Activision has known for a while now that it had a hit in Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360. The World War II shooter was the top-selling game for the Xbox 360's launch, and has shown staying power on the system's sales charts after replenished stock put more Xbox 360s in gamers' living rooms. The publisher also reported earning nearly $1 million in revenue from downloadable COD2 maps alone.

Today, Activision can add another impressive feat to its COD2 dossier. Citing NPD Funworld figures, the publisher claims the Xbox 360 version of the game has sold more than 1 million units in North America. According to Activision Publishing executive vice president Robin Kaminsky, COD2 is the first Xbox 360 game to break 1 million units sold in North America.

Since the game's release in November 2005, COD2 had been the top-played Xbox 360 title over Xbox Live until Madden NFL 06 took over the top slot in late August, says Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb on his blog. Activision has also released a Call of Duty 2: Game of the Year Edition, featuring some new map packs and additional content.

Call of Duty 2 is rated T for Teen and retails for $59.99. For more information, read GameSpot's review.
