you think that there are games of better quality on the other two consoles. Still doesn't make the PS3 inferior simply because you think so."

Uh.. yeah i was merely stating an opinion. I didnt say i wasnt. I didnt directly say "hey nobody is allowed to have a personal preference" i wasnt attacking that, i was saying my point of view against theres. I was stating an opinion, not puposefully attacking someone.

and yeah, i do think that the competition is fierce between the 360 and the ps3. Any fool could see that. Why i would simpyl sit back and say "sony rules" is crazy. I am open minded, but i am cautious of how i spend my money.

I bought a psp with the thought of having the BEST games, the BEST experiences.. yet a ds sells more, a ds has better games (better reviews overall aswell) and the hardware is cheaper.
If its my point of view to say "i think the ds is going to sell more than the psp this christmas" who the heck are you to say "ah, but thats youre opinion.. doesnt mean everyone thinks that".

Sheesh! I didnt think everyone DOES think that. But its funny that most gamespot votes, forums, topics in their majority.. even market analysts dont think that the ps3 will sell HUGE amounts like the ps2. Just because i say what i think.. doesnt mean it will happen. Cant believe you thought that would happen and felt the need to remind me!!

So yeah.. dont make me your personal martyr for the sony corporation. Everyone has a point of view. I said mine, but dont know why you felt the need to remind me that my point of view wont change the world.

    "johndoe1893
PS3 will win in Japan and maybe in Europe (and thats a big maybe.) But the Xbox360 will win in the States, with the Ps3 not too far behind. Sony doesnt understand that 37 million Americans live below the poverty line. Not too mention high gas prices, job losses and outsourcing, high taxes and fighting two wars. Even the middle class american is struggling. The PS3 will sellout at launch like most consoles due. The real test for sony will come months after launch. I predict its going to be a big uphill battle for sony after launch. Expect the real trouble to start after launch.. Dun dun dun"

That kind of made me laugh a bit. If 37 million Americans are below the poverty line, an Xbox 360 is out of their price range, so it's really a non issue. Who cares about 37 million people that can't afford when there are 260 million that can? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Large_Soda.-----who said the 260 million were well off americans???did you forget about all the layoffs ? Ford is in the process of laying off nearly 30, 000 jobs. (that the size of a small town!) not to mention GM, and Chrysler....and that just the auto industry. We are definitely paying the price for a War nobody seems to completely understand. Let's be real....Sony will sell rougly 2 million units over time to include at some point, a price drop on their hardware in America....so throw out the huge population numbers.....How many of the potential 2 Million consider this a good buy? Time will tell. But if current buying trends and Layoffs continue...I serisouly doubt any cautious consumer will run out and buy a product (fans excluded) solely because it's available.......

Good point, forsaken779. I would assume everyone is aware Playstation 3 is a product of Japan. One would also have to consider the duties/taxes and other customs related fees that apply to importing into the U.S. - I believe this may be why the U.S. is still receiving the originally pojected price tags of $499 and $599. As far as the ongoing PS3 vs. X360 debate goes: I believe all three next-gen platforms will offer a great and unique gaming experience for gamers. Do I think Playstation 3 is better than XBOX 360? Not necessarily. Computationally, Playstation 3 will transcend all available platforms. Agree or disagree, this is invariably so. X360 and Wii will ammend for this through offering some of the best next-gen titles. Regardless, I look forward to experiencing all that is Playstation 3.

wow it can be kindda funny to watch everyone complain. I'll be getting all the systems i have an x box 360. but i can't wait to get a ps3. i gotta love all the people saying oh the graphics are no better than 360 or they play like ps2 games yet none of you played them how the hell do you know? so far all i read from tgs 06 was all extremely possitive for ps3. and lastly i love the people who complain that now the "japs" as they put it will get it cheaper than us but they never bother to research if they did they would realize our money and theirs works different even if they're paying $429 it still all evens out in a way they're paying $499 look up currency exchange it'll make sense you can bash me and call me a fanboy or whatever but it wont make much sense considering i'll have all three systems sitting in my living room by december at the lattest

I wasnt referring to people who had preferences.

You weren't, I was, and merely saying that people, including youself have preferences that drive their purchases. You think that the PS3 isn't worthy, others beg to differ, and think that the PS3 is worth the money at this point, despite being expensive. Your current comment still fits the bill and backed up my comment. You're merely stating an opinion based on preference that you think that there are games of better quality on the other two consoles. Still doesn't make the PS3 inferior simply because you think so.

Refering to the $600 version now is pointless, since the difference between the two versions is now negligable with HDMI standardized. $500 is it, and it's still expensive, much like $400. Based on your rant that reveals your distaste for the games themselves, if the PS3 were priced at $300, you'd still not be interested. That's my general point, and again, your various comments back it up. Thank you
