Warhammer demo slammed down
Single-player sampling of THQ's Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade available from GameSpot.
Those who like real-time strategy games (and titles with multiple colons) got some good news today. The single-player demo for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade is now available from GameSpot.
Dark Crusade is the second expansion to the PC real-time strategy game Dawn of War, following 2005's Winter Assault add-on. The new expansion adds two new races to the ongoing ruckus, the undead Necrons and the techno-savvy Tau.
The demo, a 315.9MB file, gives gamers a quick run-through with the game's tutorial. After moving past the training wheels, players can then take on two single-player missions.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade has not yet been rated or priced and is scheduled for release on October 9. For more information on the expansion, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

Lost the first skirmish trying to figure out how to play the Tau. And the generator being in a different spot threw me for a loop : p
Second skirmish I tried an experiment. Sent out 8 stealth suits each to a different resource and after I had found the enemy base I would send each suit down to the edge of the enemy base. Built listening posts as points were captured and reinforced the S-Suits with the aquired resources. This ended up with the space marines unable to get any resource points and they kept building scouts to do so and by the time they made a commander unit my suit force was upgraded and fully reinforced...
Not underpowered in my opinion and I don't know how I would set-up to fight it. Yeah, one on one, knowing I was fighting the Tau I could plan for it....but in a blind game not knowing your enemy's race right away I dunno what I'd do.

And a question. Did anyone else playing the demo think that tau stealth suits are underpowered?

The full game is going to kick a**, no doubt, but I think to much stuff was locked in the demo. No devilfish?! Its the only transport vehicle the Tau have, and it is locked!
I was surprised, however, that the vespids are in the game, although they are also locked in the demo. I am definitely getting this game dude!

Have to say this game looks pretty sweet. The Tau offers a much juicer side to play than the weakly and slow to start Imperial Guard. The cannibalism button on the Kroot is a seriously nice detail. Can't wait to play the Necrons.

Demo was good...good enough for me to preorder the game. That being said, I was a bit disappointed with the content of the demo...too much stuff was locked, and it would have been nice to be able to complete the 2nd mission.
I think it's going to rock...

The perfect way to stop the tau is to teleport in an assault terminator squad with an apothecary or a commander unit. 'Nuff said.

I've enjoyed the demo. The Tau seem really powerful at first, but I suspect they will balance it all out. I can't wait for the full version to drop.

I downloaded the demo and at frist the storyline clip got me alll hyped up. Then when it came down to playing I got dissapointed. I guess is the kind of game you either love or hate. The purpose is to movilize units to conquer strategic positions and so on. The zooming capabilities are not the greatest. Definetly I'm not getting this one.

The Tau are like the best side ever, finally a chance to mince those Khorne Berserkers (the worst unit ever, so stupidly uber) and Nob squads. Eat burning socialist plasma death melee imperlist dogs!

I liked the Demo. Tau seem very good, but can't pass judgment until all units are unlocked. However, with what I saw, the Tau are pretty kick butt. You need the Kroot though to do damage early on. Overall it's pretty good, and the Tau seem like a balanced edition. Now that Necrons and Tau are out...next should be the Dark Eldar, I wonder how that's going to be...

"They will ruin it by including both the monolith and the nightbringer and giving the option to field both at the same time. Those 2 units alone over power necrons in the tabletop game, and they will ruin it in this game."
The monolith is pretty good, but does not particularly overpower necrons. The nightbringer doesnt overpower them at all. It makes everyone scared but pretty much every army has a way to deal with it if you know what you are doing.

The Tau are better than I thought they would be. My only gripe is that they changed the Space Marine's Force Commander with a younger face, the old one seemed more realistic, but it's not a game-breaker. It's a definate must buy if you bought the previous DoWs.
