Armored Core forges spring release

Mech-based combat game from Chromehounds developer lumbers onto Xbox 360s, PS3s next spring; details coming later.

From Software loves giant battling robots. The developer has created the mech-combat game Chromehounds for the Xbox 360, a handful of Armored Core games, and the Japanese game Metal Wolf Chaos, which sees a fictional American president hop into a giant set of battle armor and deliver a thousand hollow points of light into enemies invading the US.

Today, publisher Sega and From Software announced that Armored Core 4, which was briefly mentioned at last year's Tokyo Game Show, will come to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in spring 2007.

The date is news, as previous reports had the Xbox 360 version releasing this year, and the PS3 edition was given the nebulous "To Be Announced" release date. No further details were announced.

I would still rather play it on the PS3... if I owned one.... Online play doesn't require an annoying subscription fee. Which is the reason I still haven't bought Chromehounds...

WoW Armored core has always been a playstation exclusive. Loved the game for the ps1 and 2 and its subsequent sequels. Its big news thats its coming to the 360 makes you think. What next MGS4? I don't particularly like MGS but the shift to the non-sony platform is surpising while also excititng Finaly AC will get better online on the system with the superior online service, heres hoping for co-op and a better tuned version of the Chromehounds online mode. Imagine being able to take missions as a raven in a semi-persistant online arena.

One they do need to fix control slightly. Keep some controls but use the fluidness for the 2nd Runner.

Secong what happened to the Nov. launch? If u want proof go to gametrailers.com and find AC4 and watch "God is Forcs" trailer.

Forget the From Software webpage. They just told Gamespot/eveyone at TGS that it was coming out to '360 and PS3 this spring. There was never any official cancelation of the '360 version, its just not mentioned on the From Software website (which is what started the rumour).

Gosh, I wonder who's correct; Tim Surette, who's actually in Tokyo, or some highschool kid sitting at home? Oh yeah... probably... um... Tim "get these motherf*cking snakes off this motherf*cking game show" Surette!

BOOM HEADSHOT! I AM THE MOON MASTER & YOU'RE NOT!
    *does the happy dance*

So I dunno... maybe you're just calling the From Software guys liars? Or that they don't even know what consoles they're releasing games for?

Anyway, why care if it comes out on both? Its not like it hurts you (PS3 & '360 owners) if it comes out on 2 consoles. What, is it that you don't feel special unless its exclusive or something? Man, fanboy-ism is dumb.

    Armored Core = sllloooooowwwww mechs
ZOE = fast mechs with tons of boosters

all i ever wanted of this series is for them to change the style control of the game like zone of the enders fast and understandable

  • smbius

    Posted Sep 21, 2006 4:14 pm PT

I like the AC series and Chromehounds but these games hardly hold a candle to the Mechwarrior series.

  • Chirico_Cuvie

    Posted Sep 21, 2006 4:00 pm PT

AC needs to be completely revamped and finally go online (worldwide) to get people interested in it again. This series has been stagnant for years. From knows their stuff, they're just too complacent to change since the fanboys buy every damn AC game that gets released. They should do a Chromehounds-type game but use the designs from AC, Done! Frame Gride for the DC was a nice departure, but with only one-on-one battles it got old fast. I'd love to see that series make a comeback. It seems every game the company makes is ALMOST there, but lacks one or two features of becoming a major hit.
AC: same game since the PS1.
King's Field: a unique series that is all but forgotten.
Murakumo: played it ten years ago, it was called Burning Soldier.
Chromehounds: pretty good for a new series. Let's beef up the single player and add some variety in the units.
Frame Gride: great presentation and very unique designs, 2-player Vs got old real fast.

They better make a good story line for this one and not countine to ruin the game like they've been doing, and if it goes onto the xbox they MUST do a good job on the online portion of the game.

The Playstation 3 has had a HUGE number of game cancellations

Why do people keep saying that? The PS3 had as many cancellations as any other consoles, proportionnally. People just like to point them out more than others. PS2 is the console that had the most cancellation (PC aside), it still has a huge library.

i've played the last three Armored Core games, and it's been disappointment after disappointment. The Armored Core name could be on the ropes if AC4 doesn't restore it to it's former glory, which I'm hoping for.

Thankfully, Armored Core 4 will be released for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. The Playstation 3 has had a HUGE number of game cancellations and major delays. I am glad that the rumors of the Xbox 360 version being cancelled in Japan are false. Hopefully, the Xbox 360 version of Armored Core will improve all of the versions that G4 has been saying have continued to get worse and worse on the Playstation 2.

"Wow, lots of reasons to get an xbox 360 over a PS3... Where has exclusitivity gone this generation?"

Let's not steer the comments off topic, shall we? The system exclusives for both consoles are there, and it takes very little research to find out what they are.

Going by Sega's press release, it seems that the PS3 exclusivity is for the Japanese market. That's the end of that.

Man, honking slow moving mech games suck! You need the fast paced arcade ones with two joysticks and an actual cockpit. Otherwise, mech games are slow and tedious.

  • UmonDaisuke

    Posted Sep 21, 2006 1:26 pm PT

mills, it's been the same game all along; you're getting it confused with the Gundam games on each system. Also, the bit didn't come from Famitsu, it was from From's own site. So the cancellation may have very well been for the JPN market if Sega's press release does in fact mention a 360 version (and the game's official JPN site only lists one system).

  • ultimate_zero

    Posted Sep 21, 2006 1:18 pm PT

hmm...I wonder which version is gonna be better, I'm thinking the PS3 version since its more powerful.

  • millsaquo

    Posted Sep 21, 2006 1:09 pm PT

Also at some point it was known that Armored Core was a very different game on both systems. Different teams, different gameplay, different graphics. Perhaps the 360 version was indeed cancelled - to put full force into the PS3 game and then put it on both systems. Afterall its becoming pretty clear that both machines can handle very similar things.

  • UmonDaisuke

    Posted Sep 21, 2006 1:03 pm PT

"obviously it hasn't been cancelled on 360 since they mentioned it in the press release"

The press release from SOA could've simply mentioned AC4, and it was assumed that it's for both versions. Mistakes happen. Or perhaps the Japanese 360 version was cancelled since Zin may have been referring to that market alone.

  • millsaquo

    Posted Sep 21, 2006 1:00 pm PT

No offence guys, but I'd trust a news announcement from gamespot about a 360 version before that 'cancellation' report. If you recall that news came from a US website, from a US writer, which he'd read in a Japanese interview from famitsu. The same place where they 'confirmed' Devil May Cry 4 for the 360, and said the ps3 Ninja Gaiden was a sequel (when its infact the xbox version again, with extras). The problem is most of these famitsu articles in the west are broken by people who do not neccesserily speak japanese, and get their facts wrong.

From's CEO Naotoshi Zin mentioned that the 360 version was cancelled just about two weeks ago.

The game has hardly been briefly mentioned though. It's been covered in Famitsu numerous times, and was slated to be released alongside the PS3 in November, but was delayed until early December.
