Ooh la la: Ubisoft assets exposed
Company says info leak could have "serious implications" for dev calendar; file said to contain information on unannounced games including next Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell.
Confidentiality and the Internet do not mix. Late last night, a savvy surfer discovered a 2GB file from Ubisoft's FTP site featuring assets and images that Ubisoft did not want to see go public. So what did the person do? He or she posted the information on the popular public gaming message board Gaming-Age Forums.
The forum roamers are having a field day with the information, working together to post the alleged screens and information as quickly as they can. Ubisoft, on the other hand, is anything but jovial.
In an official statement from Ubisoft, the company said, "We are clearly displeased that confidential information from Ubisoft has been distributed on the internet. The publication of this type of information can only be harmful to the game development process and we will take all steps necessary to prevent this from happening in the future. We are still investigating the events that lead to this information leak and at this time have no further comment."
The file has since been removed from Ubisoft's servers, but GAF member "element," who made the original post, listed the following games with assets in the file (taken verbatim):
Assassins Creed
Farcry 2
Farcry PSP
Farcry Wii
Lost
Naruto
OpenSeason
Prince of Persia
RB6: Vegas
Rocky PSP
Splinter Cell 4
Splinter Cell 5
Surf's Up
Star Wars PSP
Shaun White (Snowboarding game)
TMNT
TMNT GBA
Dissecting the thread yields some screenshots and concept art, as well as possible names for upcoming games like Splinter Cell Conviction and Naruto 360.
While Ubisoft has admitted the leak, the company has not confirmed any of the titles or information.
