Oblivion, Getting Up win MTV awards

Bethesda's epic role-playing game and Atari's graffiti uprising actioner took home Moon Men at last night's Video Music Awards.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Marc Ecko's Getting Up don't share much in common, but the open-ended fantasy role-playing game and the antiauthoritarian graffiti rebellion game shared the spotlight at last night's MTV Video Music Awards.

Both games walked away from the VMAs with a Moon Man statuette in tow, Getting Up for Best Video Game Soundtrack, and Oblivion for Best Video Game Score. It was the first year MTV has honored gaming scores at its high-profile annual shindig. To claim the inaugural Moon Man in the category, Oblivion composer Jeremy Soule had to best the scores from Hitman: Blood Money, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, and Electroplankton.

The Getting Up soundtrack was no doubt helped in its VMA campaign by contributions from a number of big-name artists, including Sean "Diddy" Combs, the late Notorious B.I.G., Jane's Addiction, Eric B. and Rakim, and more. It beat out Fight Night Round 3, Burnout Revenge, NBA 2K6, and Driver: Parallel Lines to win the soundtrack category.

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for the Xbox 360 is one of the best games I have ever played. This game definitely deserved to receive the Game of the Year Award.

Funny thing is I kinda hate MTV now that I've gotten older and my taste has changed. I find the programming mostly annoying.
But MTV has redeemed itself somewhat with this. I like that they are recognizing video game music as REAL music and game music definitely deserves this recognition.
Some of it is even better than the crap out there like Justin Timberlake, Ashley Simpson, and Britney Spears. I'd much rather listen to the Chrono Cross soundtrack any day.

@ robowizard: Don't dismiss way2funny's comment so easily. The music in the main menu of Oblivion sounds a lot like the music in the main screen of Morrowind. It might be that it's a main theme for the elder scrolls series, but still. And yes, i checked it. Ran morrowind on my xbox and oblivion on my pc and although the theme in Oblivion sounds a lot better, i'm convinced it is the same piece.

The Oblivion sound track was good enough for me to download it. Hitman's sound track , I honestly don't remember it. It's nice to see that I wasn't the only one that recognized it was... shall we say, tight as sh*t.

Its good that a major corporation such as MTV actually acknowledge music from video games, instead of just looking to the usual places for giving out awards.

Big deal. Did they show this on the broadcast, or was it something that was editted out? If it was shown on the broadcast, then I guess that's pretty cool.

Lets hope games continue to improve audio quality and ingame music. Also I think Oblivion is a wonderful game and a credit to the makers. Ppl say Oblivion isnt as good as the 'hype' and is worse than the previous installment. What Oblivion does so well is make a game that almost anyone can enjoy. To do that I guess they had to make it more casual but try to keep the series and its reputation alive still. Oblivion gives the player so much choice in how they want to play. Im sooo tired off ppl saying 'teleporting' from location to location is dumb and ruins the game. At least the choice is there! Most ppl i kno cant stand walking from place to place. Oblivion may seem shallow and weaker to some of its fan base but the depth is there if you want to find it! Read the literature and go and role-play to your hearts content. The game has evolved to a growing market and you cant fault them on it. I hope more games offer the quality of choice that is becoming so rare. Well done 'Bethesda'...well deserved

" I agree with samasama, hitman blood money was better hands down, oblivion had some of the same music from morrowind."

The fact that your evidence backing your opinion is, in and of itself, false, strips away the legitimacy of your logic.

Rapper's =Mr-T and mike jackson for kids of 1999-2006.

When they look back on these videos 20 years later they will see how sad rap and hip hop really is.

Duh, it's pretty simple, MTV goes after kids right? Well, what excites kids more than happy meals at mcdonalds? You guessed it. Even though this is about a music channel that knows nothing about video games.
