Disgaea PSP disclosed

Portable version of original PlayStation 2 strategy role-playing game to include new dungeons, characters, more.

Knife-wielding penguin henchmen that double as grenades. A rotten adolescent prince of darkness determined to rule the netherworld by hook or by crook. An open-ended structure that encourages players to keep playing the game and developing their characters long after the main storyline is finished. With components like these, it's not difficult to see how Nippon Ichi's PlayStation 2 strategy role-playing game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness became a cult classic when it was released in 2003.

While Nippon Ichi went on to explore other corners of the strategy role-playing niche with games like Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, and Generations of Chaos, the developer is now set to once again explore the depths of the netherworld. The company's follow-up, Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, hits stores in the US this week, and its domestic counterpart, NIS America, marked the occasion by announcing the series' first excursion onto the PSP.

Set for a November release in Japan, Makai Senki Disgaea Portable will bring the original PlayStation 2 game to the PSP with some added features. First off, there will be a number of new scenarios and dungeons, some of which will feature "characters that nobody would expect to see in Disgaea." As for the characters that one would expect to find in the game, they all return, along with their original voice actors, who are providing extra lines of dialogue.

While a US release hasn't been confirmed yet, NIS America has said it would like to bring the title over, and promised that it would add something special exclusively to the North American version of the game. However, the company is also asking for fan support to help get the game released domestically.

"Because Disgaea is an incredible fan favorite, NIS America is eager to bring Disgaea Portable to the US fans," the company said. "But in order to make it happen, we will need to prove there is enough support and demand for Disgaea Portable! So we would appreciate it if you could support us by raising your voice and making some noise for Disgaea Portable in the US!"

    i hope that they release this game in english version b'cause this game is really addictive.. i m sure of it most of the disgaea fans are looking forward to this game in english version including me.. disgaea is the BEST!!!!!!

    Although i know that You don't need a Japanese PSP to play Japanese games, i still think that the game should be released in North America.

    I'd love for this game to come out on the PSP! Disgaea was one of my all time favorite games and I'd actually drain the battery on my PSP playin this game. Rock on, bring Disgaea over!

    I played the game on the PS2 for more than 300 hours and I'm still playing it from time to time. It'll be great if they port it to the PSP. It's a master piece worth buying even without new contents, because it's PORTABLE!!!

    I, too would like it to reach over here as well because i dont own the original version though i may get both, let'sm hope that if it does make it that the lack of L2 R2 and load times don't ruin it.
    And all we have to do is support by making noise?

    Please!! You guyz must make the game!! The is a shortage of good strategy for PSP! This will be a great addition to some(less then 5 number; actually) great titles. Anyone whom had fun and enjoyment playing it on the PS2 and owes a PSP will be delighted and grateful to have Disgaea on the move. The fan base for the game is stable therefore chances of making good money from it is confirm. If there's any chance that 2 or more PSP owner can trade or even battle against each other will be a great bonus, it's also a good way to bring in more new PSP owners.

    I would give anything to play this game on the go. The only and I mean only downside to Disgaea is having to play it at home on the ps2. Oh man and extra stuff!!!! PLEASE release!!!!!!!!!!!

    PLEASE MAKE THIS GAME!! Need fan support? No problem! I just posted a blog on the G.A.P community (Gamer Advisory Panel) on Playstation.com. And told my fellows about this. I'm sure I'll get A LOT of comments about how people want this game to be made for the PSP! As viewtiful_joe99 said, this is a dream-come-true!

    This is a dream come true. I want disgaea but the $80+ prices are tough to swallow. And just the other day I was thinking about how much better SRPGS are on handhelds! Hopefully NIS America will release it here, which is very likely.

    Hmm, I've always wanted to play Disgaea but no stores ever had it in my area. Plus being always on the go, I play my home consoles less and less. Putting this game on the PSP addresses two concerns of mine in one shot, being able to finally play a deep strategy game that probably puts FFT to shame, and being able to play it wherever and whenever I want. I'm looking forward to this release and I hope it happens.

    Just bring it NIS America! I loved the PS2 version and I bought your Blade Dancer on the first day. I will do the same for this game if you bring it Stateside. RPG is much better on a portable, PSP or DS.

    hmmm....WOW, that's aweosome. The original is one of the few great PS2 games (that haven't been out for a while) that i still have yet to play. All i can say is: where and how do i support this comming to the US? Seriously if anybody knows, please PM me.

    Whoa! I have the original and I havent even finished it yet because I dont spend much time at home...Give me a Portable Disgaia with a save anywhere feature and extra content and I am ALL OVER IT!!!

    btw, NIS, where is it that we need to sign up for you guys to bring it Stateside?

    Do we need to beat someone up at NIS to show how much we want it? Dood! Just release it! Its gonna sell like crazy!

    The original Disgaea was released by Atlus, not NIS America and I think they still have some control on distribution for the PS2. As for the question on a US localization, that lies on whether or not Sony Computer Entertainment of America will licence it for release in the states.
