Sierra signs next Schafer game

Vivendi Games brand to publish the next game from Double Fine Productions; details on project still hush-hush.

Earlier this month, some Vivendi Games legal mumbo jumbo let slip that the publisher was in line to publish the next game from Double Fine Productions, maker of the lauded Psychonauts. While the SEC filing is almost as good as an official announcement, Vivendi would not comment on such a deal at the time.

Almost a week later, the company has confirmed the deal and has announced that the unnamed game will be under the brand of one of its subsidiaries, Sierra Entertainment. No details have yet surfaced on the game, and Vivendi describes it only as "a brand new creation."

"The Sierra team has been awesome to work with," said Tim Schafer, president and CEO of Double Fine. "Everyone we've met brings experience from a small developer background, so they know where we're coming from and what we have to do to make a great game."

Alien Vs Predator 3..... WHAT ARE YOU, FOOLS!

Tim Schafer would never lower himself to the level of making first person shooters if they weren't intellectual and humorous.

This is the guy who created Monkey Island and Psychonauts. He wouldn't do an untillectual game.

Who knows, maybe it's Monkey Island 5...

This looks awesome. I would look into any game by either one of these groups, but both together? You know it'll be original, funny, and most likely good.

Grim Fandango and Psychonauts are awesome games. If this new creation is as good as its predecessors then it's all thumbs up! Btw, it would be cool if they made Grim Fandango on the Nintendo DS.

I'm hoping to see some brand new stuff...hopefully sierra can buy the rights to Full Throttle 2 or have Tim make a whole new adventure game (i.e. Grim Fandango, Secret of Monkey Island, etc.). Tim is cool.

How does Homeworld have ANYTHING to do with this? Just beause it's a Sierra game doesn't mean they're making another one. I'm sure they're thinking more along the lines of adventure rather than stradegy, which is good because we have enough strategy games out there, but haven't had an actual classic-style adventure game released in the past decade. Sam and Max looks looks like it'll be coming out before any, but I'm glad to see them starting to home out of the woodwork again nevertheless.

Honestly, I haven't been excited about a game's release in the past 7 or 8 years because it's the same crap over and over - some mute, techno d**k with a really big gun. If adventure games start to be released again, I may actually buy a game.
