FFXII Day declared in NYC

Times Square to commemorate latest Square Enix game on October 11; anticipated RPG playable at DigitalLife expo.

New York Final Fantasy fans readying that Tifa Lockhart cosplay outfit for Halloween may want to stitch a bit faster. Though the anticipated role-playing game Final Fantasy XII is set for release on October 31 in North America, Square Enix is giving fans a peek at the game a few weeks early.

The PlayStation 2 game will be playable at DigitalLife, a consumer electronics show that takes place in New York City between October 12 and October 15. Unlike the build available at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, the version of Final Fantasy XII appearing at DigitalLife will be the final, retail version.

To celebrate the launch of the game, which received a perfect score from Famitsu when it was released in Japan, New York City has declared October 11 Final Fantasy XII Day and will hold a special commemoration in Times Square. Part of the festivities will include a Final Fantasy costume contest, with winners joining Square Enix in New York on FFXII Day. Square Enix promises more information on the contest on its Web site.

Final Fantasy XII is rated T for Teen and will retail for $49.99. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

well , he IS the mayor after all and part of his job is to help the economy. I think putting some media focus on the expo for a big name like Final Fantasy and even getting fanboys to come spend money in the city is a good way to bolster the economy. No matter how crowded it is already, and no matter how much I disagree with many of the mayor's choices, the bottom line is that he's getting people to put their money into the city.

Bloomberg is a moron! he will pimp the NYC name for just about any crap he thinks will bring in more people into the city. He will do AIR day if he can make a buck off it.

okay everyone chill out. Ive been to the first two Digital Life expos and they were not as bad as some ppl make it out to be. First of all its the only show of its kind in the tri-state area so thats a huge plus to the hundreds of thousands of gamers who cant make it to stuff like e3. Sure theres ppl there to see celebrities but if you came to see tech, you'll sure as hell get your chance. As for this article, Mayor Bloomberg declared last October "Battlefront 2" day when it premiered at DL. All they had was a press conference, some stormtroopers in Times Square, and a couple city buses with Battlefront 2 ads on them. Personally, I dont mind the hype and , as a gamer, I'm looking forward to this year's show (even if they only have mainly Xbox's AGAIN).
