Oblivion, Getting Up win MTV awards
Bethesda's epic role-playing game and Atari's graffiti uprising actioner took home Moon Men at last night's Video Music Awards.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Marc Ecko's Getting Up don't share much in common, but the open-ended fantasy role-playing game and the antiauthoritarian graffiti rebellion game shared the spotlight at last night's MTV Video Music Awards.
Both games walked away from the VMAs with a Moon Man statuette in tow, Getting Up for Best Video Game Soundtrack, and Oblivion for Best Video Game Score. It was the first year MTV has honored gaming scores at its high-profile annual shindig. To claim the inaugural Moon Man in the category, Oblivion composer Jeremy Soule had to best the scores from Hitman: Blood Money, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, and Electroplankton.
The Getting Up soundtrack was no doubt helped in its VMA campaign by contributions from a number of big-name artists, including Sean "Diddy" Combs, the late Notorious B.I.G., Jane's Addiction, Eric B. and Rakim, and more. It beat out Fight Night Round 3, Burnout Revenge, NBA 2K6, and Driver: Parallel Lines to win the soundtrack category.
