F.E.A.R. expansion demo out now

Gamers get first taste of F.E.A.R. Extraction Point; demo features multiple levels and the new minigun. Exclusive screenshots inside.

Though most frightfests are reserved for the trick-or-treating events at the end of October, Vivendi Games and Sierra Entertainment are putting the scare into gamers a bit early.

In preparation for the launch of F.E.A.R. Extraction Point, the expansion for the PC first-person shooter F.E.A.R., Sierra has released a single-player demo for the game. The file is now available for download from GameSpot Downloads. In the demo, gamers shoot their way through a few levels of the game and sample some of the game's weapons, including the new minigun.

F.E.A.R. Extraction Point is currently in development by TimeGate Studios and is scheduled for release on October 24. Though the demo of Extraction Point is stand-alone, the retail version will require a copy of F.E.A.R.

Extraction Point is rated M for Mature and will retail for $29.99. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

Well, I've played throught this thing twice and I have to say, I was freaked out. Like I jumped in the beginning of the demo just fine, slaughtering those soldiers left and right. I got a little too trigger happy with the minigun and got killed cause I shot instead of healed, but I made it through the second time.
And then it happened. I went into "The Blood Room." When those guys killed me the first time, I didn't move from my chair. Even now, I keep looking over my shoulder. The full original game made me paranoid after two days. The demo to the expansion made me paranoid about 3/4 of the way into it. The developers of this game rock, and I curse them now, cause I won't be sleeping for quite some time.

Looks like it will be as good as the original. SHORT demo, but brought back a lot of good memories from the first one. I will haft to play it though again. I am going to pre-order tomorrow if possible. I saw no slow downs at all, ran perfect.

    Meh ..........
Meh, nothing. This game has pure movie magic. When I got to the office area with on-coming enemies the chaingun tore the place to bits. Dust and sparks flying, objects, and structures shattering and chipping, computers exploding, enemies flying back, limbs exploding off! All you could think possibly could happend. And similar to what the developer said, the awkward silence at the end of a Western movie shoot-out with a tumble weed rolling by. Being that all that has previously happened in the room is still realistically reacting to the event that just occurred.

why don't they make expansions stand alone? I don't want to have to reinstall FEAR just to play the expansion. response: Well, really my response would be that the game is already so great, that it doesn't need a stand alone expansion to prove how much better it can do. Rather add more things to make the game even better.

I have to say that I love how the computer community can get an announcement like this about a game that in all probably might look better than any console release this year and there is no fanboy fighting. I love my 360 and I will get a ps3 eventually, but I love how PC games are basically word of mouth, no bs marketing campaigns. Just pure quality. This game and Dark Messiah with my newly installed windows x64 is just pain going to rock.

    GFofgaming & Amogly:

If you watch the gamespot interview, the developer does say that he has been listening to the community. He has already heard a lot of people comment on how most of the game was taking place in one place. Or places that look similar. To be honest, to have most of the game take place in one huge building, was pretty realistic. Since you were basically trapped and finding the best way out. Which would be hard if you reallyu only had one good way to get out. But, what I was about to say, is that the developer said there is some new environments included. like Subways and Churches. I am not sure, but he was also quiet about there possibly being some other very different environments. One of the biggest steps for the expansion is the total distructablility of the level surroundings, I don't know if this will be as affective as red Faction. But TimeGate Studios has worked to add much needed physics to the game. Because some things just didnt seem to react right to physics. Not to say that lowered the fun factor of the game. But, this is an expansion, so maybe it rewoeks some of the original game as well. The best part of the game is the hunter becomes the hunted.

P.S. Dryden555, you must experience the game as a whole before you say something like that. I don't agree.

Fear is a great game. Multiplayer is smooth, minimal lag compared to other games. Alot of people complain that they don't like the game; reason being their system can't handle it. Fear requires alot of horsepower for full enjoyment.

I am almost at the end of the first FEAR game. And have been enjoying the crazy ride through the beautifully and yet gory rendered scenery. I can't wait to get even more of the game. It's the best. Even Multiplayer.
