Codemasters announces Fall of Liberty

A new Second World War FPS title from the creators of Call of Duty: Finest Hour will see Nazis occupy America.

Ever wondered what Freedom Fighters would have been like with Nazis instead of Soviets? Gamers will soon get a chance to find out. Today, Spark Unlimited, the controversy-wracked studio behind Call of Duty: Finest Hour, announced a new first-person shooter called Fall of Liberty for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Fall of Liberty is set in an alternate history that sees famed prime minister Winston Churchill die in 1936--three years prior to the outbreak of World War II. Without his steadfast leadership, the Nazis overwhelm Europe and occupy Great Britain. Bolstered by its success, the German war machine then extends its reach across the Atlantic and invades the United States in 1951, occupying Washington DC and threatening Manhattan with nuclear attack.

Spark CEO Craig Allen commented that he wanted to give players "a realistic vision of an alternative world history...something radically different than typical WWII scenarios as the player is not cast as the liberator of Europe but as a defender of freedom in enemy-occupied America." The game will be the second alternate-history PS3 shooter: Resistance: Fall of Man, due this fall, takes place in an alien-occupied UK during the 1950s--after WWII never happened.

[UPDATE] Currently, Fall of Liberty is set for release in Q4 2007 in Europe and North America, where it is being published by British-based Codemasters. The announcement marks the second major recent deal for Spark, which just announced an agreement with Vivendi Games subsidiary Sierra Entertainment to publish an unnamed next-generation FPS with a "modern setting."

    This game's looking sleek! But I do recall them saying, "This game is DEFINATLY going to come out this year". Wish it was, I can't wait for this!

    Why do people want to play as the Germans? I don't I'd rather play as a resistance fighter since most games you play as a soldier and those are getting boring. Oh and I think I like this game a lot so I put it on my tracking list. When it comes out, which is on February 26, 2008, I want to go to Gamestop and buy this game.

    This Game looks cool. Why are people so offended by it. The point of alternate history is so we can see what the world would be like if something went differently. FoL does not offend me.

    hmm...the premise seems really interesting

    here's hoping that it rises above the glut of countless WWII shooters and makes an impact on its own

    Churchill wasn't the only leader who helped win WWII. Someone else would have taken his place, and could have even prevented the war. You never know.

    Plz dont tell me some of you americans are not happy with it becuase they have taken over the US O_o. You never know it may happen some day.

    This game sounds good, before i had even seen this game i throught what if russia fell, uk lost its air power and got taken over, then america was taken.
    But Hitlers wasnt intending on attacking so many countrys, He wasonly wanting to take back the countrys that had been taken away from germany. hehe end of my little lecture

    So. i guess the storyline is about us being a highly secret spy who is trained with the deadliest combat there is. Then we are set out to germany to kill Hitler If i get sued tommorow then i was correct

    Needs to be special for me not to just get my Freedom Fighters game out again, as I had a pretty good time with that game and a clone with Nazi's instead of Russians would not be enough for my gaming dollar.

    WOW.... the first actual interesting WW2 game other than the Brothers in Arms series...... im buying this for sure... i hope you play as the nazis, and hope fully at the end of the game theres something different like the bad guys actually winning for once... damn im tired of the good people always winning you need some variation if not it gets boring...

    Hmm. Interesting. Another game set in an alternate history similar to Freedom Fighters except that its Nazis instead of Soviets. It will be interesting to see how this will play out.

    It's a good thing this isn't a PS3 exclusive, like the other alternate-history game, Resistance: Fall of Man. We'll see how good it is and I might buy it on the Xbox 360 or PC.
